Thats the Standard laptop Every student at my school gets :D

LOL! When I was your age, the standard computer used only by people who took computer classes was a DEC-10 (somewhere between a minicomputer and a mainframe with a harddrive (if you can call it that) of 10MB and the size of a refrigerator with a paper tape bootstrap and a card reader and a printer and an input device each the size of a desk). The idea of having our own computers was totally out of the question.

I guess if you get a laptop for free, it's only fair to put up with some monitoring. I suppose the school gets grants to afford to give out these computers and they probably come with terms and conditions and I wouldn't be surprised if one of those conditions was to ensure it was used properly at all times (hence the monitoring software which probably also came free - do you know what software they use?).

If he wants his freedom, then he should get his own laptop where they have no right to do that (but then he may not be able to access the school's wifi or network {it may be configured to require the software to permit access} - or may need a satellite link and account to do so while there - and even then he may be able to get to the internet but not be able to access the school's intranet even remotely without that software).

i guess its fair.... but if you bring your own laptop and they still force that spy program onto you, then i would think its an issue. im not sure what software they used.

I've run 3dmark vantage v1.1. It wouldn't give me a overall score because I guess the drivers 270. are beta? I tried loading the 266 ones but everything screwed up and I ended up having to boot up in safe mode and do a system restore haha.

Anyway with all the settings maxed at 1920x1080 (except post processing scale at 1:2 because I don't know what that means), hyperthreading still on, and the cpu setup as physx, also nothing overclocked (except the cards that came a bit bumped up):

I got graphics score 33209, cpu score 25903. Jane Nash = 98.51 FPS, New Calico = 96.0 FPS, AI Test = 3603.21 operations/s. The coretemp prog reported a max cpu temp of 61c. EVGA precision showed the cards stayed low to high 70's. I'm pretty damn happy with that.

Ran the crysis benchmark:
DX10 1920x1080 AA=16xQx, 64 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Last Average FPS: 65.03. Play Time: 36.83s, Average FPS: 54.3 Min FPS: 29.64 at frame 139, Max FPS: 83.94 at frame 1660

I can play crysis 2 max settings at 6140x1080 no problems. Albeit all three gpu's are working at it, and at high 70's for temp.

Thanks. It's been nothing but awesome so far. Best system I've ever had by far. It was so fun to research and order the parts and put it together that I almost want to water cool it right way just for the fun of it haha. If I can resist the urge I will end up going that route later on when I finally decide to overclock the cpu and gpu's.

help with laptop

Hey everyone Happy easter!

My windows vista laptop wont stay turned on, When I turn it on it stays on for about a minute then switches off. It is plugged in and the lights come on to show its trying to charge or something. But it keeps switching off. Also when it did work the cd drive didnt pick up any cds or dvds. The warrenty has expired, Ive sent it away twice when it had warrenty because the same thing happened and they replaced the battery about a year and half ago. The time before that they had to reboot it so I lost everything. I want to buy a E drive but they are expensive. Also I asked them to fix the sound which decides to stop working if I didn't play something as soon as I logged in, and continued playing it. But now it just won't even stay turned on. I tried safe mode but it still switched off before I could type my log in password. It had a option for start up repair (because it hadn't shut down properly) so I tried that and half way through the process same thing. Do I need a new battery? I'm going to take everything off the laptop when it turns on and buy a new one because Vista is annoying me. Please help.

My Computer

Here is mine,

My Desk is a lot more Cluttered than yours but I know where everything is so I just leave it :p

@Shadowjk: You think that that is cluttered! Mine is far worse! lol.

Mine has massive piles of papers, jewel cases and boxes, installation disks, programming books, cables, cans of compressed air, pencils, rulers, homework, pliers, glues etc. etc. mounting up. They are piled too high to see the bottom of the screen, they slip off the desk, they block the printers out tray, and sit on top of the printer so that it is hard to slip things into the scanner, slips on top of the keyboard, clutters up the mousemat etc. etc.. Occasionally my mother tells me to clean it up, but it happens again within about two days.

And I have NO idea where anything is! But my bedroom is actually reasonably tidy! Only my desk!
