well my card sits at around 75-80c full load.... its always been a hot card due to the single slot cooler

i had it @ 93c before..:eek::eek: when i forgot to adjust the fan
but the G92s will take a fair bit of heat

I've just been playing Bioshock for about 2 hours and my card is at 78c. Bioshock looks tremendous with these .98s but it looked great with the .92s as well. Nvidia have definitely come through for us in the end.
Pity it took so long because in the early days I was really disappointed with both Vista 64 and my GPU. SP1 seemed a big improvement but these last three drivers ( .84, .92 and .98) have made a dramatic improvement.
Can things get any better than this? Hope so but I'm satisfied right now so it no longer really matters.

thats pretty hot for the GPU.. you should turn the fan speed up higher when gaming just to get the temp lower.. then turn fan back down when not gaming. My GTX260 idles around 50, or less when at stock speeds. then I've never seen it anywhere above 61C, ever. even when Oc'n from stock 576 MHz core clock to 740 MHz, it still didn't get above 63C.. it's a cool card, I like it.

Hi Gunther, thanks for your advice. I've had two near death experiences with nTune so have been reluctant to go anywhere near nvidia control software ever since.
However I looked in Nvidia control panel and it seems I had my GPU fan set at 33. I had assumed that it would increase automatically as temps rose. I take it this isn't the case.
I've found that I can set it at 55 without the noise becoming too intrusive and this gives me an idle temperature of 49c whereas it had been 62c.
Is this what you meant? Obviously I could turn it up a bit more when embarking on a long game session.

yes exactly what you should do. Mine is auto'd at 40%, I have it set to be at 60 on startup. and I have a profile for when I game where it's at 75%.

Yea ntune was scary. I never, ever, ever got it to work. I use eVGA Precision, it's a great program, and one of the easiest ever. It just works very well for the main essential things for a GPU, has a monitor you can change into different views. then a Core Clock, Shader, and memory, then fan speed area. and thats it. Rivatuner works for this. but it's to confusing. eVGA Precision is the best tool I've found and thats what I use for fan speeds.

Thanks Gunther, I had a look at EVGA Precision and it looks neat but I have a BFG card so it won't be compatible will it?
I altered my fan speed speed with Nvidia control panel.
Just had a closer look at RivaTuner and I can see that I can control it from there. I'd only been using that to monitor temps previously. I'll have a closer look tomorrow and work out how the profile thing works.
I still haven't worked up the guts, time and attention span to oc my cpu but I will, I will.

Hmmm.

Second GTX260 came in yesterday - long story short, It's in, it works and my Vantage score is now 15K when they are SLI'd.

However, I have a new issue - they are down clocking like mad....

Have you tried something like GPU-Z? Does that have the same readings?

you need to increase the Shaders along with the Core in order to hit those speeds. I could NOT hit anything above 713 without it downclocking to 301 unless I added more to the Shaders. but do NOT link them while Overclocking it. you'll have problems. I leave it at 1512, or 1533 and thats good enough for any OC. give her a try, certain speeds can only be hit with adding Shaders. so that might be why it's downclocking. does it do it the second you hit apply to the OC. or just goes to 2D mode to often and to long. what driver are you on? the .92 supposed to fix the downclocking.

I just tried that, you should hit that speed anyways. but ya. I'd just set the core and shaders on all profiles to be set at NOT linked, and leave it at 1512, and go to something higher like 1533 when trying for higher above 720 clocks, other than that. dont go any higher on the shaders.

Has anyone tried the 177.98 drivers.. I'm on the .92 and they seem fine so far. but I've been having weird monitor things happen. Not sure if it's driver problem or the Monitor.

Let me know if you have .98's and if so how you like them.

Hi Gunther,

Just remember that the 177.98 version is a 3rd party modified driver and is not from NVIDIA like the 177.92 version.

The 177.92 are also beta drivers still, so might see a few problems such as what you mentioned with them.

Hi all. I've been using the .98s since abiosis posted about them over two weeks ago. I think they're good but not appreciably better than the .92s. Mind you I've not done any proper comparison tests so I can't really say. I've not had any issues with them.

everlong. you think that could be what is causing weird Monitor activity. I think it's that or I got a bad monitor.. every once in a while I'll wake it from sleep mode. and the new monitor only does this. the entire screen is like moving.. not far. I can still see the picture fine. but like all the pixels are moving a tiny tiny bit. it's almost like Clear sand is moving on the screen.. it goes fuzzy. and power cycle doesn't help it at all. I've tried.. but i did manage to but PC back to sleep.. and after it powered down. I re-woke it up. and it stopped.. so I'm not sure. I'm wondering if maybe this monitor is going bad.. this has happened 3 times in the last week and a half or so.. but I can always get it to stop with resleep. or restart.. but something's weird thats for sure

Do you have the new monitor's driver installed for it other than the graphics card drivers? Sometimes this can be a issue without them installed.

No I never installed the drivers for the new monitor.. Maybe I should huh.

if I do will it erase my current settings.. like brightness and contrast and all that. as it took forever to get where I wanted it.

I do not know for sure if it will or not, but I do not think so. That is usually controlled by the graphics card driver. I would write them down to save you time later just in case.
