Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update
Sassofalco,
In the Control Panel (Classic view), do you have a Realtek HD Audio Manager icon?
Some Realtek audio codec models do not have a Realtek HD Audio Manager or traybar icon, but I thought that your ALC883 model did.
Hi sassofalco,
If you are using the default control panel, this icon can be found by clicking on 'Additional Options'.
Newsflash - 'Realtek HD Audio Manager Returns from "Walkabout"
- 'Reports for Duty, a Changed Man!'
Gidday Shawn and Dwarf,
Jeez Mates. You Blokes don't miss a beat, do yer?
I've found it! I've found it!
And to tell you the truth, it was probably there all along, lurking under it's new nomenclature. Still, I've had some good practice at uninstalling and installing the Update, and learned some valuable new lessons along the way.
What I looked for after Installation.
Whenever I opened Control Panel [Classic View] to check for the presence of the
'Realtek HD Audio Manager' Icon after each Installation, that's the description or name that I was looking for amongst the plethora of Icons on the page. So, naturally enough when the page displayed, I was quickly scrolling down to look in the
"R's" Section.
Additionally, a 'mouse-over' of the Icon in my Taskbar Notification Area showed that it should be there in the Control Panel [Classic View], by displaying 'Realtek HD Audio Manager' in the icon pop-up panel.
How HD Manager was re-discovered.
Both of your latest posts ultimately led me to the re-discovery of the HD Audio Manager.
Yours Shawn, had me looking around all areas again [Device Manager, Control Panel etc.], and
yours Dwarf, took my attention to the
"A's" Section [for an 'Addition Options'(?) Icon
....Note; Sorry Dwarf, I didn't fully understand what you were getting at, but continued searching anyway.....and am I glad that I did!],
and there it is!
HD Manager a changed Name!
I found the HD Audio Manager on the very top left-hand side of the Control Panel [Classic View] display page. Through the installation process, the Icon name has undergone a metamorphosis and become
"Acer HD Audio Manager", even though it has retained the 'Realtek' Flag name in the Taskbar Notification Area. 'Eureka!!'
Additionally, if I open the program from either location [Control Panel or Notification Area] the Audio Setup Display Page is now headed as -
"Acer HD Audio Manager", and the name graphics in the bottom-left corner are now showing as - "acer"
All other reference to 'Realtek' [Name and Logo] has been 'wiped' from the page.
To summarise.
So there we have it. It would appear that in some situations, this Driver on update and installation, can assume or adopt the name of the Notebook or PC Manufacturer, as its prime nomenclature [or name] for display as the Icon in the Control Panel [Classic View], and also on the HD Audio Manager Set-up page.
It could also be that this is just a 'quirk' on Acer units. Still, yet another thread issue for consideration in trouble-shooting this subject's download and installation processes.
Suggestion.
Shawn, may I [as I lie prostrate...] suggest that you add an advisory note to your Update Post, outlining the potential for the HD Audio Manager to assume or adopt the User's Systems(?) Manufacturers name, on installation, in-lieu of the 'Realtek' Flag name.[I hope that makes sense to you].
Question.
Because not all of us are Audio Engineers, and a
'select few' far, far from it........ [On/Off Button? Where!??]..., is there a
'Help' section for the
"Acer [Realtek] HD Audio Manager" Setup?
Reputations.
Because I have already given at the Office, and am denied giving further, I would like to thank-you both sincerely for the patience, advice and dedication that you have shown and given over the past few days, in ultimately leading to a successful conclusion with this issue. Without your assistance, I'd be up Crocodile Creek [they reside here!], without a paddle...or a canoe.
Cheers.
Sassofalco.
