Hi Roy, nice corner office. Don't you love that top exhaust case design while the rear air circulation is not ideal? Is the newly added side fan blowing out or in?

It is blowing out taking heat away from the graphics card, the front two are sucking in so the end result is quite good.

@Stevie, I have a coolermaster as well, with two side fans (one with blue LED's), one rear and one in the front (also with blue LED's) and you gotta love this case, seriously! It looks great, has supreme cable management options and it's CHEAP! Am I right, or am I right?:p Now I have one question: I've got the two side fans blowing in (obviously...:p) rear blowing out and front blowing in. If I were to install two fans on the top (or one..) wouldn't that interfere in my case's natural airflow from front (low) to back (high)... The air blown in by the fan over the cpu heatsink would be sucked away by the top fan over the cpu heatsink before it can be effective, wouldn't it? (Kinda understanding what I'm gettin at here...?:p

Hi amplid, if you don't mind I try to answer the question and Stevie please jump in any time.

Usually it is recommended to have same number or more fans blowing out then sucking in. The way you got it now, the two side fans seems abstracting the air flow from the front that carries the heat from the HDDs. The hot air is circulating inside the case instead. You might have heat problem if you lot up the expansion slots and the HDD bays.

So, my suggestion would be, remove the two side fans and put one on the top helping in exhaust because heat normally rises to the top. Put one on the bottom in helping push the heat to the top main while feeding flash air to the GPU turbine. If the unit is located in a corner close to the wall which air circulation is not ideal, I would keep one side fan blowing out instead.:geek:

Let me know if it doesn't make sense. :p

Well I have to admit that it's making a lot of sense what your saying, with the air from the front sort of turbulating/colliding because of the stream of air from the side, but I have to say that it's really working very well...:p My CPU temp has dropped 15 degrees fahrenheit since I put that fan on the side blowing onto the heatsink...:p (The heatsink is standing upstraight on the mobo, so not a heatsink with a fan that blows sideways...) Now I think I might install a fan on the top, to blow out that turbulating hot air from the front and side intake... If I have one of those side fans blow out, I'll have wind in my face the whole time and I like the way it's keeping my CPU cool, what I could indeed do however, is put the lower side fan on top....

Nice setup's here guys.

Hey amplid, so how you liking the CM690. I personally removed the side panel fan. as it disrupts the natural airflow from bottom front to top back.. when I took it off my temps dropped.. I was happy.

Also a little tip for everyone on case fans. it's usually better to have one more exhaust fan than there is intake fans. The reason for this is that all the air is being sucked in.. and then sucked out. if there's the same amount of fans it will be a slow moving but steady airflow. if there's one extra or faster exhaust fans then the air will be sucked as fast as possible out the case. Like a Suction of air leaving. Making airflow faster. therefore cooler parts.

My CM 690 has the front Fan on bottom. and under my one HD I added a second 120mm fan behind the stock one down there. so any leftover air in those metal racks will get blown into the case. I then have my rear exhaust fan, and the two top mounted 120mm fans on Top. I used to have a bottom mounted 120x38mm fan. I removed it when I added the PCP&C 750w Quad. and so far with it missing, temps aren't ANY different.

Also guys I've been gone a while, sorry about that. I've been busy. I just got some new Ram. :) the Corsair Dominators 2x2GB PC2-8500C5D set.. they are currently at 1125 Mhz at 5-5-5-15 and rock solid.

Hey gunther, I was eager to get ur response on my CM690 job;)

Well I see what you're saying with the side fan, but as stated before, the only reason leave it there is because it keeps my cpu so cool. My heatsink is really crap, but I got a job in the christmas holidays so I'll buy a new one then! Then I can put that side fan on top as well. Yes there is no way being able to install a fan in the bottom with the PC P&C... I had to squeeze pretty hard to get the power cables through the whole in the mobo tray because that PSU I so darn long...:p

Oh yes, guys, I'm getting an XFX 9800GTX+ for Christmas:D

Cheers,

Amplid

Nice amplid.. good for you, it's a good card.. and hey sorry I've been away for so long. Please link me to your pics and I'll give it a look. I'll upload new ones with all my changes soon. I also just today got the X-Fi XtremeGamer. and it's amazing. Sounds just sooo great. but ya. I never saw your CM690 pics. so lets see em man.. oh and you can get a 80mm fan down there in front of the PSU. the fry's by my house has 80mm fans with filters as they wont fit the one that comes with the case. but like I said. I had a 90CFM 120x38mm down there.. and with it missing my temps aren't ANY different. so I'll probably just go without one down there. although I have a second fan behind the on on the bottom front. just to help through those weird HD cages.

I'm loving this new case so far. 5-10c cooler on components, plus it has heaps of room and looks a little bit like HAL from 2001: Space Odyssey;) It's not a pretty case. It's a MAN'S case :p
