Vista SP2 is out

Yeah I have tried that, and it did'nt work, they just keep getting muddled up again in the wrong order I even took all of them off and turned off the side and rebooted and set them back up again on the side bar and when I logged off and logged on again they were all in the wrong order again.

This problem has me intriqued, I will try my best to come up with ideas, just let us know the final outcome.

How about deleting all of them, shut the computer off for a few minutes, reboot and put one gadget back. Do the shut down, reboot thing for each gadget, that should work. If that does not work, try right clicking on each gadget, detach from side bar, turn off computer, reboot and replace the gadgets.

Just had another idea, maybe a bit drastic for the problem. Use system restore to go back to a time prior to sp2, delete all the gadgets, then download sp2, then install gadgets. That actually should work.

Hiya,

I have tired re adding the gadgets and its still the same, I also deleted the sp1 backup files so I dont know what to do now?

If they wprk, but are in the wrong order just live with it--mine get reordered from time to time---I just live with it. If they don't all; work try this:

Open the run box and run the following three commands and your sidebar will then run properly on reboot.

regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 scrrun.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

Just finished installing . Took me 20 minutes. Installed without any problems. IE 8 seems a tad faster and the system works fine so far.

I installed SP2 to make sure there were going to be no problems, it took less than 20 minutes; now I'm preparing to do a clean install of my Vista with a disk that has SP2 integrated.

Two days ago I downloaded/installed SP2 in about 20 minutes like some of the others and haven't had a problem. It's a hefty sized update at 500+mb.

Your best bet is to find someone with broadband and have them copy the SP2 installer onto something you can transport.

Thanks S.SubZero I was thinking that too.

How???

Google is your friend! ;)

I have now finished and all went very well, I'm now finishing up installing all my progs/tweeks; it seems a lot snappier (almost on par with Windows 7) for lack of a better word.

Hi littlebity; I also use dial-up (I live out in the sticks in Manitoba) my experience with MS updates is that you do not need a download manager the updates are stored in temporary folders and the downloads will resume from the spot from where you left off . I have frequently just disconnected from the internet when downloading updates ( and I have been knocked off a few times) with no harm done.
The updates for SP2 looks at your machine and sees what is needed then only installs the missing updates such as IE8 security patches etc. to SP2 it will not be the full amount unless you have neglected your updates in the past, Mine actually went quite fast. I usually start the download before going to bed. The actual installation of SP2 needs one to be present and it will wait patienly for you to restart etc.

How about DSL with the phone company? Anything beats dial up. My sister once had dial up and when I tried downloading Norton Internet Security for her several years back, I was up till about 2:00am in the morning waiting for it to finish!! It literally too hours for it to finally quit. It may be Bill Slowsky's favorite provider but he's the only one.

I would so dearly love to have high speed DSL.
2 reasons for not having dial-up 1. we don't have it where I live and 2. if the telephone office did get it ( which they will soon) I am too far from the telephone office.
Money would be the reason for not having other types of high speed such as wireless or off my dish.

I would have to agree with dbknox, right now it is the cost. We just can`t afford it. Mine actually runs pretty good on dial up, and I have found that it helps when downloading big files to have a download manager . Sorry didn`t see your question dbknox:
I am curious what do you mean "sp2 failed twice the other way"?
When I checked what updates I had it said SP2 had failed twice to update.
