haha ok well this is just from my experience,
one of my friends has a 3850 with 512mb which has a faster core than a 3650 (i got my 3650 from him) but because my 3650 had 1gig in it it was able to outperform the 3850 :D

it outpeformed it purely because of the faster core mate

dont get me wrong you have a point more ram does mean extra pformance up to a point , more ram means more AA more AF and higher res textures can be held in the frame buffer and processed , however there is a limit especially when you are talking of the same core (260 gtx) the core can only perform well up to a point so ramming up the AA to 16 AF to 32 and res to 2560x1920 will saturate the performance anyway , the chip cant handle it , 896mb is enough for that card i think , no game ive tested runs anywhere near 512mb at 1680x1050 , if you ramp it up anymore the card will struggle to maintain a gameable fps :)

so yes a gtx285/295 etc then go for the extra memory it will help at the higher textures the card can handle but the 260 im thinking your better off saving the cash

but if it has a faster core / memory anyway you will get better perf :) but you wont benifit from the extra ram on that particular chip :)

na.... the 3650 had the slower core..... by 300 mhz at least, it was the ram that made the difference because the exact 3650 except with 512 was out preformed by his 3850 where the 3650 with 1gig out preformed the 3850

na it was the same speed of memory
there was just more to work with....
think of it like two cpu's that are the exact same and the one with more memory can do more than the other

So I shouldn't get the higher ram version, because it won't be using it all?

if you running over 1680x1050 with over 8aa and over 16af in may help but i douubt it because at those resolutions your card will perform very badly indeed the gtx260 is a good chip but its not that good

take a quick look here

gtx 260 896mb vs 1792mb

The memory volume is required at high resolution, but we should not forget about the GPU power , as you see the additional 1Gb is almost useless .

this goes some way to explain what im trying to say , you do need over 512 mb for todays games , 896 is the sweet spot for a 260 , more ram does definately benifit a faster chip as it can handle the super high res and lots of AA and AF the 260 cant , therefore the 896 is fine , the other imo is a waste of cash , unless it has a faster core/memory by default , read up on how a gpu works , how it uses its memory and what for it'll help you understand what im banging on about ;)

but its your cash :) Imjust trying to give you some ideas good luck :)

either way you'll love the 260 its a super card

no always uninstall first and its good practice to use a driver cleaner in safe mode after uninstallation especially when fitting a new card

Yep. But install driver sweeper before rebooting into safe mode.

When in safe mode, right click the driver sweeper icon and 'run as admin' - otherwise it may not always delete everything.

make sure you only select the nvidia components before you 'clean'.

Also it is my birthday in 10 days and depending on how much money i get, I may get the Evga GeForce GTX 285 FTW edition :D. Do you think the Ultra power supply could handle that card?

I think the 285 will be a very awesome card :D

Undoubtedly it's a great card, but for the price have you considered the 275?

EVGA GeForce GTX 275 Video Card - 896MB, PCI Express 2.0 x16, SLI Ready, Dual DVI, FREE Terminator Salvation Game Coupon at TigerDirect.com

The performance is roughly 10% less than the the 285, but since you're using a 22", the difference between the two would be neglible at that res. You could use the extra money for a good mouse/kb+video card :)

As for the PSU, the 285 FTW min specs are:
The Minimum (PSU) requirements for this graphic card are:

Watts: 550
Voltage: +12
Current rating: 40 Amps

Whereas the Ultra only supplies 36A on the 12v rail.

It should be fine if you are aren't overclocking or have a lot of other devices ie Fans, HDD's etc, but you could potentially run into some issues.

Some people can get away with running far less than the minimum specs while others have nothing but problems. When it comes to PSU's, it is sometimes better to err on the side of overkill rather than underkill.

Have you ordered / have the Ultra X3 yet? If not, it may be worth re-considering a different PSU (sorry if this has already been answered, I forgot :o)

Nah, I haven't ordered anything yet. If you find a nice power supply that isnt like 130$ I would like to look at it :D. I would like a modular if possible :P. I will look into the 275 though.
Also, with the 275, would the higher memory on the card ( 2Gig ) be worth it? Or would it be similar with the 260, like not having a fast enough chip to do stuff the ram would help with? ( We talked about it a few posts back. )

They are some examples of good PSU's - They can be a little more expensive, but when it comes to power it's never good to go ultra cheap.

It also depends on whether you wish to add a second card for SLI sometime in the future, or how many card upgrades will this PSU last. You don't want to just scrape by now only to find that the next card will need even more juice.
