Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

I'm laughing WITH you Jules, not AT you. I had the same problem as you. Let me see if I am relating your update experience correctly.

you download the drivers. (I saved mine to desktop). You click on install and it starts the install. It tells you that the program will uninstall the old drivers first, reboot, and then install the new realtek driver. You click the appropriate "ok's" qand your drivers are uninstalled. You click "ok' again and your computer beboots. THEN befoe you can do a damn thing, Vista "finds new hardware and is installing the drivers." Are we on the same page so far? If so follow with me.

If you have NOT saved the driver download to disk, do so. Let it uninstall the old drivers and reboot. AS SOON as it reboots, click on the 1.91 icon on oyur desktop. Ignore the windows device manager install thing. The Vista auto install thing will soon say they have installed the correct drivers, while the realtek installer (which opned when you clicked on, and I'm not kidding do it FAST) will look like it has locked up. Give it some time and eventually it will install the drivers and then ask you if you want to reboot. Of course, say yes. Reboot. If the realtek icon does not come one in your task bar, click start and then control panel and start realtek from there.

NOTE: Click your window audio (the speaker thingie) and configure your speakers and mic. When you finish the driver installation and realtek config, click it again to make sure it is still configured. I am not kidding when I say I tried this 14 times (with the 1.90 drivers) before I got it to work and it only worked after I did what I just wrote. Like you, mine is a new computer build with nothing i can "break" so a hard drive format and re install is always an option lol.

Also, I have a different motherboard, and I did a bios flash update before I did the audio driver update. I lack the knowledge to know what a flash update is, much less if it needs be done, (Shawn can tell you that stuff), but what I did worked. It was a pain in the ass until I figured out how to circumvent the Vista auto install driver thing, but it worked like a charm when I did and on the 1.91 upgrade.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hi Bubba, thanks for taking the time to try to help me sort this problem.

What I do know is that the driver is installing fine. I get the Realtek control panel, the Realtek audio manager, and the system shows that the device is installed and "working". However, when I attempt to use the volume mixer it shows no device installed. One would think that Vista would prompt for an uninstalled device (if that was in fact the case).

BIOS has been updated to the latest.

Something is very odd here, as in the possibility of a service stopped. I haven't stopped any services, or done any tweaks to the install. The only thing I can think of is that I may have installed SP1 prematurely. (within 1 hour of the OS install)

Take a look at this screen shot, see if anything looks out of the ordinary.

By the way, sound works in Ubuntu

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

It's kind of blurry to me so I can't really see or read anything but.............
I don't see any speakers in your pic on the realtek screen (lol or is that what you have been trying to tell me and I wasn't understanding it). It looks like you have a green check mark in the highlighted speakers box thpough. Have you mentioned yet what kind of speakers you are using? I can't tell what you select in the box. I hit quick reply so let me hit enter and I'll take a screenshot of what mine looks like so you can see what i mean about no speakers.

See the difference now?

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hi Thunder,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

In the image posted in Bubba's post abover yours, see if checking all the speaker options to the left under Speaker Configuration helps. If not, then check the Speaker Fill box to see if sound will come out of all of your speakers.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Thunder,

You will need to install the audio driver twice. The 1st time uninstalls all audio drivers, then the 2nd install will install the new driver. A restart after each install is required though.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thunder,

The link on the 1st page is directly from Realtek. It doesn't get better than that. ;)
The driver will include the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the Control Panel (Classic View) when it is installed. In Device Manager, you will see Realtek High Definition Audio under Sound, video and game controllers when expanded.

Hope this helps,

During one of my installs, the program did not start up automatically. Check in C:\Windows, that is where my RavCpl64.exe resides. You may or may not have the "64" attached, as I'm using 64-bit Vista.

You did run the install twice, right?

I said before, read the post above. OK your english isn't good so let me copy/paste the part you seem to be missing. By the way, your English is much better than my French (which I refuse to speak) or Dutch, depending on which part of Belgium you are from, so maybe someone more literate in your language than I am can help out.

"If you have NOT saved the driver download to disk, do so. Let it uninstall the old drivers and reboot. AS SOON as it reboots, click on the 1.91 icon on your desktop. Ignore the windows device manager install thing. The Vista auto install thing will soon say they have installed the correct drivers, while the Realtek installer (which opened when you clicked on, and I'm not kidding do it FAST) will look like it has locked up. Give it some time and eventually it will install the drivers and then ask you if you want to reboot. Of course, say yes. Reboot. If the Realtek icon does not come on in your task bar, click start and then control panel and start Realtek from there."

Quite basically, if you are getting a screen with the keyboard and the mouse you are clicking on the wrong Icon.
The Realtek Audio manager is what I called "the Realtek Icon" which you WILL find in your Control Panel if you followed the procedure I outlined. It is downloaded in the 1.91 upgrade. Remember do the following in EXACT order:

Download 1.91 drivers.
Install.
Reboot.
Install.
Reboot.
Select CONTROL PANEL
Select Realtek Audio Manager.

If you have further problems, I'll do my best to get a friend who speaks you language to translate it for me so you can understand it better.

Drat. I wonder why no realtek? Do you want me to ask one of my buddies to send you a PM in Dutch (or French, you never did specify your native tongue lol) to make sure we have not missed something because of language differences? I know a couple of folks from Belgium here, where I live, and a guy who works in the Canadian Embassy, (he's from French-Canada and as such French is his native language), who would do it for me if you think it would help. Just say the word.

I forgot to check back on this thread Thunder, sorry. I'll see what I can do. My Dutch buddy is out of town right now (he went home to see family lol) but he should be back anyday.

Brink: Darn you. Quit making new drivers lol. I just finished updating my GFX drivers........

EDIT: Seriously though, how do we know when new drivers are released, well without seeing you post it lol? How often should i check the realtek or nVidia sites?

Ok, for the life of me I can't figure out how to make use of the dual stream feature.

I have my speakers plugged in at the rear and my headset in the front. In the control panel I have checked "make front and rear output devices play different steams.."

But now: how do assign a certain program to a certain output? For example, I want my windows sounds to play via the speakers, but media player via the headphone. How do you do that?

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Ok, for the life of me I can't figure out how to make use of the dual stream feature.

I have my speakers plugged in at the rear and my headset in the front. In the control panel I have checked "make front and rear output devices play different steams.."

But now: how do assign a certain program to a certain output? For example, I want my windows sounds to play via the speakers, but media player via the headphone. How do you do that?

Hi LPent,

It would be nice if you could select individual sound events for what you want them to play through, but it does not work that way. You can only select to have it play through both headphones and speakers or not.

Sorry, :(
Shawn
