please tell me you didn't sell all that for $700, and don't get the Rampage Xtreme... please don't.

the Rampage extreme isn't that great for i7, I know you had there stuff on last build, but they aren't that great. they are ok, but there is much better options in the i7 market..

I'd say you should do this. get what the man above said and do the P6T Deluxe, it's one of the best boards you can get, or get a Bloodrage, or my other suggestion would be get the eVGA x58 it's a great board. (or if you have the cash, and you DO. I'd get the eVGA Classified. look it up. it will be the first motherboard ever to enable TRIPLE SLI. and you still be able to run a physx card, and a sound card. no boards that run triple SLI now have room for a sound card, and for sure not 4 cards.. so the classified you can run triple sli, a fourth physx card, and a sound card. It's simply amazing.

I'd return the Rampage and get one of the above mentioned. and the i7 920 is a great chip. it will hit 3.8 Ghz or 4.0 Ghz decently easy. I will warn you. your temps will go over 60c with that. i7 currently runs Hot. (I'd wait for the new stepping release of i7, should be here very soon. they have a new revision of there current 920, and 940 and it's called D0 stepping. they run Much, Much cooler, and overclock better. and this is Guarantee'd Check this out.
Core i7 920 rev D0 stepping 5 :) - XtremeSystems Forums

They were supposed to be released on March 2nd. but were not sure. the sSpec on the box will either read one of these 2 codes.
C0 - SLBCH
D0 - SLBEJ

D0 is the newer, better revision. Just some FYI for you.

I'm sure you'll be happy either way, but I'd rather have the D0, it's what G0 did for the B3 Q6600's if you remember that.. plus your 920 clock for clock will KILL the old QX9770. so you'll be fine running at 4.0 Ghz or so.. but the D0 will do it with less heat.

Also the 6GB of RAM is more than enough, that will do you perfect, no need to get 12GB IMO. oh and if you can, get the new Red Corsair Dominators that are 2000... :)

As far as selling those parts. you should still be able to get around $600+ for that Q9770, and your current Motherboard is the x48 is around $300 new, or abour 200 used. Not to mention that your ram is 50 for each 4GB set. you should be asking more like $900 for it.

Good Luck man! did you sell it yet. i might get a buyer for ya.

The P6T6 WS Revolution is the best one to go for.

EVGA Classfied looks nice, but the setup with a sound card only works with PCI-E sound cards, and the single slot physx card will get very toasty, but the difference with a physx card on top of tri-SLI won't show any noticable differences.

i almost got the revolution.. then i saw it was just $30 less.. so i said ill just goto the rampage.. they to me seem to be identical , with some minor differences, plus the most i would do with multi-gpu is mostly likely 2-way sli.. 3 way is extremely expensive #1, #2, 3 HOT cards together in one box? hmm we're talking extreme heat..which calls for more $$ for watercooling.. i was just concerened with at minimum that the board can handle 2x full 16x pci-e 2.0( 16x+16X), if i were to go 3 way..it would be 16x+8x+8X with the rampage II extreme, although the revolution can do 16x+16x+16X, again, 3 burning cards wouldnt be pleasing as far as temps go, PLUS would require a whole new PSU as well :)

Yea I don't think I'd go the tri-SLI route either. The increase over SLI isn't as big as it seems like it would be.

Shame about your card, Jakeman. Hope you get it sorted soon. Will be a good runner when you do :)

nice jakeman.. i used to have the AC freezer7 pro on my qx6850..it kept it pretty cool , better than the stock for sure.. i have since changed to the qx9770 and coolermaster v8 which is keeping my 4.0ghz OC at 30c idle and 55c load..very happy with it..altough i did have to remove the mobo to install it..unlike the freezer7 which was just simply snap on like the stock cooler..

as of monday though..im getting a new mobo and cpu..but'll ill be instaling teh cm v8 on the new i7 920..im hoping it'll keep it as cool as my qx9770..i plan on oc'ing the 920 to at least 4ghz

Hi pizzaman,
Yeah man, I just love that case....it's so big and roomy and that removable mobo tray is what really sold me on it. I buy most of my stuff from the EGG,; but they don't carry ULTRA. No complaints on TD/CompUSA though the ship the same day you order. Fortunately for me the RMA with ASUS goes through the EGG....they are GREAT when it comes to that. Take care and thanks for noticing.

Hi EmualtorX,
I bought that cooler two years ago for an AM2 build and because the case was so narrow (mATX) I couldnt use it. So there it sat in the box....brand new for this build. I didn't do any temp readings yet; but this thing was on all day and into the night without a single burp. The case has two 120mm fans, 1 front and 1 rear, plus the Arctic fan and that big X3 PSU has a huge fan that blows down over everything. So far so good. Thanks for noticing as there are so many nice rigs in this thread I almost didn't put mine up to view. Take care, and I'll be around here.
