Window Experience Index Scores

I reinstalled Vista, and this is my current rating. My graphics ratings were a lot higher before. I have an "EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT - Superclocked Edition -" graphics card, but maybe I need to use the CD to install the drivers again? I did try that, but it told me there was no hardware on the computer that was compatible for the drivers. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: and i have no experience with building computers, graphics cards, drivers, or any of that stuff.

OK, the fact you have a 1.0 showing means you have no specific graphics driver installed. Go here
Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
Put details of your card and OS in and then download the driver that is offered. When you re-boot at the end of the installation, select the right screen resolution that matches the native resolution of your LCD screen. If you are not sure how to do that, post back here with your monitor name and model

Yes, I'm unsure of how to do that :) Can I get some tips?

I have installed the download from the website, and the computer rebooted. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 2253 BW monitor. What's next!

I see you have your video driver installed and upped your WEI. Your monitor has a native resolution of 1680 x 1024 pixels. That means it likes to run at that for clear viewing type and speed. All LCD's run at 60 Hz frequency. If you right click your desktop in an empty space and then select PERSONALIZE and then click on DISPLAY SETTINGS, see what you currently have under Resolution. You can move the slider bar to get 1680 x 1024 and keep the colors at Highest 32 Bit. If you don't like what you see you can revert back, the high resolution makes icons and print small.

I am suprised that my Aero Graphics got a lower score than the gaming graphics, even when gaming is more intensive.

I can't really complain about my scores, as I got this computer for $800.00

Hi,

You get a high score for your memory calculations per second - do you have 2 x1gb modules in dual channel mode ? I've also got 2gb kingston value ram 667mhz ( in one DIMM slot ) and get 4.9. My processor is the E8400 @ 3ghz.

Thanks

Just with the hardware in my sig. With the processor/RAM being overclocked a bit, that pushed the score up from 5.1.

And that 5.6 for hard disk isn't in RAID either, I have the disks in JBOD, as they didn't seem to like RAID 0, so that 5.6 is just for 1 hard drive.

And Athlon x2 processors seem to get quite low scores for what they are, but all the Phenoms I've seen are getting 5.9, so think I will upgrade to one with some new RAM towards the end of the year.

See the ones with 5.9 nearly all have DDR3 RAM and up to 1600 MHz. You are half that speed and DDR2

A friend of mine has just 800MHZ DDR2, something like Hyundai, which came with his Dell XPS, and he's getting a 5.8 rating with it. 5.0 seems low for 800MHz considering mine's 5.6 at 720MHz.

Yeah, even with my RAM, DDR2 PC8500 (which , according to OCZ there isn't a JEDEC standard out at the time of the RAM's manufacturing to allow for for speeds above 800 MHz) I was getting 5.3 to 5.5, IIRC, but after I bumped up the voltage and speeds and brought it closer into spec it shot my score up to 5.9.

Hi,

There are some factors to do with the way the scoring system works which skew the results - here are a couple :

1) WEI deducts RAM to add to your video card to give your RAM score as it would be if your video card was working flat out and had to "borrow" RAM.
If you never push your video card that hard your RAM will be doing much better than the WEI indicates.

2) AMD processors run at a slower stock speed than "equivalent" INTEL processors. This is because they hand more data per cycle. This is why WEI scores are higher for AMD processors - it doesn't mean they are better, it is just the way the scoring system measures data throughput.

Yeah, but same components and just different speeds - Same amount of RAM, means the speed of the RAM I am now using overrides the amount it deducts from the RAM score?

Hi,

Yes john I suppose it must be.

Does anyone know how much difference using RAM in dual channel configuration makes? Ihave 2gb in one dimm slot - wonder how much improvement there would be by adding another 2gb in parallel. Currently am using DDR2 667mhz - does anyone know if it is better to change this to 800mhz, or to add another 667mhz stick in parallel ?

SIW2

My asrock 4 core glan motherboard supports dual channel.

Then i uninstalled to 2 sticks of Ram,
because I had to reformat and i remember a Problem installing Vanilla Vista with 4 GB.

Anyway i put the Sticks back in After all is Done

and My Memory per sec is Now 5.6

Anyone?

Not a bad score but would like a better processor, E8400 3Ghz would be nice

Hi,

I have an E8400 processor , which as you say would be a big upgrade from what you have. Still WEI only gives me 5.7 for the processor score - we should take these scores with a pinch of salt.

If you want to try the industry standard Dhrystone and Whetstone tests , and compare your processor with others, Ashampoo Winoptimiser will do that for you. You can get it free on a special promotion right now - great program has lots of tools and is x64 compatible. Here's the link for the freebie.

Ashampoo WinOptimizer 4 - Downloads - freeware, shareware, software trials, evaluation - Atomic v2.6 - Maximum Power Computing - www.atomicmpc.com.au

When you first run the program, click " get full version key" it takes you to the Ashampoo website and they give you a full free license.
