Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hi guys.. I'm having a problem also with my Realtek audio drivers. I've got absolutely no clue what kind of computer I have, other than It's an HP. I've upgraded it so many times and I've lost all the restore disc's ect. I'm asking for it, I know. :p

Anyways, my main issue is I use google talk to talk to my family and friends alot, and when I have my headset plugged in ( Via Headphone Jack and Mic Jack ) It wont pick up, and when I go to sound settings I click the record tab and Vista freezes, and the only way to fix it, is to use Task manager to end the task. What I dont understand is why I can install all the newer drivers and still have regular sound through my desktop speakers, but the recording tab wont work.

If it's of any further use, I can sync my xbox 360 wireless headset to my computer, and it works fine. :( Any kind of helpful tips would be nice, This is really frustrating.

Chase
Click On Start Accsessories then System tools The System Information
this should bring up the Diagram specifications of you're computer what model sound card memory etc.
you can copy when you open it up and copy that section to just plain text on you're desktop right click in desk top after Click New Then Txt then right click again after you copy just that section in system information then Print it out this way you will always have it.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Ok, seems there are two different types of realtek audio drivers. Apparently Shawn you have "the other one" lol. Or from your point of view, I have "the other one." I have the High definition Audio one as opposed to the AC'97 I guess. I am having a spot of trouble with mine. The speaker sound is OK, don't know about the head phones as i don't use them, BUT.......... when i click advanced settings I don't get the same options as you. All I get is microphone options. Look:

realtek.jpg

I get the same screen no matter which upper left tab I click. That however is not my main issue. When i plug my mic in the front jack it is always hot, even when I am using ventrillo, even though I have a key for it in vent. Also, if I haven't covered it in the pic, you can see there are two slider bars for one mic. What do they do? The bottom on seems to control the mic level since if i get past 10 or so I start getting feedback, but the top one is the one that has the microphone boost on it and it seems to do nothing whether it's all the way up OR down. LOL I get feedback from striking the keys and my mic is on the other side of the desk pointed away from the speakers. I know that the noise suppression and echo cancellation are not selected in the pic, but they are now so that can't be the reason for it picking up my typing. It's not a good mike, hell, it's not even a decent mic lol. It's a 5 or 6 buck plastic POS I got on sale somewhere.

Am I making any sense?

EDIT: Dang I needed another pic with the mic settings.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hi Bubba,

Each Realtek HD audio device will vary slightly according to their ACL model number for what settings are available. The Realtek HD audio driver is a combination of all ACL models put together in one driver package. When you install the driver it will detect your ACL model number and install the correct driver for it.

On your microphone volume, you should have the bottom Playback Volume slider muted. This controls only the volume level played through the speaker from the microphone. This is where you are getting the feedback from.

For the upper Recording Volume slider, I have mine set on 70 with the Microphone Boost set to +20.0 db. I also have both the Noise Suppression and Acoustic Echo Cancellation dotted to.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Ok. I tried that and since I wasn't hearing any sound thought something was amiss. I'll have to get on vent and see how it goes. thanks.

Weird thing about the realtek site. Or maybe not so weird lol. I clicked the links for both drivers, the ac97 and the HD one. On the ac97 there were no click-able links and on the HD one only the two vista links were click-able. Wish the README file would have been click-able though.

EDIT: oh and I downsized those two snips but apparently not enough. I went with 800 I think. What size do I need to make them so they don't stretch the threads? (See, I told you I'm clueless.)

Edit II: Also, what is the etiquette for leaving those snips up? I noticed earlier today that they show up on my profile settings and i can delete them from there. I don't want to waste your bandwidth, but at the same time I don't want the threads to look all funky when they disappear. When I read back threads I learn from the snips that are still there. So what's the admin preference on this?

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Bubba,

The image sizes are fine, and it's fine to leave them displayed as is.

You might get a better microphone volume test using Sound Recorder at C:\Windows\System32\SoundRecorder.exe. Just record a sample with your microphone and save it to your desktop, then play it back to hear how it sounds. You can then make adjustments to the microphone volume as needed.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I've been fighting with the installation of my sound device for days now. I just purchased a P5K Motherboard with onboard Realtek Audio.

No matter what I've tried, the volume mixer keeps telling me there is no audio device installed.

It's enabled in BIOS, if I uninstall the realtek driver (1.91) windows will install an MS driver, so it sees the device, but it always has the red x over the volume icon.

I'm very puzzled over this issue.

Hi Bubba,

Since the old driver gets uninstalled completely during the first install, you lose all settings for the 2nd install. :(

Jules and Al,

In the Control Panel (Classic View), open the Sound icon. Under the Playback tab, check to make sure that Speakers is enabled with a green circle with a check in it. If not, then right click on Speakers and click Enable.

Hope this helps,

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Jules and Al,

In the Control Panel (Classic View), open the Sound icon. Under the Playback tab, check to make sure that Speakers is enabled with a green circle with a check in it. If not, then right click on Speakers and click Enable.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
Speakers are enabled. green checkmark is there also. The configure button does nothing when I click on it.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Strange,

Does your audio work when Vista installs a default driver for it?
Same thing with the Vista driver, it claims the device is ready to use, but volume mixer reports no audio device installed.

I may just reinstall in a couple of days, I know it sounds harsh for an audio problem, but since this is a fresh install with SP1, I haven't really installed all my necessary apps.

I'll post back with results including my assumed rationale as to why the problem had occurred. :sarc:

Thanks for your help Shawn.
