Hi BJ,

This file is a required startup program for the HD Audio Control Panel. Right click on the C:\Windows\RAVCpl.exe file and click on Properties and the Compatibility tab. Check to make sure that the Run this program as an administrator box is uncheked.

If it is then see if reinstalling these audio drivers again (twice) can help.

Fast reply, thanks !
I did already uninstall and reinstall, and restart twice (read previous posts where that is req'd to do correct install ) but on checking compatability, the "run as adm" box is greyed out so I cannot ck mark it. How do I correct that ?
Forgot to add that it is unchecked even tho greyed out.

UPDATE: must be a retarded pc as a third restart finally got it right. Thank you.

Once again research on the Acer.com.au site for any related or updated Realtek Driver information, has proved as useful as a Red-Belly Black Snake in yer pocket, Mate!

Additionally, an online search via Device Manager for updates, has Windows once again determining that the most up-to-date Driver is already installed.

Questions arising from the post [at best guess....Dumb ones];

Q1. After a successful download, does the Device Manager Realtek HD Properties section then recognise that Ver 6.0.1.5717 is installed, and also amend the install date? [Current driver details show Realtek Ver. 6.0.1.5334, installed 01/12/2006 (Au Calendar), with the Audio Codec as ALC883]

Q2. At the Realtek HD download site for Windows;

I am faced with choosing to download from three sites listed under the Download heading as; Site 1, Site 2 and Site3. What is meant by this choice of sites and how do I determine the correct choice?

Q3. [The really dumb one] Will the downloaded updated Driver automatically install to its true and correct location, and display all details in Device Manager, Control Panel etc.

Sorry about these nuisance questions, but my learning curve has the properties of a reverse oblique cliff-face.

Re Q1 goto the realtek contol panel and goto about and that will show the version.
Re Q2 those are the different sites that realtek uses I usually download from site 1
Re Q3 you have to double click on the setup and it will install in the correct place.

The audio codec is the model number for your Realtek HD audio device and will never change. For this new 6.01.5717 version, I have the date as 10/13/2008. This is a bit misleading though. 10/13 is the date they released it internally at Realtek, but the 10/16 date is the day it was released to the public. Be sure to install the new driver twice with a restart after each install. Once to uninstall the old driver, and twice to install the new one.

You have two types of installation files to download. One is a .exe file, and the other a ZIP file. They both install the same driver, but just by a different way. The 3 download sites all download the exact same file for each type. Realtek just provides you with 3 different download location sites to download from incase one site is to busy or slow, then you can try another site to see if it has a faster download speed.

Yep, it will install everything automatically after you approve the installation. After you install the driver twice, it should have the current version and details listed in Device Manager.

I've downloaded and completed the first install, and the restart has completed in a breeze.

It's fossilised brain Dummy again. Q; Do I return to the Realtek Download Website, and repeat the entire process, or is there a shortcut for the second install?

The cliff is on a point of collapse!

Hi sassofalco,

When you downloaded the file from Realtek, did you run it from the download dialogue or did you choose the 'Save' option and run it from that? It is always advisable to download files and save them to your PC prior to running them - this is especially true with drivers and certainly with Realtek, given the notoriously slow download speeds of their servers. If you haven't got the file saved on your PC you will need to download it again. Save it before running the installation program.

So I download again, but this time Save to my Desktop, and if I read you right, double click to install from there. Q; Does the double click show a drop-down menu where 'Run, or Install', is but a click away? Please advise.

Mission accomplished...Thank you one and all.

Device Manager shows all the appropriate detail, as predicted. And I have today learned a most valuable lesson in Download File management and time saving through saving to the Desktop.

Only concern now is that the Realtek Icon has not installed in Control Panel. Will go looking in other 40 odd pages of this thread for instances of similar issue.

Try restarting your computer again also does the icon show in the taskbar notification area.

Yep! Realtek HD Audio Manager Icon looks mighty good in the taskbar notification area, so about to do another Restart. Will get back



I'm back......but the danged Realtek Manager Icon in Control Panel Classic View..ain't!

I went through the whole Install/Restart, Install/Restart procedure again, with the same outcome. I'm confused. Checked out in Device Manager, and all systems info and settings, all present and correct.

This is so frustrating I could thrash a Platoon of Sepoys!

In the Control Panel (Classic view), do you have a Realtek HD Audio Manager icon?

Some Realtek audio codec models do not have a Realtek HD Audio Manager or traybar icon, but I thought that your ALC883 model did.
