I understand MSN is offering it piecemeal to users, ( ie: so many users at a time) I think eventually you will see it.

V-Lite users - note this...

When you try to install Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2), you (may) receive the following error message:

Service Pack installation cannot continue
One or more system components that the service pack requires are missing.

This problem occurs because system components that are required to install Windows Vista SP2 are not present on your computer.

However, a common reason for this problem is that the vLite software was used to customize the Windows Vista installation and some required system components were removed.

More info & fix???...Error message when you try to install Windows Vista Service Pack 2: "One or more system components that the service pack requires are missing"

Just for info...

Hello,
I had this same message, searched for a fix and didn't find much, asked MS and the reply from them was:

"Uninstall VLite"

"Go to regedit and delete: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\vLite " then "Install SP2"

Success, SP2 installed.

MS does not like VLite. If you have it on your computer you will need to 'uninstall VLite' then go to regedit and delete the above key, delete the entire folder.

If SP2 see's this in your registry then it will not install.

"Service pack installation cannot continue - One or more system components that the service pack requires are missing"

Translation: "We do not like what we see on your computer"

If anybody has used Vlite to slipstream a Vista installation and can't get SP2 to install, uninstall VLite and use regedit to remove the VLite Hkey solution and let us know if you can then install SP2. It might not be neccessary to re-repair (upgrade mode) from the OEM disk as they say on the MS website.

Good luck with your SP2 install,
Dave

If you like vlite, you can run it as an exe.

If you have the above scenario - copy the vlite folder from Program files (x86) somewhere safe.

Then do the uninstall and remove reg. key as above. ( or uninstall it with www.revouninstaller.con - free- - will probably find that reg. key for you)

If you want to run it again, just rt click and run as admin the vlite .exe from the new location.

A few weeks ago I have recieved a message from one of Microsoft workers that the SP2 for Vista come out on the day of light.I have manage to downloaded that software and when I*ve tried to install it ,my P.C. failed.I am runing Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit system SP1 and everything works properly untill now...I have tried again and the same thing happens twice. So I*ve decided to leave my P.C. and not to rush...I am not intending to search for an advice and experiment with my Solid State of machine because from time to time error happens...

How???

Hi Sygnus21, you can use vLite to integrate the SP2 over your original vista DVD. With this program, you can also "tweak" various settings so you don't need to change them later. Hope that helps.

...

Been using SP2 since this thread was started, no probs yet. only annoying thing still is that vista still refuses to remember the folder view settings regardless of tweaks, darn thing!

wrong, vlite CANNOT integrate SP2 as of yet. the creator of vlite has stopped developement of it and it looks like he is not going to continue it anytime soon

the only way to get DVD with SP2 integrated is either from reverse integration which is a major pain in the ass or download it from technet or MSDN which cost $$$$. you can also take a chance and download it from a torrent but that is risky and not for the novice user

Today has been 30 days since SP2 upgrade via Windows Update. Not one quibble, crash, or burn. Computer is on 24/7 with maybe 2 restarts for security updates and antivirus/firewall program upgrades. Slightly better systems resource usage and memory management.

Hello all,
I have just successfully downloaded and installed SP2 on my 32 bit Vista Home Premium machine. I say successfully because Windows Update tells me that I did and I can't see any problems in the 20 mins or so since reboot (why does it always feel like stepping off a cliff with my eyes closed everytime I hit that 'install' button?).
The one thing that bothers me though.. my hard drive is now 15G for the worse for space and all my previous restore points are gone.
I know some people have them and some people lost them.. but where did they go? And where has my HD space gone?

Thanks
:)

I'm having problems installing SP2 on my system. Firstly the installation wouldn't even start, because I played with vLite (to remove language files that I don't need from Vista installation), but this was resolved by deleting the vLite registry key. After that the installation of SP2 started, but almost at the end of the first step (even before the first reboot), at ~75-80% progress bar, installer stops and informs me that it failed (detailed error says that some file is missing... could it mean the language file ?), giving me a link to MS System Update Readiness Tool, which I downloaded and fired up, without any good results.
What is going on, and what can I do to complete the SP2 installation ?
Thanks in advance :)

Hey Everyone,

I've installed service pack 2 and now my network lexmark E120n printer prints one or two sheets and then pauses to print another two sheets. Used to be I could print about 15 sheets per minute now it's no where near that. Any ideas? Suggestions?

Thought of uninstalling driver and reinstalling also checked device manager to see if it left a ghost driver in the system before I reinstalled. No joy it still does the same thing Lexmark support said they were unaware of any such problem an seem to want to just blame it on the service pack 2 their recommendation remove service pack and not to install service pack.
