Cvriv... nice work, that looks very well done. I was wondering where everything was as I wasn't seeing any Rad's inside the system.

pretty nice. My only question is with the Dual triple Rad's on that back side. the dual rad had fan holes. I saw those from the inside of the panel. but those 2 Triple rad's. how are they getting the appropriate airflow when the fans are blowing into the rad right into the metal of the side panel?? or are they raised off the panel by a half inch or so?? also, are the fans on the 2 RAD's push or pull for the airflow?? Other than that it looks great. Very well thought up. sitting next to you it looks so stock, but oh it's not!!

oh and that chain holding the panel up. was that your idea, or did the case come with it. I was going to get those Reservoirs. I love the look, but i heard bleeding the air from them was a chore.

looks good.

and yea stillhouse, it gets pretty hot around here also. I'm in Vegas and this desert is hot and dry, it gets around 107F-110F max here in the summer, but I'm sure it gets higher there.. I'm from arizona and it got to 118F or so there often. that was terrible. This year before the summer came I figured I'd do water cooling. I didn't want the summer heat to make me lower oc's and such.

If you look closely,... the dual rad you think you see is only two 120mm fans mounted to the side for HDD cooling. The dual BIXIII's are on 1" nylon spacers. The radiator fans are pulling through. It's quieter this way because there's less turbulence. The chain was my idea. I knew I would not be able to take that panel off so I decided to chain it so it just hangs when I open it. It's open enough so that I can easily get down in there to work. It's a must because the panel is heavy and there's no way I was going to hold it up while working:)

I want to try and OC it now.

Yes! I just got my Antec 900 in, but I have one question. I didn't buy a motherboard, because I was wondering if it's possible to mount my motherboard from my compaq into the 900.

My Dad told me no, because the Compaq mounts on the left side (from looking at the cases front), instead of like a regular ATX motherboard which is on the right side.

hmmmm idk you will have to look at it

It should fit.. but why would you switch cases with OEM hardware? Switching the case of a prebuilt comp is a waste of time IMO.
unless your migrating :) lol
wish i had just custom built my first one

hey guys probably the wrong topic to post this, but since some of you guys were talking about components and ram and stuff. figured i'd ask here

would this be a wise upgrade right now? :

i was looking into upgrading 3 major components,( cpu, ram, mobo) im an extreme gamer, i like to have the most up to date stuff..maybe not the BEST, but very decent stuff.

heres what i have..and i would like to know if upgrading to the parts im gonna mention are a good choice. Mind you i just upgraded to a gtx295..

my system:

CASE: ANTEC P190
PSU: Antec Signature 850 Watt
MOBO: ASUS Rampage Formula Intel x48 chipset 0803 BIOS
OS: Windows Vista ULTIMATE 64bit SP1
CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 Quad-Core @ 4.05ghz(x8.5) 1880FSB(470x4) w/ Cooler Master v8 35c/55c
GPU: EVGA NVIDIA GTX 295 182.08 WHQL
RAM: 8GB 1066mhz DDR2 OCZ REAPER HPC @ 950mhz 5-5-5-15 2T 2.1v

HDD's: 300GB 10,000rpm WD VElociraptor ( c:\ drive)
PLUS WD 1 TB, WD 320GB, Seagate 1TB AND 2TB External Western Digital MY Book Pro II

MONITOR: SAMSUNG 2253BW 22" 2ms 1680x1050 (16:10 widescreen) DVI LCD
SPEAKERS: Logitech Z-Cinema 2.1 USB Digital SPeakers ( @ 24bit 48000hz)
MIDIKEYBOARD: EDIROL PCR-500 49 Key
MOUSE: Logitech G9 Laser
Keyboard: Saitek Eclipse III

3D MARK 06 Score: 21458
3D MARK 05 Score: 26474
3D Vantage Score: 17330
VISTA SCORE: 5.9

what i wanna upgrade to:

mobo: ASUS Rampage II Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

CPU: Intel Core i7 920 2.66ghz ( planning on OC'ing it to the max with coolermaster v8)

Ram : CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory

i have a friend thats willing to give me $700 for my current cpu,ram and mobo,

the grand total with shipping on newegg for the new parts is $895, so about $200 i'd have to fork up for the ( what i consider pretty decent) upgrade

opinions? and im keeping everything else , just doing the 3 major components swap

Wow, that way your losing a lot of money man.. But oh well, in the future you'll get even less for it.. If you really want to spend your money on good stuff, get a 940, that way you won't have to buy a new one in a year, with your upgrading behaviour..;) (no offence there)

the extreme cpu i have qx9770 i got a few months back, but i didnt pay the original retail( $1400?? i think is the retail, got an oem for $600 back then, so its not like im selling the 8gb of ram, mobo and extreme processor for 700 and losing a great deal of cash from my original cost, if u wanna get technical, my original cost for those parts was about $1000, i think less .. so the true amount of the new upgrade would be about $500 or so, $300 loss of the original cost of the old parts( since im selling for 700), plus now $200 to get the new ones( since its $900 for the new)..i still think its not that that bad ,im getting at minimum $5k from income tax, the rest of the money will be saved away
smile.gif
and ill have a nice little upgrade when all the dust settles

and my future expandabilities will be broadend a bit, like:
1. up to 12gb of ddr3 ( not that i would need that right now..but ill have the option) and ddr3 is from ( what i hear) very good.

