Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hi there brink, I've had a problem for some time now that I really would love to get rid of;)

I use Acer Aspire (laptop) with Realtek sound. For some time, the audio has been completely out of bounds, and not trustworthy for a second. After downloading the patches here for some months, it got better, but my computer still can't be taken out to gigs etc, because it can flip anytime.

The problem usually hits in when i use music-based softwares, like Reason and Traktor. Suddenly the left or right side (on computer-speakers or in headphones) becomes silent, and it's a matter of seconds til the sound is completely gone. It may happen when listening to music as well. Can add that the computer starts "jumping" a little when it happens. I restart the program and everything works fine again for 20 seconds - 15 minutes.

I'm about to go Mac, but will give Vista some more weeks:) Please help! And btw, what is the AC'97 for? Doesn't seem like it wants to install on my computer.

Best regards

EDIT:
Driver Version In Device Manager: 6.0.1.5668
-----In my Device Manager it says 5672?

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hello Mongler, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You are correct. It should be 5672 and not 5668. I put the version number for the HDMI model instead by error. :o

AC'97 is another model of sound card/chip. It is not the same as the HD Audio models, and it should not be installed with them. Doing so could cause problems with the audio.

You might also check with music programs that you are using to make sure that they are completely compatible with Vista and/or that you have the latest version or patches of them installed.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I've done lots of reading here as I too am having problems with Realtek HD Audio. I have the Realtek link in control panel, but it only has the speakers shown...no inputs at all for mic or line, or mixer, and this is preventing me from recording streaming audio, as the audio recorder I use, either "audacity" or "audio recorder for free" shows no input devices connected, and accordingly, cannot do any recording.
I recently did a dual boot setup to get some hdwe devices working again in XP as Vista cant run them properly, and I did have audio inputs in vista before the dual boot was installed. The XP drive has Realtek also, and it works perfectly, and has the mic. line in and mixer inputs available.
In device mgr, the audio tab shows Realtek V6.0.1.5672 dated 7-24-08.
Short of forgetting about Vista entirely and using XP, is there any way to get back the audio inputs ?
Thx, and am a big fan of this forum.

*** Please disregard my post re the realtek sound inputs...found em under the plain Sounds tab in control panel, and all is well.

Hi Shawn
Thank you for the update information and it certainly improved my WMP performance. My previous driver version was 6.0.1.5334 dated 2006 and my Acer laptop's volume level was somewhat sub-standard but now I am more than happy with the out put. Thanks again.:)

Hi Avi Nanrey,

Check in the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the Control Panel (Classic View) to make sure that you have 5.1 Speaker selected in the Speaker Configuration drop down box (in red below) with the speakers checked below.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks mkjgod, I'll look into that when I get home. It must be msconfig as I don't use CCleaner for anything other than "cleaning" and I don't use the other programs/utilities you list.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Avi Nanrey,

You can check on the first page of this thread to see if you are using the latest 2.00 driver version.

You may also have a older Realtek Audio device model that just doesn't support any other speaker options to choose from. What is your model (Audio Codec) number? Perhaps someone with the same model number can confirm this or not for you. You can click on the I button in the bottom right corner of the Realtek HD Audio Manager window to see.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

I do not see any advantage with AC'97. It is pretty much an outdated chip that has not had a new driver version released for it in quite some time now.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hi Brink.

I have a similar problem, but not sure what to do.

I recently bought a new computer - with GigaByte ep45-ds3p mobo with vista 64 ultimate.

My problem is all my 5.1 speakers are muffled and dont really play any sounds well, especially the woofer, which is near silent. Everything else about the computer is fine, and I really dont want to do a clean install of windows, if possible.

I've got vista 64 ultimate, with the realtek HD audio manager, audio driver version 6.0.1.5672 (latest from realtek) codec - ALC 889A. Recently installed with 2 reboots, older realtek stuff was deleted. I checked the device manager, it's up to date.

I have standard logitech 5.1 speakers, but I can only get sound from the back 2 speakers if I use 7.1 speaker configuration. But even then it's still muffled.

I dont have an option on my realtek HD Audio manager that says 'speaker fill' so Im not sure if that would fix it or not. I do have 'optional speakers' or 'full range speakers' but no 'speaker fill' option. No combination of options ticked or unticked that I can see seem to get the 5.1 speakers to work normally.

Do I need to try older realtek drivers? Or do I need to wait for Realtek or gigabyte to release a driver update that works for me?

Would installing a separate sound card work?

Thanks for any help.
