I'd been meaning to do this for some time now but just hadn't made the time. I've recently had to rebuild my basement PC "lab" due to an unfortunate plumbing problem (don't ask), and took the opportunity to snap some fresh pictures that I thought I'd share here.

My Rig(s)

As you can see I have quite a menagerie down here. The PCs (from left to right) are as follows:
  1. Frankenputer - this is a tired old AMD K6-2 running Windows Server 2003 at a blistering 450 mhz. It's sole function is to serve as my Windows Active Directory domain controller.
  2. File Server - this system consists of an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ (2.6 GHz), an ABIT KN9 mobo, 4 GB Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 RAM, and 4x 500 GB HDD (RAID 1+0) housed in a XION II XON-101 case (that I bought simply because it was really cheap, included a PSU, and I thought the green LEDs were cool). It's also connected to that Venus T4U enclosure on its immediate right that holds 4 old IDE drives (1 TB total volume) that I use for backups. This PC was built when I was beta testing Windows Home Server, but is now running Windows Server 2008 x64 and is used as my web/file/print server. It will soon be assuming the DC role so that I can finally retire that old one.
  3. Workstation/Gamer/Media Center - this is the "Deathstar" (Vista Ultimate x64 SP1). It is yet another of the many Antec 900 "jump jet" builds that can be found around here (man that thing is noisy). The full specs for this box can be found in my siggy. This is my primary PC and serves as my dev box, gamer, and media center host. This PC is also connected to the XBox 360 HD-DVD drive (on top of the XION box) so I can watch my now-defunct library of HD movies down here if I so choose (Note to self: time to start shopping for a Blu-Ray drive).

2418316499_384394c293_b.jpg

My Desktop

In the right side of the this photo you can see most of my laptop on the cart. It is a Toshiba Satellite P105-S9339 running Vista Ultimate x86 SP1. This is my "Road Warrior" and boasts a T7200 dual core CPU, 2GB RAM, 200GB HDD, and a 17" display to provide me with nearly all the geeky comforts of home whenever I have to hit the road. It's a beast to lug around to be sure, but that big-@$$ display makes it worth it.

My displays (l to r) are a Dell 2001 FP (20.1"), a Dell 2407WFP (24" widescreen), and a Samsung 204B (20.1") that replaced the sister to the Dell 2001 when it suffered an untimely demise. The two servers basically run headless, but they are connected to the 24" monitor's VGA port via a KVM switch if I ever need to gain direct access to them (although I generally will just use a remote desktop session from my workstation rather than drag the auxilliary keyboard and mouse out from under the desk). For daily use I use a Microsoft Natural Ergo 4000 keyboard and a Logitech G5 laser mouse (best wired mouse on the planet IMHO - I also have a Logitech MX518 gaming mouse, but I never use it since I bought the G5).

There is another metric butt-load of various and sundry other gadgets and peripherals in my lab as well (and another 5 PCs located throughout the house), but I feel that I have probably already rambled on a bit too long around here as it is. I think I hit most of the interesting stuff though.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have (unless it is about the plumbing problem, I'm still a bit perturbed by that whole ordeal).

Thanks for the compliment. It definitely makes it a bit easier to tolerate working from home.

Generally speaking, I'm pretty happy with the MS keyboard, but there are a couple of things I don't like about it too. My main gripe is that the media buttons don't work with WinAmp. And its overall height won't allow you to use the back feet to increase the keyboard angle and still be able to slide the keyboard shelf under the desktop (I need to lower shelf about an inch, just haven't got around to it yet).

But other than those 2 nitpicks, I think it's great. You can probably find a better price if you shop around online though. Just a cursory search shows the price to be $15 cheaper on Amazon than it is at OfficeMax.

yeah right now i'm using the old microsoft natural keyboard pro.
this thing works great but it's just old so the keys are loud.

but yeah i know what you mean by it being to high when the legs are up.
but it's ok with me since it's big enough already that it sits higher then most keyboards anyways.

i just liked the 4000 because the wrist rest was most comfortable then this one and the keys were quieter.

just a question, where and how much did you get yours for?
