Vista SP2 is out

I would so dearly love to have high speed DSL.

I can understand your frustration. However if / when you get your wish you'll find you want even more speed. I do. The human condition is we are rarely satisfied -always "more", - be it faster BB, money whatever.

PC World magazine is saying that a lot of users are reporting ``10`s of gigs of freed up hard drive space`` after installing SP2.

I think this is because the install is deleting all the restore points up to the point of installation of itself.

Be careful when installing SP2. Make sure all your hardware is working before installing this pack as you will not be able to restore to any points previous to installing it.

Hi SnarkyTwit,
Reckon that's half right & half wrong from my perspective.
One computer hard drive is 'leaner' post SP2, & all SR points prior to SP2 were removed.
The other computer also has a leaner hard drive but all SR points prior to SP2 remained.
Why is it so?[ rhetorical question only.]

Hmmmm...let me see

Vist 64 bit SP 2 installed fine. Only took about 20 minutes to dl and install.

Booting i slightly slower from 3.333 green bars to 4.5. It also takes about 5 seconds longer to get to the Vista logo and about a further 5 seconds till I get to the desktop where I find it's slower to go through the start up programs and network connection. all up roughly 20 seconds slower before I can open a program.

I'm finding applications taking slightly longer to load. I'm seeing the blue revolving doughnut a little bit more,e.g. when starting up IE8.

Once applications start up though, they do seem a tad more snappier.

It's not bothering me much but any tweaking suggestions would be welcome.

thanks

I found Firefox takes a bit longer to load. I don't use IE anymore and haven't for several years. I use a post processing software for digital pictures called Capture NX2 and it takes a couple seconds or so longer to save an image than before but it's still light years better than my old XP machine.

I doubt there's any tweaking to help, however.

I would have to agree with dbknox, right now it is the cost. We just can`t afford it. Mine actually runs pretty good on dial up, and I have found that it helps when downloading big files to have a download manager . Sorry didn`t see your question dbknox:
I am curious what do you mean "sp2 failed twice the other way"?
When I checked what updates I had it said SP2 had failed twice to update.
Was this using your download manager?
If using IE, could this be because it hasn't finished downloading SP2 yet I wonder??
I know in the past that has been the case ( I get a failure to update) but when I restart the download using the update in IE, ( not a download manager) it starts where it left off last time and eventually is succesful. It will not install until the whole
update is downloaded.

Service packs aren't about "noticing differences." It's a roll-up of the updates over the last year or so, and a few new technologies. The first time you go to burn a blu-ray disc, you'll notice a change.

i have to disagree with you there. what about vista service pack 1? compare that to the original vista, bet you notice a difference there. some service packs are to address performance issues such as that

No it I wasn`t using download manager at the time. It seems to be going fine with DM. I just do it late at night. It is now over half way done. Just taking my time.
Hoping when it`s done everything goes alright.
