New video card

every review ive seen shows the 55nm running cooler than the 65nm , i dont understand why anyone would want the old architechture?? plus if you get a 55nm card your guarrenteed 216 procesing cores if you get the older architechture and dont know what your looking for you could end up with a much slower card (192 processing cores)

can you give me a link to this info? about the 55nm architecture vs 65nm id be interested to see whats what , i have a friend with and older 65nm 192 processing core card it runs 10-15 degrees hotter than mine in the same case with the same cooling , (they are both Gainward)

i really dont understand why your your recommending 65nm , but i would like to find out :D

meanwhile heres a review of the EVGA 55nm superclocked

EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 55nm Superclocked Edition Video Card Review

Edit.........after looking around i see the 55nm is slightly hotter under load than its counterpart i stand corrected :)

there is still no way id go for the older architecture it just doesnt seem right ;) that said a better fan speed/temp curve modded with riva tuner will soon sort the higher temps

Where are you buying this card from, Evil?

If its an E-tailer like Newegg or TigerDirect, sometimes they show the old picture, but ship you the new model.

check the part number for the 55nm one and see if it corresponds with the one that your trying to buy.

they've duped you into thinking the die-shrink is an advancement....;), in reality its nvidia cutting costs, its cheaper to fabricate a 55nm wafer than the 65nm one, they also cut back on the cards cooling ability & PCB quality... & the whole time the customer is biting their hands off for this magical die-shrink, which in reality runs hotter & dont OC AT ALL!!

to this day ive not seen a 55nm card push a higher OC than a 65nm one can....:(

i see the 55nm model on there for 5$ less (2 models above the 65nm 260).

Its not the Black edition specifically, but its actually just as easy to overclock it to block esition specs if you were to buy that one.

you can, but i wouldnt go past 704 mhz or so because you'll see a lot of artifacting from there on. its pretty much already overclocked fully.

if you want a utility that overclocks your GPU, get either Nvidia's system tools of their site or get EVGA's precision utility (requires free registration to download).

Hmmm, I think I will get the black edition since it is already overclocked. And if there is a chance I can screw something up, I bet i'll screw it up :p

Also, I have heard that these cards are hot without overclocking, so how much hotter do you think this one will be?

This one idles at about 43c and said to get up to about 68c under 100% load (which is rarely ever).

I'd say for you, it'd get to a max temperature of about 58c even in a hot room.

If you were to SLI them, air flow would decrease and your temps may rise a bit.
But one is perfect for what your trying to do i guess...

How much does graphic card memory matter in games? Will the 896 mb of memory on the xfx card be good enough for video games? Or should I get the 1792mb version? I wanna get the best card for that price range so I dont have to buy another one in 6 months :P

An overclockable card is never guaranteed, but generally speaking, you should have no problems raising the speed :)

For example: my two xfx 4890's are the 'vanilla' models with a default 850mhz core and 975mhz memory. Without breaking a sweat they're currently running at 930/1010 with stock voltages with room to improve ;)
