Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version

Just had another quick look, and although I cannot see the image you refer to, I am assuming that you didn't click on Browse my computer for driver software as recommended in Step #9 of my Tutorial http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html

because this is what I got, as you probably well know.

'fraid not about the update. I followed Brinks Tutorial here;http://www.vistax64.com/sound-audio/64250-latest-realtek-hd-audio-driver-version.html, and saved what I thought was the new driver to the Desktop. The driver installed first time up without having to run through the installation for the second time. [My thoughts in retrospect; I should have run the installation from the desktop a second time, to install the driver over an even earlier version....Edit. Had I without realising it, done a 'roll-back to previous'?]

I checked the new install in Device Manager etc. Properties, and found that a retrograde driver version from 2006, had replaced the version I was hoping to update [a version from 12 Dec 2008]. Somehow I had taken 'the giant topple backwards' once again. Not happy with what an idiot I had been, I did a system restore to return the laptop to former glory. Again I confirmed this via Device manager.....v6.0.1.5717 sits there right now.

OK. Starting from scratch, do I need to download the new version from Realtek and save it to my Desktop, and at your Tutorial Step 9, Browse button, locate the driver software at C:\Users\<xxxxxx>\Desktop and install it from there?

However, before installing and while the driver software is sitting on the Desktop, can I check it's Properties there, to make sure that it is in fact the right version?

Download the zip version of the driver from here (it's the first item listed) Realtek

Extract its contents, and save to the given default location. It is this location that you need to browse to when following my method.

Just one question though, why the zip download, in preference to #4 on the list, the Exe. File?

......the previous version had barely enough time to settle into it's new location, and now I must abandon it? Must have had a few bugs, huh?

Good luck, Tony. I hope that you haven't tried to download from the 4th option (Express). If so, you might still be downloading it when the next version is released! I checked it, and it gave an estimated time for download completion of 18hrs (they must have replaced the hamsters in that wheel with snails). And they call this Express?!?

No worries Shawn.......all in good stride, although I must add that I find Dwarf's Tutorial; Device Manager - Install Driver here;

.....simpler to follow, and it seems to avoid the need for multi-installs, to extract the residue of the previous version. I personally also do a CCleaner 'Registry Integrity' clean-up after installation and testing, just to make sure. Thanks.

No express here Mate.....with age comes the wisdom[??] to proceed long and slow, and with constant double checks. The 2 day old kid.5911 has been kicked out, and Driver Version 6.0.1.5919 is happily in residence. Tested with a blast with iTunes!

As always, there are at least two questions to expand on wisdom[???] and understanding.

• Is it always necessary to extract the Install Files from the Zip Folder before running the installation?...or, in other words,
• Can any installation be run directly from the Zip Folder?

PS. Next time you have need to use a treadmill, I'll send over the Sepoys.....they're very good and fast.

Hi Tony,

I'm glad that you have managed to install the latest driver version (again)! For best results, I always extract the contents of the Zip folder (right click on it and select Extract all) and then point to the extracted location. I have never had any problems with my method, the drivers will install directly without the need for cleaning up - in fact, the older drivers are left intact so that you can revert back to them should you have any problems with the newer version.

Not sure if this is the right place to post about this but apparently the "speaker fill" option no longer exists in the latest Realtek Audio Driver? I just upgraded to 2.31 and it seems to lack this feature.

I have a Klipsch 4.1 speaker system and I couldn't get the speakers to output on all 4 speakers because I didn't see the speaker fill option anymore in the Realtek Audio Manager. The only way I have been able to fix this though is to go to the Dolby Master Studio tab and enable Dolby Pro Logic IIx. Seems to sound fine to me but is there any problem with this? Or is there a better way for me to get sound going to all my speakers? Thanks!
