Thanks for the tip on the new drivers.
Just thought I check in. I have an HP dv9700 laptop with Realtek HD Audio.
The new drivers did NOT solve the problem of being able to monitor the mic.
Oh Well maybe next time.

I just followed these instructions:

"Start Audacity and go into Edit - Preferences - Audio I/O - and enable Software Playthrough.
Make sure your Xbox or whatever is pluged into the MIC jack
Hit the record button in Audacity you should now hear your device thru your speakers,
Now just hit Pause in Audacity and it will stop recording (using disk space) but you will continue to hear your device."

and Actually heard myself thru the mic. The sound is about a quarter of a second late so it's not possible to play along with anything but it's nice to see that it does work. Now I've got my hopes up.

I just updated my nForce drivers 9.64, flashed my mobo's BIOS to PO6, and now audio drivers...wow:P

Hi Njnitehawk,

You should have a date of 7/3/2008 with the driver version as 6.0.1.5657 for the latest 1.98 Realtek HD driver version. If not, then you will just need to install it.

The 3D SoundBack Beta release is only for people that play old legacy games that were way before Vista to help improve audio for those games.

I look for it to probably be included in the next Realtek HD driver version when it is released sometime soon. ;)
