hey pooch how does that phenom II 940 work? i was thinkin of gettin one

Hi pizzaman

I am really pleased with it. I must admit I have made quite a few changes along with the processor. New Board M3A32MVP as my old M3A wasn't up to it, New PSU 750watt, RAM upgrade to 8gig and not happy with that the New Hitach 1TB HDD but then these changes should keep me going for at least a year, when I am planning to go up to DDR3 as it is to expensive at the moment.

Considering that the 940 is DDR2 it isn't doing so bad in some reviews, see here;

Socket AM3: AMD's Phenom II Gets DDR3 : Introduction - Review Tom's Hardware

And on top of that it is turning out to be good for overclocking

Freelancer, are those Blue Cathods... I got the UV ones for my water cooling, but now I'm not going to use the blue UV reactive coolant. so now I'm thinking I might get blue lights instead of the UV ones..
Yup, blue cold cathodes they are! Though I always pictured HAF cases as "dark and grungy" so I would honestly say a dark red/orange combination would look sick. Along with some light red/orange UV reactive coolant.

Nice setup you have there still house, thats almost the same rig I had at first... I also just got myself a set of ATH-AD500's. I like the opens. and they are close to the AD700's after a proper burn in... but yea, they sound amazing.. I'm thinking you could take that Q6700 oc a little higher. my old Q6700 on my 750i FTW was able to hit 3.33 Ghz stable with no voltage increase. since it's a 10x I just changed FSB to 333 and that was it.. walla. but in the end i ran 3.66 for 24/7 and the vendetta 2 is a great cooler for the money.

Other than that. you have a sweet rig. with some 8800GT sli action. I'm a little worried there. you have all that stuff.. plus 8800GT SLI all on the Corsair 520HX.. i know my 520HX was able to handle my Q9650 at 4.0 Ghz and a GTX 260. but it was pushing it. I think sli 8800's is a little more power draw than the GTX 260. I'm thinking your pushing the top's for the 520.

I bet you could get a higher stable overclock with a better PSU.. don't hold me to that though.. just a guess!

I wouldn't mix cathodes with UV personally. I'd go for one or the other. The PC I built for a friend had both in with some blue UV reactive stuff along with a couple of blue cathodes and blue LED fans, and they just killed the UV :(

Thanks for the warm welcome y'all.

I've gotten up to 3.6GHz, but temps were too high for the south Texas weather. My electric bill is high enough already without having to crank the AC more.

Welcome to the forum..

No worries about the PSU. Been running this setup for almost a year with nary a sign of power issues. Checked voltages with a multimeter and they never vary more than ±.2V. PSU always runs cool and quiet too.

man that is a nice setup......... how are the radiators fans on the side powered? do they go through the side or through the back?

All eight 120mm fans on that side panel are connected to power rails on the inside of that very side panel. there's a hole in the side panel between the two radiators for the fan wires to pass through to be connected to the power rails.

the 2 hdd fan wires are automatically on the inside when you have the fans blowing inward.

The power rails have a psu molex that passes through a slot on the bottom of the mainboard tray. that molex and the cooling tube are the only things keeping the side panel from being removed.

think of the power rails as kind of like a modular PSU.
