yup I wasconfused til I read you had the Q6600.. I guess it's good I got the Q6700 cuz it just makes it a lil easier..

Ya I think 3.33GHz is enough for me, it runs fine, maybe I'll tweek it a lil for my Final 3Dmark06 score I'll be posting. but I don't kno.. we'll see.. I'm thinkin I might go to 3.5 or 3.6 and if stable and not to hot. I'll leave it at that for 24/7 use

Yes Bubba they really are. If you buy it in the UK with the pounds I would pay about 150 pounds more in total then at Newegg if I converted that price to pounds (:sarc:geddit?:p) Yes I checked on the live chat room and the woman (Jennifer:p) was going to transfer my question for shipping to Europe to her boss, so who knows?;)

Thanks for the trouble;)

Here Xen, Here's a Screeny of my stuff again. I've been messin around. turned up the Fan on my tuniq, I have a manual PCI knob for it on the back of my case, and I changed my GFX card fan. it was set at 60 percent.. so I upped to 75 and still can't hear it over my tuniq so I'm ok with that.. so old temp was 60 or more on 8800 GTS and now with a oc from 540 Core clock to 576MHz with fan turned up, it's OC'd and still cooler, it's at 54 now idle. and my CPU was around 43 idle.. and now It's OC'd to 3.33GHz and with the tuniq turned up it's back down to original speeds idle temp of 43..with the OC.. so I think these speeds both OC'd and the fans turned up I'll be good. cuz none of the fans are noticeably loud. I'll do a 3Dmark06 bench again tomorro after I install the 4GB of ram and let ya kno what I get.. download Mark06.. not vantage and run it. I'm curious to see what you get.

johngalt.. what do you have?? what quad core, and what cooler.. that it's idle at 30 C.. mine is 37 or so.. and now it's OC'd it's like almost 50 and thats only to 3.3 on a Q6700.. they seem a lil high to me. but then again the side panel is off.. so the intake fan right there is not running.. and the bottom mounted input fan is not there either.. so only 1 place is input.. and I have 3 output. so airflow might not be that great.. but my temps should be a lil better with the Tuniq i'd think.

is your Q6600 OC'd at all?? I have the Tuniq also. I could always try to mount it again.. but then again maybe I shouldn't it might be worse next time. Mine aren't bad for the Q6700, and it's OC'd. how much Thermal Paste did you use??

thats a pretty nice system there. Thats the RAM I was thinkin about getting but I just went with someone a lil more simple..

With a little bit more tweaking I have OC'd my Q6600 to 3.20GHz....I believe I am satisfied with that and will leave it there since it is stable.

And about this paste...my cpu cooler came with paste already on it (i know you weren't talking to me, but I want to know as well..) does that mean I don't need to add more? Or should I have put more on? It seemed to have plenty...

was it a PAD? not paste but a pad on it.. I've heard good and bad things.. use it since it's on, but if you ever reinstall it just get Thermal paste like Artic Silver 5, or I'm using Antec Silver 5 and it works just as good as the name brand Artic silver.. and Antec is well known also,

you should be good with that, I'm assuming it was the pad. some people don't like them I personally think they make a mess when you remove it for the first time. cuz they are big and it goes over the sides of your cpu, with thermal paste, more is less. on mine I put a dob the size of a uncooked grain of rice and thats all.. some people use way to much and to much makes it worse.. as it traps the heat in. you only need a lil bit.

Yeah I'm guessing it was a pad then. It was just some sticky goo stuff that was already on it when I opened it. It seems to work okay..

thats a pretty nice system there. Thats the RAM I was thinkin about getting but I just went with someone a lil more simple..

Nothing in my system is overclocked - in fact, judging from my WEI, I'd say my RAM is *underclocked* - also, CPU-Z is reporting it as PC6400 RAM, but the RAM I bought is definitely the PC8000 - the PC6400 ReaperX have completely different timings, and in BIOS this set defaults to the 5-5-5-18 timings that is native to the PC8000 RAM....

re: how much thermal paste - I went to the Arctic Silver website and followed their directions explicitly - so, basically, about the same volume as a gran and a quarter of rice (I'm Indian, so I related well to that anyway :P)

It's a matter of personal choice, really - I tend not to want to use what is sent on a CPU, but I bought a new, retail CPU as opposed to the OEM version (a whole $20 USD more) so I could get a decent warranty and start with a CPU I know has not been messed with....

was it a PAD? not paste but a pad on it.. I've heard good and bad things.. use it since it's on, but if you ever reinstall it just get Thermal paste like Artic Silver 5, or I'm using Antec Silver 5 and it works just as good as the name brand Artic silver.. and Antec is well known also,

I did not know Antec was making a silver thermal compound until I read your post about it, Cory, but I may have to check that out next time - after I get through this 5 OZ of Arctic Silver I have :P....I also bought the cleaning kit from Arctic Silver as well, and man, it does a great job of cleaning old crud off stuff (the Tuniq I had used previously cooling a P4 3.2 GHz Prescott....)

Well.. I'm confused, are you saying that buying a OEM CPU means iot's possibly been messed with... like put in machines and stuff.. that would be lame. It came sealed in a package with a seal for satisfaction or some crap.. lol.. and ya I'm not going to max out my stuff and ruin it's life span, my cpu has a mild oc to 3.33GHz, and I'm probably going to just leave it at that..

and I used some artic silver 5 on my old AMD DualCore 3800+ and temps were around like 55 C... and then I got a new AMD Dual 5400+ 2.8 on my old machine.. and used that antec Silver 5 and the same small cooler that came with the 3800 and I used that small cooler on the 5400+ and it's temps used to idle around 13-15 all the time.. it was amazing. I kno my 5400+ was a 65nm Proc, and the 3800 was a 90nm chip, and 65's run cooler... but that Antec Silver 5 has the Exact same Ratings as the Artic.. and you can get a big tube of it for a few bucks at the local store, I got mine from Office Depot, it's at Circuit city also.. and It seemed to work great.. possibly better than the Artic IMO

Well....sometimes. It may be a new OEM and it may not be a new OEM....I didn't want to take a chance either way.

If it was sealed, then it is probably trustworthy.

I should also have said when purchasing from auctions, as opposed to purchasing from an online vendor / reseller / store. They cannot afford to lose the reputation....

If you bought it from a vendor/store...then its definitely a new item and not used..

Otherwise there would be many, many lawsuits by now and that vendor/store would either A: no longer be in business..or B: have a new policy about their hardware xD

Don't worry gunther..you're safe ;)

Tigerdirect.com.. seems safe to me. Meh, works fine, and OC's great, so either way I'm happy with my purchase..

BTW, I decided to mess aorund a little more today and see if I could get a little more OC.. not to hard actually.. Ran fine, OC'd my GPU a bit also and then Ran 3DMark06 and checked my scores agian.. was not bad.

Xen, i kno you just got to 3.2 and I was already at 3.33GHz, so sorry for showing you a picture thats showing how easy to OC the Q6700 is. But Here's another screeny of what I did tonight.. although I'm really thinkin I'll just move it back down to 3.33GHz, cuz thats fast enough and I might as well not overdue it if I don't need to. But here's another screeny

not bad, my 3Dmark06 score went up to 11,871
Almost 12k, thats my goal I'm thinkin.. hehehe.

or open this link and click on pic, that will make it big enough to really read the small text easily. :)
