Hi everyone! I'm just about finished building my new system. Vista should be here Wednesday and I'm quite excited to finally get to use the new OS. You can see my new system's specs below. Here are a few pictures.

Thanks. Yeah it's a G80. Not the best but should work OK for my needs.

Gunther, I wanted to ask you a question on heatsinks. Lapping, is it necessary? You know smoothing your surface...?

You can gain 3-5C cooling on lapping both CPU and heatsink. If done wrong, it can wreak the CPU. I have never done it.

Yeah that's what I thought. Looked like a tricky thing to do.

I have never botherd to lap the heatsink. I know it will help with cooling but the risk does not justify the gain.

Uh ya, lapping can help.. CAN.. but not needed.. and it's for sure not needed for your needs.. you don't game to extreme.. you don't have a Big OC.. so it's completely not necessary for you. it can help tho.. Don't do it until it's needed.. if ever.

I just also thought I'd share my new exiting news.. where my computer used to be was a small room, in a corner. with a wall on the side my Tower was on.. almost made it seem like a Cubicle.. and it got really hot in the room and corner.. I think that was hurting my overall PC temps.. and I've recently changed rooms... I now have a room 3 times bigger where my PC is.. and it's completely open. with better air, and a ceiling fan in here. and this room must stay cooler, plus get better airflow. becuase my Q6700 with a oc to 3.2GHz is now Idling around 28C.. thats pretty good on air. I do have a Tuniq Tower tho. when I turn it on in the morning it's around 25C for a while. and now the highest I've seen it without doing anything to intensive is 32C. it used to be up around 40C and worse.. so now I'm FOR sure going to be going back to my 3.5GHz OC.. or even more. I'm thinkin I'll try for 3.7 Here's a screeny. and yes it's weird cuz it took a screeny of my Dual screens. so I cropped the other out. and check out the Temp here. pretty hot. and will only get worse in July.

oh and Ford GT.. not bad not bad.. I had a question about your ram. did you buy the 1000 or the 1066 G-Skill. I have the same set I think.. but mine doesn't run at there advertised speed. in order to get 5-5-5-15 timings like they say I have to run at 800. not 1000.. so I was wondering how yours is holding up. the 1000's are the same chip as my 1066's just rated a little lower... Let me kno.

My Tuniq and my CPU @ 3200 runs more like higher 30s - I can't get temps that low without removing my OC....

Then again I have a 6600 so I am missing one of the multipliers - care to share it with me? :P

Guys, I have one question on fans, probably stupid, but I need to know Fans suck hot air out of the case right? They don't blow air onto for example the CPU..

There's no such thing as a stupid question.

But anyway, an ideal setup for your fans would be an equal number of fans pulling hot air out as there are pulling cool air in. So if you have 3 exhaust fans, you need 3 intake fans also. This helps to create a positive airflow that minimizes the amount air being pulled in from CD/DVD drives and other less-desirable locations.

Actually, the *ideal* setup is to have an equal amount of air being drawn in as is being exhausted - the *number* of fans it not as important as the combined CFM of air moving through the system.

For example - I have a *big* 250 mm fan on the side of the case, that is probably running at 75% efficiency (1/4 of the fan is 'blocked' by mt Tuniq Tower 120 LFB) and even at its lower speed it still moves quite a volume of air into the system - and then I have the 120 mm in the front of the case drawing air directly onto the HDs.

However, I have 4 exhaust fans (technically 5 if you count the one on the Graphics card - two 90 mm fans blowing out (1 rear 1 top), a 120 mm LED fan blowing out the rear, my PSU, which has a 140 mm (I think) fan in it blowing out the rear, and as I mentioned the GPU fan. I don't count the Tuniq's fan as it blows directly onto the 120 mm LED exhaust fan.

Most places want you to have equal amounts coming in and blowing out, but some people tweak their systems so their is a *slight* discrepancy - they have just a bit more flowing in than being blown out, but it is pretty small, and I beleive it can be considered statistically insignificant.

Ya I'm pretty exited about those temps.. Now after running music video's on my second screen for the last 2 hours while bloggin and doing some Ipod work.. my temps are 33C or os.. not bad.

And Not bad at all there Grim.. That sure looks good. Did you get a deal on those 9800's or something. Would of been nice if they were the new 9800 GTX+ tho.. but I'm sure those will Shred anything it gets thrown at it.. Have fun with that.. and COD World at war here you come. or FarCry2.. thats if you game.. I'm still waiting for the new cards to all drop this month.. Then I'll make my upgrade choice.. or should I just get a cheap 8800 GTS 640mb and SLI. since I already have one.. although they sure are big, power hungry, and HOT.. I think the 9800GTX+ would be a better idea. thats why I'm a waiting.
