An easy question for someone! My Vista64 Ultimate did a Windows Experience Rating when it was installed - 5.6, but since then it has been grayed out in the Performance section, so I can't test it with my new Graphics card. How do I get it to be available again?

Bob Frost.

My Computer

Just rescan the hardware? Click the 5.6 Icon and then rescan it :).

The problem was I didn't have a Performance Control Panel to click on!

Just Googled the problem and found how to turn it on.

Have to go to :-

Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Performance Control Panel and set it =1.

Mine was set to 0, and therefore no panel or anything to click on to update.

Hope this might help someone else with this problem.

HDD is the real bottleneck, I have a 200GB inside, which is enough for me, and a 360GB EHDD, which is for all my music & videos.

What are you getting for your GPU's, I'm curious?
I have the same., just not the score, which is 4.0 and 4.5 that is so stupid on Tri SLi to boot too!

An E6600 @ 3.5GHz cannot score 5.9? I have only seen quads get 5.9s in the CPU bench.

~Ibrahim~

Don't feel so bad..lol...I got a 5.6 for gaming graphics for what I have.
BTW...yeah quads get 5.9 easy, but I'm impressed, you managed 5.8 for ur CPU.

What happened Grim? It looks like your system was fine a couple of months ago. Add anything? Mess with more clocks? Did this happen after a driver upgrade?

My system was 5.0 with a 6600. I installed a 9450 and my score went from 5.0 to 5.6 (memory was the low score, all others 5.9). I was going to mess with it but I saw this response about your lower scores (my system is very similar) and I decided to hold off.

Boost your FSB the slightest bit and your memory score will go to 5.9.

Hi all,
First off, I'm a notebook fan. Here are the Windows Experience Index Scores for my two systems:

1). Dell Inspiron 9300 Notebook:
WXS-Inspiron 9300.JPG

Intel Pentium M (Tualatin Core) @ 1.86GHz
2 Gb RAM (533MHz Dual Channel)
ATI Mobility Radeon X300 Graphics with 128Mb RAM
Hitachi HTE721010G9AT00 HDD - 100Gb (7,200rpm) PATA
NEC DVD+- RW Optical Drive
17" WUXGA (1920*1200) TrueLife LCD Display
===========================

2). Dell Vostro 1700 Notebook:
WXS-Vostro 1700.JPG

Intel Core2 Duo (Penryn cores) T9300 @ 2.5GHz
4 Gb RAM (667MHz Dual Channel) 800MHz FSB
NVidia GeForce 8600M GT with 256Mb DDR3 RAM
Toshiba MK2546GSX HDD * 2 (5,400rpm 250Gb 2.5" Notebook Drives) (SATA II)
Seagate ST9200420AS eSATA HDD (7,200rpm 200Gb 2.5" external Notebook Drive)
PBDS DVD+-RW DS-8W1P Dual Layer DVD Writer
17" WUXGA (1920*1200) TrueLife LCD Display

===========================
The Inspiron 9300 was 2 yrs old when Vista was released and the Dell website intimated that it wasn't Vista Capable, yet I have it running fine, better in fact than XP Pro had been running on the same system!

The Vostro 1700 is just 2 months old as I write and is probably the biggest upgrade in performance, over the Inspiron 9300, I've ever seen between different systems over the years! The change over from single core to dual core processor, and from PATA to SATA, has made a huge difference in the percived performance of Vista Business SP1 (32bit), which is what's on both systems.

Jonathan.

My RAM is holding me back  ! Damn you 32bit OEM installation DVD!

When I get to that time when a reformat sounds like the best option, I'm thinking I'll pickup a copy of Ultimate 64bit. Top that off with a couple more 1GB sticks of RAM and a 10k RPM Hard drive for the OS/Programs and I think I should be solid 5.9.
