Hi Brink,

I don't want individual sound events to play through different channels, I want to make be able to listen to music through my headphone but keep the soundevents on the main speakers.
The "old" realtek drivers (the ones where you had a mixer in the control panel) could do just that. Look at the manual: http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl...audio_driver_usermanualver1-00_0418-05[1].pdf

But this option is gone in the new drivers.

That would be nice if they included that in the newer drivers, but I have not seen the mixer feature for quite a while now.

I would drop RealTek a email at their Contact Us address and ask if they could add that feature back. If enough people ask about it, they might do it.

Just for the record, SoftPedia also has them available for download - and if you want ht .ZIP version, it is mirrored on a US server that is about 10 times faster (if not more) than the FTP sites.

I have a general question on the Realtek HD drivers: I finally read the disclaimer I clicked on their site to download the drivers. It suggests going to your MB manufacturer and down load the new drivers there so they would be more compatible with your MoBo. I have an EVGA and have always used the ones from Realtek with no problems. As of last night EVGA did not have the 1.93, they were still offering the 1.92. Does it really make any difference if I get the whql drivers from Realtek or EVGA?

I always got them straight from Realtek. EVGA will just get them from Realtek anyway. I have a Gigabyte board that still shows Gigabyte in the Realtek HD Audio Manager from the drivers from the Realtek website.

Bubba, I have the eVGA 780i mobo, and I use the RealTek drivers as well. No need to worry about it, the RealTek drivers work just as well as the eVGA drivers.

Is anyone using these drivers for Dell Inspirons? I have an Inspiron 1420 and the version numbers are different leading me to believe they have OEM specific modifications that lock you in to using Dell provided drivers... Best Regards.

Hi Brink,

I'm having an install problem with the 1.94 driver release. I'm running Vista XP Ultimate 32-bit, SP1 and had previously been running the 1.80 release.

I uninstalled the 1.84 release, rebooted and began trying to install the new drivers. After several timeouts, I went to safe mode and attempted the install. In safe mode the C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\Installshield directory was created but even when pointing to that directory and trying a driver upgrade, it times out and completes unsuccessfully.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Bob,

Did you download the EXE or ZIP version of the driver? You might try the other one to see if it will install better for you.

Do you have any type of security program running that may be blocking the installation? For example, the COMODO Firewall Defense Plus feature will block mine if I do not set it to training mode first.

I've tried both actually and am currently attempting to backlevel to the 190 release. That one seemed to complete successfully but upon reboot is hanging during detection/installation.

I'm running AVG 8.0.100 antivirus, but haven't seen any difference whether it's disabled or not.

I've got to be at work in about 6 1/2 hrs so I'm going to call it a night. If there's anything else I need to do please post and I'll look at it tomorrow. In reviewing the application log, problems seem related to the hdart.inf and hda.inf files in the Realtek directory.

PS the 190 release (zip archive) timed out too. Could it be an SP1 thing???

Interesting Bob. What is your motherboard brand and model number, and the Realtek model number?

Perhaps using a audio driver from the motherboard's site may work better for now.

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for the head-up about the new drivers. I actually saw the AC'97 ones yesterday as well, and I intend to upgrade to them ASAP. However, the Realtek download sites are notorious for being s...l...o...w... and they would barely tax the transfer rate of a dial-up connection, let alone broadband. Whether the HD drivers suffer from this downloading problem I don't know since I use the AC'97 version, but it would be interesting to find out.


Just look at the 'Transfer rate:'. This is from 'Download Site1'. The other 2 aren't much better. I have sent a message to Realtek about this, but have not yet (at the time of writing this post) received a reply.

LOL Dwarf, that looks about right. I sometimes get in the 120KB/Sec range with the 3rd ZIP download link for the HD driver, but usually about what you are getting.
