I used a moderate amount of paste this time, should definitely be enough though (Approx 1/3 teaspoon - 1/2 teaspoon). Here are some pics of my case, sorry about the flash reflection, took the pics pretty quick. And yes, before you ask, that is the best POSSIBLE cable management that you can get done on this case... It's a mess and I really want to get a case that can eliminate all this cable crap.

1x 80mm exhaust fan on the window.
1x 120mm intake fan on the TRUE.
1x exhaust fan on the rear of the case.
1x exhaust fan on the bottom of the PSU.

Hmm.. that should for sure be enough fans to help with that. Try this though. Actually unplug the sidepanel fan. As it ruins the airflow of in and out. front to back bottom to top. the sidepanel fan actually gets the hot air swirling. When I unpluged mine. I got about 3-4c less in temps no lie. lol. but might not work the same for everyone.

Also I could have swore I said how much to use.. but a teaspoon is completely WAY TO MUCH artic Silver 5.

The actual website for Artic Silver 5 Thermal Paste recommend you add TINY drop about the size of a "Uncooked Grain of Rice" of Paste. and that is it. Less is more in this case. as more paste will actually trap the heat in.. Make sense. I know it's a pain to remount the thing. but I'm thinkin if you cleaned it all off again. and put a tiny little line. the size of a peice of rice, Don't spread it or anything. but put the True on top. and bolt it down. and you'd probably have better temps. Also those TRUE's don't get very tight. you could try adding a few bolts above the metal on the screws so it gets tighter. but be careful not to overtighten.

Ya use much less paste. put it right in the middle

Yea, I don't think that's going to happen for awhile, I have to remove my motherboard tray and then remove the motherboard from the motherboard tray to remount the TRUE. I'm okay with the current temps so I don't see another reason to dismantle my entire case... :p

I may not be getting that 8GB RAM/Vista x64 upgrade soon either, I've got some other stuff that I may need to buy first...

I see how you'd need to take the tray and board out. as you need to in order to screw it down. but why take it off the trey also.??

well in the future if you ever do.. Don't add very much thermal Paste. all you need is a TINY little dot. like the size of a grain of rice. and thats it. don't spread it. just leave the dot. and put the cooler on. tightening it down will spread it where it needs to go..

I'd do it personally. as less heat is worth the effort. but whatever you wanna do. Enjoy that system. and maybe do it next time you upgrade something then. but your temps should for sure get lower.

morning lads!!........well over here it is :D

i just ordered my new ram ....2x 4gb OCZ gold = 8gb

in regards to OCing i hear 8gb is far harder to move past stock..?? has anyone else heard this.?

i don't need them to go that far probably 900 - 930mhz to be able to head for 4ghz...
does anyone have any experience with these sticks in a 4gb package ...or even 2gb
& how do they clock in general...

i have only ever bought GSKILL ......
thx

You don't HAVE to overclock your memory to overclock your CPU, most BIOS settings will let you adjust the FSB without changing the speed of the RAM. Overclocking your RAM will just improve overall system performance when your CPU is overclocked as well. Plus, with 8GB of RAM you shouldn't have to overclock your RAM speeds that much for better results, unless you want your SuperPI to be 0.02 seconds faster.

The TRUE has a bracket that the screws screw into and it sits on the backside of the motherboard to provide additional support. Due to this you have to remove the board from they tray in case the plate moves around while you're re-seating the HSF.

:sarc:.... on intel rigs it is impossible to run the ram slower than the FSB ......you can only use the dividers to go faster..

so my FSB is currently 440mhz x8 (which is the default/highest multi) about 3.4ghz
my ram is DDR2 800 which, while running 1-1 ratio (which is the lowest) will default @ 880mhz...

this is why i need them to do at least 900-930mhz b/c the RAM speed increases as the FSB goes up

You are correct, I had a P5K SE and had the same problem and @ 400mhz or higher the memory would have to be at a 1:1 or higher and that was another reason I upgraded my motherboard to SLI and now I can set it to whatever I like:).

I've had my "FSB - Memory Clock Mode" set to "Unlinked" before, and I set my RAM at it's default clocks but the FSB was still set at 1334. I was able to attain the 3.00GHz overclock that I'm running now, but my RAM was runnnig at the default clocks...

400 FSB? If that's in MHz then you're only running 1.6GHz, if it's your actual FSB then you're using a x36 multiplier? Something about that doesn't add up...

I think he means the BUS speed is 400Mhz and the FSB would be at 1600Mhz and if he has a 9x multiplier that would give him 3.6Ghz.

I'm not sure about this but doesn't the Q6600 only have a 8x multi?

yes it's a deffo set to 9x 400 (Quad pumped it says in my bios) multiplier when under load (drops to 6x when idle and speedstep/eist kicks in on CPUZ), also worth mentioning I didn't disable CE1 or EIST, nor did I adjust any voltages from default/stock values and they are same as when running at the native 9x266 for my CPU.

My bios doesnt have a multiplier adjust option or memory ratio, only FSB 266/333/400 and the rams only has default ram speed choices of 533/667/or 800 and so currently it's my 6400 ram underclocked at 533 ramped back up to 800mhz, giving me the 3.6ghz cpu and 800mhz ram, which is a bit of a shame as i'd rather have the ration option to leave ram on defaults...still for a fairly old budget mobo I think it's doing well.

btw the bios for my msi965 platinum is 1.8 if that helps

Yes your doing pretty well for that old Mobo.. and for 25c with a zalman is impressive. whats the room temps?

and yes 400x9 is 3.6 Ghz with a 9x Multi. Thats correct. 400 is his FSB. not his Mhz. lol

Ambient room temp is around 21C constant, I think the huge 250mm sidepanel fan is the biggest help there.
