Latest NVIDIA ForceWare Video Drivers

Yes it was in safe mode, and I waited over an hour for it to finish after freezing right there.. are you telling me you let yours sit there for THAT long??

I tried 185.66 twice, neither time worked. I then went ahead and downloadd and installed 182.50 the WHQL signed and they are working fine.

Well, I was off doing something for a bit when I ran the driver installation from within Windows 7. However, I think it only took around 15 minutes before it gave the error and finished after restarting. I cannot remember what service it said that it could not get started causing the delay though.

I got that error when I tried installing previous drivers in safe mode, and when I rebooted the control panel wasn't installed properly, so I had to reinstall in normal mode.

Anyone else having problems with this latest whql release 182.5?? It seems to have screwed my system up BIG TIME. Freezing, BSOD, 100% CPU and errors with nvlddmk.sys and can't find NvMcTray.dll. Have uninstalled and used DriverCleaner to remove any traces in Safe Mode and re-installed, all with no success. Worse still, it shows same problems with a revert to previous driver. I looked at the nvlddmk file in system32/driver and made sure it had gone before re-install. I am just doing a CHKDSK but would appreciate some urgent comments

Thanks
Kotuku

OK, well the beta driver didn't install and I couldn't install ANY previous Vista driver, so I have reformatted and am currently reinstalling all the updates for everything. In the end a quick reformat and get the data back is the quickest way to go. I did have complete backups, but I am concerned that what ever caused this meltdown is in the backups. I am pretty sure it isn't any virus, it totally happened when I installed 182.5

<sigh>

I am starting to remember why I liked ATI many years ago!

You know. when it comes to new drivers, I am like a kid in a candy store... all over them.

Lately though, I have my reservations about it and unless I am having a problem with the current driver, I will hesitate to update to the new one as I just think that they are rushing this things out but I have no way to back this up.

Strange, the 185.66 was slower to install than usual for me, but it did eventually finish installing. I have not noticed any problems with it though. I wonder what is causing it not to install for so many people.

OK, just an update. I went back to 182.08 after complete format and reinstall and just finished all updates. Only thing I can see wrong, is I can't seem to run the Aero appearance, as soon as I turn that on (or in fact run the Windows score where it does an Aero check) I get repeated nvlddmkm errors. I will live with it at this point in time and I guess I don't need Aero (although I always had it on)

I hope my Graphics card ain't on the way out!!

This is getting serious, anything at all to do with anything but very simple graphics causes BSOD and error 0x00000116. I am at a loss, I am wondering if my 4Gb RAM and Vista (not SP1) new install after reformat is causing this problem? I see some are pulling 2 Gb and installing and updating and then putting second lot of RAM back.

I have totally reformatted and re-installed vista and done the updates 3 times. Currenty trying the Beta drivers 185.66 but while they installed OK, they are no better.

Ready to trash this machine, I can't afford the angst!

This all started with the 182.5 upgrade and has spiralled out of control

If you just re installed vista, did you also installed the CD that came with the Mobo or newer chipset drivers from the site? Do the Vista updates + SP1 if you haven't done so sans the Video and Audio drivers, those you never want Vista to do them (in my case, it always all screwed up).

Also, make sure you don't have the Generic PnP monitor drivers but the Dedicate Monitor driver

I reinstalled MoBo drivers (also NVIDIA) from their latest NFORCE download but I DID install the Graphics card drivers straight ater the Vist install before any updates or SP1.

I got latest Samsung inf for my monitors as well

I am away for a few weeks, so this will need to wait until I return. I may wait for Win7

Hahaha

If you're installing Vista without SP1 (so when it's finished installing, SP1 isn't installed), then take 2GB of your RAM out so you only have 2GB in while you install Vista. This should most likely fix your issue. It was a known issue pre-SP1.

Report back if it all goes well :)

Hello, I posted over in the tutorial threads yesterday about a Vista install problem I was having. After fixing that issue (Thank you Brink) and installing over 73 updates (including SP1), my rig was once again running stable. I just reinstalled my GeForce 7950 GX2 and let windows find the drivers (I'm thinking that was not a good idea). Rebooted and was paid a visit by the Wonder Twins ... Zan transformed into a BSOD and Jayna, into a hammer for me to smash my computer! While tempted to use it, I could only manage to blurt out a few colorful metaphors.

I'm now in safe mode. Sigh  After reading through this thread, I'm seeing that basically folks are having issues with 182.50 / 185.66 and some folks are having success. I have d/l'd the 182.50 drivers and I am 1 click away from installing them .. but I'm afraid to ... reading Kotuku posts makes me ill and scared like a lost puppy that just ate week-old road kill. It's 2:22 am right now and I need some sleep. Any advice is greatly appreciated. See you at 7 am ... hopefully.

PS - Sorry for the long post

I don't think that the drivers could hurt your video card. I'm currently running on 182.50's and they're working like a charm :) No problems during install and everyday usage, gaming, whatsoever :) They wouldn't have marked them as WHQL if they weren't checked before.

Thanks for the reply Majkel. I'm going forward with the 182.50 drivers. I'll post an update when I'm done.