2. option to go SLI or CrossfireX ( i can only do crossfire with my board..and i attempted a dual 4870x2 CF, and was not impressed .. so i went with gtx295..but will NOt be able to sli dual gtx295 in the future with my board), THAT or the option of tri-sli 3x 16x 2.0 pci-e slots.

3. LGA1366, possibility to upgrade to a new corei7 in the longterm future if i choose to

those were the top 3 reasons for my considering..and because..i have a willing buyer to pay $700 NOW, instead of waiting later and getting close to nothing. As time passes my components will get harder to sell , and ill have to withstand a bigger hit in sale price, also i figured if im going to be stuck with a system for about 2 years or so, i'd rather it be with the corei7

Wow, that way your losing a lot of money man.. But oh well, in the future you'll get even less for it.. If you really want to spend your money on good stuff, get a 940, that way you won't have to buy a new one in a year, with your upgrading behaviour..;) (no offence there)

Amplid

Core i7 940? the 920 and 940 are essentially the same exact CPU... the only difference between those and the 965 is the multiplier is unlocked bothways...

You can easily OC the 920, to 940 speeds, and save yourself another $200

Essentially Intel is charging $200+ more for the 940 for the same processor as the 920 at a higher clockspeed.

Not to mention, OC'ing the 920 to 4ghz nets you better performance across the board then the Extreme OC to 4ghz.

the 920 is definitley a beast of a processor...

what i wanna upgrade to:

mobo: ASUS Rampage II Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

Save your money on that Rampage and get the P6T Deluxe... it is an excellent motherboard (What I have) and great for overclocking.... I believe the OC record on a core i7 was just broken using a P6T Deluxe... the Rampage II is good, but why spend the money when the P6T is just as great, and has better expandibility. It will also handle Dual GTX 295's very easily.

shucks, already ordered the 3 parts on newegg.. order shipped also .. they're pretty fast...as far as the 920, you better believe im gonna shoot for at max 4ghz..i have a coolermaster v8 HSF..and it has the 1366 backplate brackets, should tame the beast pretty decently, as is with the qx9770 i have it at 4ghz and idle is 30c. load is 55c at most and its quiet as hell

please tell me you didn't sell all that for $700, and don't get the Rampage Xtreme... please don't.

the Rampage extreme isn't that great for i7, I know you had there stuff on last build, but they aren't that great. they are ok, but there is much better options in the i7 market..

I'd say you should do this. get what the man above said and do the P6T Deluxe, it's one of the best boards you can get, or get a Bloodrage, or my other suggestion would be get the eVGA x58 it's a great board. (or if you have the cash, and you DO. I'd get the eVGA Classified. look it up. it will be the first motherboard ever to enable TRIPLE SLI. and you still be able to run a physx card, and a sound card. no boards that run triple SLI now have room for a sound card, and for sure not 4 cards.. so the classified you can run triple sli, a fourth physx card, and a sound card. It's simply amazing.

I'd return the Rampage and get one of the above mentioned. and the i7 920 is a great chip. it will hit 3.8 Ghz or 4.0 Ghz decently easy. I will warn you. your temps will go over 60c with that. i7 currently runs Hot. (I'd wait for the new stepping release of i7, should be here very soon. they have a new revision of there current 920, and 940 and it's called D0 stepping. they run Much, Much cooler, and overclock better. and this is Guarantee'd Check this out.
Core i7 920 rev D0 stepping 5 :) - XtremeSystems Forums

They were supposed to be released on March 2nd. but were not sure. the sSpec on the box will either read one of these 2 codes.
C0 - SLBCH
D0 - SLBEJ

D0 is the newer, better revision. Just some FYI for you.

I'm sure you'll be happy either way, but I'd rather have the D0, it's what G0 did for the B3 Q6600's if you remember that.. plus your 920 clock for clock will KILL the old QX9770. so you'll be fine running at 4.0 Ghz or so.. but the D0 will do it with less heat.

Also the 6GB of RAM is more than enough, that will do you perfect, no need to get 12GB IMO. oh and if you can, get the new Red Corsair Dominators that are 2000... :)

As far as selling those parts. you should still be able to get around $600+ for that Q9770, and your current Motherboard is the x48 is around $300 new, or abour 200 used. Not to mention that your ram is 50 for each 4GB set. you should be asking more like $900 for it.

Good Luck man! did you sell it yet. i might get a buyer for ya.

thanks for the tips..thats the thing with pc gear, there will always be something newer better..the parts i ordered are all good imo..i really like the asus rampage series , great board.. i dont really need a sound card , cuz i use usb speakers, and i dont need a physx card..as of now the gtx295 ALONE is running games like mirrors edge at 60fps vsync on 1680x1050 ( no aa though) physx on, 60fps constantly..i can imagine with quad sli...as for the price..i may just put it on ebay for theprices you stated..to get $900 or minimum $850..or possibly work with YOU ..i have no original boxes..but i could put the mobo , in teh box of the new mobo..and the ram as well...the cpu can stay in the board...i work for fedex, so i can do overnite shipping cheap
