Today I don't plan on doing much, still feeling ill :/
Does anyone remember that thread called "Teens, parental controls and bios" or something like that, the OP's name was Dee. Was that ever solved? Was thinking about it last night, really been bugging me actually
I remember. I think MamaDee sort of gave in. Something along the lines of "Why do I have to be a computer guru and coder just to stop my children accessing certain websites and programs!?".
We had helped her configure blocking on the router, set up passwords, etc. etc. It was a half solution.
Ahaa, right, thanks
Well, I just finished skimming over the 15 or so pages about a little rascal doing the no, no one his home computer....
Mom asked why should one have to be a computer genius to control her youngster.....
You see gents I come from a far off place, a forum such as this....But this forum I come from is for law enforcement professionals.....
Ya'll show extreme patience and help, with mom, with me, with everybody who cares to listen. I like that but again computers are your forte...
....
I'll be quite frank, Where I came from there would have been a total different reaction if a parent generically speaking came on and asked "what can I do as a parent from keeping little Johnny from outwitting me and surfing, downloading things that are not good or downright illegal " Little Johnny is not doing as I say", "I cannot trust him"..., What should I do??
Was your advice and suggestions helpful and positive? Yes indeed totally, quite appropriate, indeed, for this environment (read Vista forms)....
Now, To put a spin on the solution, or to look at this from another angle of attack on this type of misbehavior or recidivism of a no, no....the reply would have been something of this nature from the other forum.....
"One more warning, the next time little Johnny would be spitting out IC's for a month, no T.V, no friends over, double duty chores, No nothing until proven otherwise"...:D
Then it would probably ended something like this....
"looks like Mommy, daddy or whomever has the same lack of judgement and understanding of responsibility and consequences for ones actions, as the child".
Now I will say this, when little Johnny becomes of age and hasn't thought about these things we call consequences, thats when he will meet people like me...Where "pull the wool over ones eyes" stops in it's tracks, and reality sets in fast.....Do the above words seems harsh?.. Of course they do, but gentlemen that is the real deal, reality....It's a very unfortunate landscape...Where another languge is spoken and inappropriate actions are used that are considered appropriate....
I commend ya'll greatly on your help with her, and consequently Lil Johnny, its a tough road sometimes.....but again real. I'd put good money on a bet that it will be of benefit to whom it matters the most.
I read something in there that Sire Smurfyy had said... He mentioned he was 15 years of age....It was not his age, but what he said that caught my attention. If all the young people showed the maturity and intel of Smurfyy our world would be a whole lot better than its is going to be, I'm afraid....
Please understand, I do understand what adults are facing in these days, but if we are intellecually honest with ourselfs, things have not changed that much at all, really. These challenges are just different thats all, IMHO...
Instead of worring about little johnny getting lockjaw or getting run over by a farm tractor we worry about his computer getting infected or getting mugged in front of his school...
In closing,
please believe me when I say I am not pointing my finger at anybody in paticular,
no one at all , I would be a complete hyprocrite if I did!,
it is just the way it is now....but us as adult are and should be the light at there feet....
One thing is for sure, you guys have patience of saints...Particular if ya' can put up with trigger and I...
