I need to take new pics and update my stats, as well as get new Vantage scores. I suppose I should get 3dMark '06 and run it once now that I have these SLI'd and slightly OC'd, huh?

looks good mate........

but i would seriously consider upgrading your GFX card at the same time, the 790i will be wasted with an 8400 :(

In regards to OCing you may want to take a look at This when its all up & running.

I think that is a great motherboard, but unless you have two or more graphics cards and DDR3 memory then it's probably not for you, you might want to try the Evga 750i SLI FTW.

That's the one I just got and it's great for overclocking had my E8500 @ 4.5Ghz plus it takes DDR2 Memory and still has two PCIE x16 2.0 slots:)

Just in case you aren't aware, if you change motherboards you will need to reinstall windows and make sure when you do that you only have 2GB of ram installed otherwise you might have problems installing Vista.

chances are i am gonna buy all brandnew hardware anyway and just sell this pc, buy the same q6600 processor again tho... i can understand going for the evga but the appeal of the xfx is more i think...

can i ask. what is the reason for using only 2GB when installing vista.. i was planning on getting 4GB... do i use 2gb and then after installation of vista, add the other 2GB, the board can support upto 8GB.

also, you mentioned two or more GPU's.. can this not just be run with one or will certain features not function correctly

thanks mate

You can run with one card and that's all I have at the moment but I got this board so I can buy a second one for SLI and thats what you are really paying for with this board or any Nvidia SLI board.

Either way it's still a great board. As far as the 2Gb's of RAM goes, once you have installed Vista put in the other 2Gb's and your good to go.

If you live in the U.S. Evga have a step up program that runs for the first 90 days, so if you are not happy you can exchange it for the difference on a new board and I think you also get lifetime Warranty on some products....Lucky Bstards:(

Sorry just noticed you are from the U.K...Oh well

Yes you should update to the latest bios which you can download from the manufacturer's website free of charge, the update are usually fixes for incompatibility issues and improved performance.

Hope you have all the answers you were looking for.

Hello to all :)

This is my first post here, and I would like to share my overclock settings

My current settings are:
C2D E8200 2.66GHz running @ 3.73GHz at ~1.385v
4x 1GB Kingston HyperX DDR2 1066MHz @ 1117MHz
ASUS P5E Motherboard
Scythe Shuriken CPU cooler

My idle temp of processor is 46C, full load temp gets around 65-66C
Entire system idle temp oscilates around 34C, thanks to 2x92mm NoiseBlocker Fans (front running at 1000rpm, back runs at full speed 1700rpm), 1x80mm NoiseBlocker Fan above the processor (running at 1200rpm)
and 1x100mm Scythe Fan (that was taken off the Shuriken cooler, running at 1000rpm) above my GPU :)
When fully stresses entire system temps goes to ~40-42C (room temp is 22C), so I think that's not too bad :) Noise getting out of the system is not too loud, gets around 40db when gaming ;)

In a short while I'm going to switch to a bigger cooler, Scythe Andy Samurai Master, so my CPU temp should get a little lower :)

When I get back from work I'll post some benchmark results of my system :)

What do you think of my current setup ? ;)

Nicely done sir. Looks pretty good. thats a great OC for the e8200. well done. temps are just about at the Max comfort zone for me. I'd be worried.

you really should get a better cooler, personally the BEST hands down is the Thermalright Ultimate 120 Extreme.. the extreme version is the newer one with 6 heatpipes.. they also have a black edition thats 20 more.. paste of money. get the extreme.. called the TRUE. thats the best. comes with no fans. but you can add some and it's the best cooler out. Next to contend with or beat it is the OCZ Vendetta 2, and the Xigmatek s-1283, then the Tuniq. I'd recommend any of those 4. the OVZ Vendetta actually at stock beats the TRUE, but once you put a fan of your choice, the TRUE is better. plus the open heatpipes of OCZ, and Xig claim to be good, but in high heat, high overclock settings the TRUE also excels. So I'd recommend it. If you can't afford it, the Xig is $39.99, cheaper than the True, also the OCZ Vendetta is 49.99 on Newegg.com and usually has a rebate.

these are your choices. you can't go wrong with either 4. but I personally would not get anything different.. and the true could keep that chip under 38c idle and around 55c load or so is my guess.

Welcome to the Forums, glad to have you. and your welcome to post some benchies all you want.

enjoy ur time here!

Thanks :)

Yeah, I know it's kind on the max setting. For this model Intel states that it can bare 72C per core, I never reached this temperature. I know my vCore is a little higher than Intel states, but I suppose it shouldn't kill the CPU ;) I replaced the fan on Shuriken cooler with a custom 92mm fan that blows more air, and is quieter then original. In my case there is no room for such big coolers like you propose, that's why I chose Samurai Master Cooler. It should fit in perfectly :) I will also change the fan on it to a 120mm better one, which will blow more air :) But I think I've reached OC limit on my CPU because when I try to go further, to 3.85GHz, he needs much more vCore to boot to OS only, more than 1.42V, and it's not stable on that setting at this vCore, so I stay just where I'm right now, I'm satisfied with this result, because it's perfectly stable on this settings (ran a whole night stress prime orthos check) :)
