Thanks guys I wont be staying that high, it was only to see how far I could push it and the vcore was 1.52v after vdroop, gone back to 3.8Ghz for now.:)

Xguntherc do you have anything good that monitors all your chipset temps, I tried Everest and its is saying that mobo temp is at 119c at stock speed and volts and it was 121c at 4.5Ghz, seems very high.

Mobo at 121c.. lol. thats not right.. it would start melting. I think my Motherboard is around 35c. I think Speedfan monitors all that. but I don't worry about my motherboard. I have enough fans in my case that it's ok. Main worries are CPU and GFX card. and I watch both of those.

(Temps after running Prime95 for 10 minutes)

I haven't even bothered to OC my graphics card because none of the games I play a lot require it. Crysis is the only game that can push the 8800 GTX to it's limits that I've played, and since the game is crappy and the multiplayer isn't worth it I see no reason to OC my graphics card at this time.

Not bad freelancer.. question. is SpeedStep turned off.. does your CPU cycle down. or always stay at your speed of 3.0 GHz. also according to core temp your VID is 1.2000. thats one of the BEST I've seen for a Q6600. So either you have C1E or Speedstep enabled and it's messing up what the read is. or you really have a really good VID. and if thats it. 1.2000. you could get that thing to 3.6 GHz easily. although your temps should be better than that with a True at only 3.0 Ghz. what Thermal paste did you use. and have you ever tryed to reseat it. what are your idle temps? you should be able to clock it much higher. but 3.0 GHz is enough for the most part.

I'm using the paste that came with my Thermalright Ultra-120 at the moment. I'll check if SpeedStep or C1E are enabled on my Striker Extreme when I start up tomorrow, but I've never turned them on and I doubt they're on by default. I've never reseated my CPU, although I originally had an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz in here... When I got this processor I just pulled the other one and replaced it with this one.

Here are my idle temps:
Idle_Temps_Sept-29-08.jpg

All I've done to OC this processor is change the FSB and use the "Auto" setting for the RAM clocks (they're about 1000MHz instead of the default 800MHz).

EDIT: Checked the SpeedStep and C1E settings for you xguntherc and BOTH are set to "Disabled" like I assumed. I also disabled all of my Spread Spectrum options while I was checking, figured I didn't need em on and if it's limiting something, then it's limiting the power of my PC!

EDIT EDIT: I overclocked my GPU a little bit today (clocked it up to BFG 8800 GTX OC clocks) and gained about 200 points on 3DMark...

Oh ok, then yes your VID is 1.200. thats one of the BESt I've seen on a Q6600. and also is your voltage set to Auto.. cuz it shouldn't be. also at 3.0 Ghz idle temps should be under 40c man.. yours are WAY to high to be having a true. you very much need to try and reseat that thing.

with a true, and a fan on it. at 3.0 Ghz your temps should be around 35c or lower. mine were around 35c at 3.5 Ghz with my Q6700.. your temps are to high.

you should get better Thermal Paste. I'd recommend getting Artic silver 5. or if a Circuit city or best buy, or office depot is near your house there is something called Antec Silver 5. it's the same stuff.. and one of the best things you can use. Also how much did you apply. those temps are way to high man.. really.

Do me a favor. take a screeny of CPU-Z's main screen with that 3.0 Ghz OC and post it please.

Here's my CPU-Z main screen:
CPU-Z_3.0GHz_Sept-30-08.jpg

I see that the Core Voltage went up to 1.216V from 1.200, I think this is because all of my power options are set to Auto. What do you recommend I change the VCore to?

I do think that I used a bit to much Thermal paste when I installed this new cooler, but I just shrugged it off. At the moment I'm fine with the temps as long as they stay below 60c all the time. I've got a tube of Arctic Silver around but I just used the stuff that came with the cooler because I couldn't find it.

I'll re-seat the processor and HSF when I reformat to Vista x64 and install my 8GB of RAM that I'll be getting soon.

EDIT: Set the VCore at 1.200 and I'm getting this Core Voltage now:

well the vcore was 1.200 cuz thats your VId.. thats the voltage pre digitally signed to you CPU. the VID is the voltage your CPU needs to run on it's stock speeds of 2.44 Ghz. so it needs 1.200 to run at 2.44 Ghz.. so if someone has your same CPU of Q6600 with a VID of 1.2750.. and many do, or higher.. they need 1.2750volts to run at stock speed of 2.44 Ghz.. so you have a huge advantage in overclocking as they will max out on safe voltage way before you will.. you'll need watercooling before that will happen. you're chips probably a 3.7 Ghz chip or more.. but that would be pretty warm.

You probably should have not went down to 1.200 as thats what it needed at 2.44 Ghz.. at your overclock you might be fine at stock voltage.. but I'm not sure. you should run Prime95 or a stability test to see if it's still stable with the voltage decrease. it very well might still be stable. but it also might fail. if I was you I'd for sure run Prime.. small FFT's and see how it goes.. you have Prime95 right? or something to check stability of overclock. if you fail prime. then raise the vcore.. I'd probably set it to 1.2100 and see.

If your still stable with stock voltage then good for you. as lower voltage means lower temps. but you really really should re-seat that cooler. your temps should be aorund 35c or less at that speed. lol. even more so cuz you have the TRUE.

let me know how the stability test goes.

Good luck.

really.. well then your set. thats way cool man. good for you..

You should try something like 3.2 or 3.4 I'm willing to bet you could do 3.4 Ghz with no major problems with that great cpu.. thats one of the best I've seen. you could sell it for a decently high load of cash for the fact of the great VId.. like over $200.. and they are less new. lol all the new ones these days VID's are 1.35 and they need that many volts just to run default speed. so you see why your's is so good.?

anyways let me know what you decide to do. and seriously you need to re-seat that cooler and use the AS5. cuz your temps are scary. Make me uncomfortable and it's not even my system. lol

Yea, I'll re-seat my cooler and use some Arctic Silver paste when I install my 8GB of RAM and tidy up my cables.

Meh, went ahead and reseated the cooler and found that I definitely used to much paste last time, it all got squished off the CPU and down into the cracks around the CPU socket. Was a good lesson on cleaning up a messy CPU job at least...

Anyways I used Arctic Silver 5 and I'm running a LITTLE cooler now when at idle, still not near what you stated though:

hm.. you have a great CPU, with a low VID. and one of the better CPU coolers out there. your temps at idle should be for SURE under 40c.

What type of cooling does your actual case have. can I see a picture of it. How many fans does it have. maybe you have poor airflow in the case? I don't know. thats still not right. but either way it's a little better.

How much paste did you use this much.?
Since your cooler is not doing the trick for you. Would you be interested in selling me your TRUE.. lol
