Thanks!

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Ibrahim,

I would not worry about it to much as Shao128 said. There really is not much there anyway. It's mostly for a front panel settings. This is what I get when I click on my folder.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hello All,

I am here out of desperation!

I think I am afflicted by the infamous mic level problem, but I was hoping someone could help me. I have read every post in this thread (and elsewhere) but none seem to fix my issue.

Specs:

Vista 32 utlimate SP1
Asus M51sn notebook with realtek HD audio
I have installed the latest realtek HD 1.95 drivers twice
I have a headphone pluged into the front 3.5 mm socket and a mic with on/off switch also plugged in.

The realtek drivers detect these.

To confirm. Headphones work fine. Checking Mic levels via vista sound levels works fine and records (with vista sound recorder) fine. I have no other mics installed.

What I want to do:

I am an anaesthetist studying the effect of VR on paediatric pain. The child is totally isolated from the world with a head mounted display + headphones and they play a game.

Now I want to be able to turn the mic on and talk to them live through the headphones. Now whilst there is some tiny weeny sound which does come through, it is of such a low level as to be virtually undetectable. I have unmuted the mic in the drivers, turned mic boost to + 30db, maxed the recording volume, ensured the speaker output levels had mic volumed maxed in the vista sound mixer, everything I can think of and yet I just can't get a live mic to happen.

Clearly because it records and meters fine there is nothing wrong with the mic.

Can anyone help?

Is there a "echo" utility I need to pipe a live mic to the headphones/speakers?

Getting really desperate as it is an essential part of my research.

Regards

John.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Ah. OK, thanks. I actually have those options, they are just under Device advanced settings. That is a relief. And to the poster referring to COD4: yes, you're right! 1.95 works perfectly. Oddly, it seems to be only broken under 1.94.

@john

Hi! Open up Realtek HD Audio Manager, go to the Microphone tab, and you should see something similar to this:

Note that there are two "volume" bars, so to speak. The first one, recording volume, is the amplitude or loudness of your voice, in this example. The second one, however, is what you are looking for: playback volume. This is the volume of this so-called "echo" you are talking about. Turn this all the way to the right; in my system, that plays my voice from the microphone through the speakers, in your case headphones, and it is "live".

Or have you done this and it still doesn't work?

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Thanks Ibrahim,

Still no worky

I have the 6.0.1.5636 drivers which are the latest 1.95 but my
Realtek control panel looks subtley different to yours. It dosen't have the acoustic echo cancellation option nor does it have the device advanced settings option (top right). It is just very bare bones as I am running it on a notebook I think.

Anyway all the sliders (both playback and recording are maxed to the right, all mic boosts are maxed) nothing is muted, this is for both the realtek manager and the vista sound manager.

Does anyone know of a very light weight echo utility which routes the mic to the speaker/headpones - live? I don't need a fully blown recording system as I don't want the record buffers to get saved, just a little program to basically listen to the mic (buffer if it needs it) then pipe it to the speaker/headphones. If it does buffer it needs to flush them as I might be running for a while and don't want all the memory to be eaten up whilst the child is under VR. I think this will be the *only* way I will get what I need which is really frustrating!

The Asus realtek driver which came with the notebook is dated mid 2007 and had no extra functionality compared with the latest driver I downloaded from realtek direct.

Regards

John

EDIT: Or alternatively is there any way to trick the driver into installing the extra functionality that all you guys seem to have?

Wait - laptop - do you have any sort of echo/ noise cancellation in the drivers that you can disable?

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

The only noise cancellation I have found is for the mic in the realtek drivers and having it on or off makes no difference. Sadly.

Argh, so it didn't work? That is annoying. :( Headphones work properly, right? Just want to make sure.

I may have found the solution:

Right-click the Realtek Audio HD Audio Manager icon in the taskbar and click Audio Devices. Go to the playback tab and double-click your speakers. Go to the Levels tab. Unmute everything and turn everything all the way up.

Good luck!

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hi!

Please somebody help me with my problem.

I cant get my side speakers to work on my new 5.1 system. I have tried everything. I have the newest drivers, checked all the cables and settings ten times etc etc.

The place where I could tick the "side speakers" option in the realtek audio manager panel is just GREY. I just cant choose it.

The only way i get something out of those side speakers is when i choose 7.1 option. then it uses them as second pair of rear speakers. so the speakers itself work..

any ideas???

Argh! Hmm...Very odd problem here. Have you tried to see if it plays through the speakers, instead of the headphones?

It might be easier to just find a program.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hello friends,
I just installed the new Realtek HD Audio driver 1.96 on my HP laptop with Vista Home Premium 64 and now I have no Audio Manager icon in the taskbar or in the control panel. Is this correct? I'm sorry if this was already discussed, I only read the first 5 pages of this thread.
The reason I'm updating the audio drivers is that I cannot monitor my mic. The mic works fine but I cannot hear it. If anyone happens to know why I would LOVE to know.
This is my second Vista machine and neither one could monitor the mic. The audio card maker does not seem to matter.
Thank you
Jerry

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hi Jerry,

Did you install the driver a second time yet?

The first install and restart will uninstall the old driver version, and the second install and restart installs the new version.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hi Shawn,
Thanks for the reply. I installed the driver a second time and I have the icons but still no ability to monitor the mic.
There are others with this same problem. I have read several solutions, modifying the registry, etc. but none work for me. I bought a USB SB Live, sounds great but no way to monitor the mic in Vista.
I guess I'll keep searching the net and hopefully someone will figure it out.
Thanks again
Jerry

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Jerry,

Can you monitor the mic this way?

1. Right click on the desktop and click Personalize.
2. Click on Sounds.
3. Click on the Recording tab.
4. Right click on Microphone and click Properties.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

On the recording tab, mic properties, levels, the mic input control, Boost and mute work fine. On the Playback tab, speakers, properties, levels, there are only Realtek HD Audio output, mute, balance and PC Beep. There should be a control here for the mic output I would think.
Thanks
