forceware is just what NVidia call their driver releases

WHQL and Beta are the two diferant types of forceware release , Beta is an "untested" driver release usually to fix a specific bug or update a driver release to include a specific update or fix for a game , it is released for public testing , if its beta it doesnt mean its not a good driver

WHQL means its passed Micrsoft compatabilityand stability testing and is considered "safe" to use on any compatible system but as we know in reality it means nothing

i need some help please. i was updating my nvidia display driver GeForce 8600M GS GPU, which i cannot install. now i don't have a nvidia display driver on my lap top. i tried many times to install it, but nothing happens.

I just installed nVidia's latest WHQL 196.21 drivers for Vista x64/GTX295 and at reboot it worked for a moment then the screen started flashing on and off rapidly. I clicked Ctrl-Alt-Del to see if I could bring it under control and finally got an extremely low-res screen with no taskbar showing at all. I then had to do a hard reboot and System Restore in Safe Mode.

For now I'm sticking with 195.62. My Win 7's seem OK with it though...weird.

Anyone experienced this before?

I can't find anything specific in the Event Viewer to indicate what went wrong.

   Warning

Some major problems being reported with these new WHQL 196.75 drivers. Cards overheating and possible damage due to fan control problems.

Nvidia has pulled them off their site. Recommended to fall back to previous drivers.

Nvidia Developer Forceware 197.15

   Information

Windows drivers version 197.15 and Linux drivers version 195.36.07.03 provide full support for OpenGL 3.3 and GLSL 3.30. The driver download links are at the bottom of this page. OpenGL 4 drivers will be available from this page when Fermi based GPUs are available.

You will need one of the following graphics cards to get access to the OpenGL 3.3 and GLSL 3.30 functionality:
