quote everlong:

How come you don't have your card in the primary PCI-E slot?

since it works the same exact way ( both slots are 16x 2.0)..i figured i'd keep it away to possibly , help with heat..in slot 1( probably makes no difference) the gfx card would overlap the southbridge..so just for good measure i placed it in slot2 ( again probably makes no difference in, but i just feel good about it lol) the cpu is kept decently cool overclocked @ 3.6ghz with the coolermaster v8 30-35c idle and reached no more than 60-65max..but i hardly see more than 55c , 65c has to be like some intense video encoding or something....so it was mainly to space things out a bit, that gtx295 beast gets pretty hot..idle is like 50c and load goes from 70-88c! no crashed yet and i even have it overclocked from 576mhz core to 620mhz, and the video ram from 999mhz to 1090mhz..

edit: and if im wrong about my little heat assumptions, please someone correct me , and tell me , im doing it all wrong lol, and that perfromnace takes a hit and that it runs possibly cooler in slot 1 !! then ill automatically switch to slot 1 :)

Jaysus Mary mother of god, this is by far my best build yet man, very proud of it, and its stable as heck!

plus the 3 main components that i bought, are basically a trade off, of my older x48 gear ( mobo, cpu, ram), i already sold my qx9770 for $600, the asus rampage formula has 2 bids already @$172, and the ocz reaper ram has 13 bids and is @ $86, more than what i expected to get out of the ram actually, the rampage 2 extreme and 6gb ddr3 corsair dominiators and teh i7 920, came out to a total of $890 NEW on newegg, so i may lose a few bucks like $20-$40 or so once i sell my old gear.. im just glad i broke even basically and got a pretty much up to date system

haha :D
I agree, this is also by far the best system I've built in my life and I've been building only AMD's before. This should be the climax throughout all these years and I've stumbled upon an Intel EE cpu. I am completely blown away with Flash :D
$890, yeah, that's cheap for sure. Great buy.

oh yeah , $890 shipped that is :), and the total sale of my old gear should be about $850 or so, which i already have $600 in the bank for, from the recent sale of the qx9770, which when i bought it, i only paid $650!! lol, so minimal loss, but MUCH gain:devil:

so to break it down the sale of the qx9770 ( $600) just paid for the NEW $400 Asus Rampage 2 Extreme+ the $200 Corsair Dominator 6GB(3x2gb) DDR3 1600mhz ram.

now remains the i7 920 $288... still on auction is my old mobo and ram, the mobo is already @ $172 ( 2 days to go), and the ram is already @ $86 ( 2 days to go), so will jussst about break an even trade for All new better gear .. sorry for the whole story, you guys didnt have to hear all that, but as you can tell , im pretty excited!

why did you go with the i7 965?

for 1/4 of the price, you can purchase the 920, overclock to 3.8 or higher and stomp the performance of the 965 by quite a margin.... so curious why you went with the $1000 CPU?

The 965 has multi-threading enabled with a total of 8 threads and 4 more logical cores for a total of 8 cores running in a octal setting. This feature is futureproof for the ever changing software demands while the mutli-threading technology is still immature.
Native ram support is 1.3GHz while other i7 cores are 1.06Ghz.
This is Flash. :)
I didn't purchase this cpu for overclocking and the idea won't be approached neither maybe only in the future if I intend on extending on a liquid cooling system. Flash doesn't need a nitrogen boost since by default the turbo boost technology is available.
Indeed it's a $1000 chip but an enthusiastic has demands for speed & acceleration of an F-16 and Flash here certainly doesn't dissappoint.

Yes, I did observe this motherboard thoroughly before hand in the store but ultimately the decision came down to RAM. 24GB's is superb but it's too damn costly & around $1000 in Canada for 2 kits of OCZ. I do like to pile up the RAM and not screw around

the 920 also has the 4 cores with hyperthreading allowing 8 logical....

the only diff is tje multiplier is unlocked bothways... certainly not a big enoigh advantage to warrant a $1000 pricetag lol in fact the 920 at similar clockspeeds beats out the 965 so the 2 way mp may be a hinderence

just fyi

I am very confused by this post??? what does the motherboard have to do with the amount of RAM you are planning to install?

Just because it supports up to 24gb of RAM does not mean that is what must be installed.... I only have 6gb of DDR3 installed....later down the road, I can upgrade to 8gb... 12gb... or even 24gb.

Just because it supports that amount does not mean that is what you must get LOL I hope that was not a basis for your decision to get the ASUS Rampage II because it also supports 24gb of ram... essentially you paid alot more for a MB that performs the same as its brother, just named a lil different to appeal to the younger crowd looking for an edge. :p and with $100 more tacked onto the pricetag.

PS: I am not making these posts to put you down for your decisions, but to rather put it out there for anyone searching this topic for their next build... it's good to learn from others mistakes. I also hate to see people throw their money away :(

Also, you mentioned you looked at it in the store, if the salesman is the one who talked you into this, well you got had... Personally, I would go back in there and raise holy hell that you were lied too....because you definitley were if he told you that you must get 24gb of ram for the P6T Deluxe....:mad::mad:

Don't undestand what is ambiguous with my post.
24GB's is overkill? Yeah right and Rampage II does not support 24GB's but maximum 12GB's but hey maybe in the third world country you live in. :D
I'm an enthusiastic. Stick with your 6GB's because speed & acceleration aren't your priorities.
For years now Asus came out with always an top model that standouts with performance & stability. P6T is a derivative of Rampage.
You care about people's money? haha Yea right and I'd like to own a tank and take it out for a night out clubbing downtown :D

guys lets play nice..each has his preference, GNYS we both prefered the rampage 2 over the p6t, but others will prefer other types of boards, the p6t and r2e are hands down both excellent boards..in my reasearch going with the r2e was the favorable choice, thats JUST ME though...others will look at best bang for buck,, and i totally agree..but others ( you, me and MANY others) will just go with the " ALL OUT" board. In my case though i couldnt go ALL OUT with the processor so i went with the more economic 920 and just OC'd it to 3.6ghz. My reasons were cuz i wanted to make an even trade off from my old mobo, cpu and ram, and buying the 920 is how i was able to take a very minimal hit in loss, lets say it costed me about $50 to go from a qx9770, rampage formula x48, 8gb ddr2 ocz reaper 1066mhz, to a R2E, i7 920, and 6gb corsair dominator 1600mhz ddr3.. i'd say that was a damn good upgrade for a small amount of cash:party:
