Today [2]

Lorien, I often find that after deleting programs, I too have to go and delete folders and files and also registry entries that are left behind. It is a chore, but one worth doing.

I agree, Roy. That's why I started using Revo in Advanced mode to uninstall everything (unless upgrading and a prior uninstall is not suggested). Looking at these programs, they predate when I started doing that so that's probably why pieces are stlll there. And with Quicktimes, it probably pre-dates when the new version overwrote the old one (which is what now occurs) and I didn't notice at the time. I guess I just am stuck with the chore on these - and I had no idea pieces of them were still there at all until I began using PSI.

Richard draws an old statistic out of the air, without any clue of the source. I think Quicktime has over 650 registry keys and values.

Wonderful! And trying to separate Quicktime 7 from the current version (and thus not mess things up) is going to be quite a task if not guesswork as the file PSI refers to is the current Quicktime executable!! Maybe I'll just let that one slide unless I'm lucky enough to find a registry folder or system folder specifically for Quicktime 7.

This is doing my head in! About a month ago, I was helping a Spanish person here. I needed her to install .net Framework 3.5, so I decided to link her to the Spanish Microsoft article. Using Google. Big mistake. After that, Google started offering me MSDN articles in English and Spanish. Just once, I accidentally clicked on the Spanish one. Instead of correcting it through Google, I just changed en-es to en-us in the address bar. Sadly, the problem has gotten worse not better, with Google offering me more and more articles in foreign languages. It is driving me absolutely mad! It really only does it for MSDN and Microsoft, but it isn't only Spanish now. Is there any way of resetting Google?

I feel elated! My current programming project is going well! It is a big project, and I have just written the first five hundred lines or so. The issue with this is that I couldn't test them properly along the way. I removed a few exception causers, but when the whole thing doesn't work for no apparent reason, the debugging is frustrating and boring. The whole thing worked first time!

Now all I have to do is write the rest! A lot more to go yet! A lot more! But I am happy!

I assume you're still using IE9 and not using a Google Toolbar. I would click on Manage Add-ons and then Search Providers and change the default to something else and then delete/remove Google. Then go to Add-ons Gallery and add Google back to IE and reset it as the default. Since it is new, it shouldn't have the problems caused by what happened a month ago and should work fine. I'm not certain, but it seems reasonable.

I think you changed the default search address and while I can see it, I can't figure out how to change it. If yours is different than mine below and you can find how to change it, then try mine where I don't have that problem: http://www.google.com/search?q=&rls...ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7DMUS_en

If not, a somewhat more extreme option would be to do an advanced reset of Internet Explorer options which includes the search scope (but also a lot of other stuff you probably don't want to delete - history, auto-complete, cookies,...): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737. Still, it's an option short of uninstalling and re-installing IE9 (and I'm not sure what else to try and what I just said would be my next alternative) if the above doesn't work.

To be perfectly honest, I would just change the default and start using Bing which I have come to prefer to Google anyway. I suspect that will solve your problem with getting foreign language options much too early in the search process (though not the one with Google). But if you really do prefer Google and want it back, then the above options are all I can think of. Hopefully at least one will work (and it won't be one that's too drastic).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hmmm. Some very good ideas there. Thanks! I actually use Firefox at the moment. I don't have a Google Account, or the toolbar, so it must be something at my end. I shall try IE9, and start to wipe various caches of Firefox.

Thanks again!

Funny, I had a similar problem with the Google Chrome browser. Some how, some way the browser assumed I was French. When I'd type "Google.com", all of the content would appear in French, with the option to view the website in English in the footer menu. When selecting "English", I could see in the URL a suffix (hl=en) that was causing the change--removing the suffix put me back to French.

There was nothing in the Options that would allow me to change it. I eventually had to do a "restore default" to get it back to English as my home language. I think the confusion started when I let Google Chrome do some page translations for me. Searching on the Internet didn't turn up any defects surrounding this. It was strange... but thankfully the restore default worked.

Finally, the exacerbation seems to have mostly passed, so I should be able to participate again today here in VF at possibly close or equal to my normal pace (after nearly 3 days of substantially-reduced activity for that and other reasons). It's strange seeing forums where the entire page doesn't have a single thread where I contributed. It's sort of like starting over again (as I did mostly keep up with replies in the interim). But it's nice to see that the OPs got well serviced anyway in the meantime.

Oh, and John, can't you even do the snow for only X-Mas day itself? LOL!! JK.

And remember, if anyone needs help just PM me or, possibly more effective for additional help, post in the Help thread in the VIP forum and at least I and probably others will be there for you. Although it didn't work for me one time when I tried it (to be fair, it was a very tough thread), it has before and I've seen it help others within a matter of minutes (in at least one case). There's no shame in asking for help. We all need it from time-to-time (even if reluctant or unwilling to ask) and a team is more likely to help the OP resolve the issue faster - which as we all know is the primary point of this forum, even if there are others that are also very important as well.

I hope to see and work with many of you out there today!

Imagine if it would happen though it would take some time to make the code (I assume) or you could install a Mod XD
.

To save me from 30 minutes of research, what is a Mod XD?

When you have a Forum Whether it be Vbullitin (This Forum) You will have an Admin Control Panel which is where John can change anything from Reputation to Forums ,

Along with that the Forum is made up be PHP Programme Language a Mod is basically Editing the PHP Codes to add something special for example Snow :)

Some Forums have a Section in the Admin CP to add Mods to the Forum though most you have to edit yourself in a Host Service Browser or an FTP Client

Though be warned this is a very Risky Procedure as a Simple wrong input in code could mess up the Board and with such a large community It is too risky unless there is a section in the Admin CP (As mentioned before)

A Mod is literally a way of Personalising your Website

Hope This Helps,
Josh

Good luck on that - it shouldn't take too long (if you keep at the pace you've been posting today).

P.S. Thanks for the info on Mods - I've built websites but never used anything like that - just Frontpage and a little HTML mostly.

It looks like we have a snow fan club now! So I wrote a single stanza poem inspired by W. H. Auden's Refugee Blues:

Went to a forum, and I found some snow there;
Not our forum, so I came away bleak:
No snow for us, my dear, no snow for us.
