Solved DVD reading error

Hi, I have bought some games to my computer, Crysis, Company Of Heroes and GTA 4.
but I have a problem, when i put the game disc(s) in the DVD drive, nothing happens. Just a weird clicky kinda sound.
I went back to the store i bought Crysis from (Crysis was the first game I experienced it with), and they said it was a Firewall or security issue, that Vista is blocking the disc from being read.
Theres nothing wrong with my DVD reader (witch is a Western Digital Raptor 740ADFD) it can perfectly read other games like Battlefield 2 and so on. So how do I fix this?

Thanks in advance!

If you are not recieving any alerts or error messages try this:

1.Insert Crysis disk, go to computer and see if it shows under your drive
right click "run"

2.If the disk or drive doesnt show, or runs under manual
check autoplay defaults in control panel
If drive or disk does not display reload drivers under device manager for your optical drive

note- the games may not run if your system doesnt meet the minimum system requirements (i.e., if you have an integrated graphics card, or processor is too slow)

Also, make sure your system is up to date
go to Windows update, and manually check for SP1 updates. This may require multiple restarts. Keep going back and checking for updates until no more are available for your system. (i.e., some games require Microsoft Visual C++ )

1. no, none of the games show on my drive.

2. autoplay is on install and run programs. The drive is displayed, but after about 8 minutes, it show some disc info, like how much is on it. I click run, nothing happens, I click explore and I come in to the first stage, but the autorun is not displayed there, its in a folder. but when i click folder explorer.exe shuts down.

and last, yes. My computer shold easally run it, with 4gb RAM, EVGA GeForce GTX 280 and Wester Digital Raptor 74 0ADFD.

P.S. yes, my system is up to date.

Thanks for the quick answer though :D

You might have Windows Corruption then, or a bad optical drive. Have you used a registry cleaner that could have corrupted Windows files?
Try uninstalling the optical drive from device manager, restart, and let Windows reinstall it.

I used one once, but that was just after my Dwmapi.dll malfunctioned, it didn't work though and I had to restore my system to an previous date. don't remember what the cleaner was named.

One more thing,
Place the Crysis disk back in optical drive, explore the file folders-

click on "setup" exe file
don't click on the autorunCD or crysis file
they will appear to be not working..
but if you click on the setup exe file
it will bring you to the setup screen..
and once you see the "enter cd-key screen" it should install

on the GTA 4 disc, its a autorun.exe in the folder, but when I click it, explorer.exe stops answering. in Company of Heroes is Autorun.exe, Launcher.exe and setup.exe, but if I click on anything, explorer.exe dosen't answer again. crysis is just the same.

if it is a corrupt file somewhere, how do i fix that?

update post- see above for possible fix- Apparently this is a common problem with Crysis. You may have to wait approx. 30 seconds for loading.

If it turns out that you have file corruption, You can try a restore again, or Reinstall as you may have corrupted .cab files ( Cabinet files are used to organize installation files that are copied to the user's system)

when I put my Crysis disc in, nothing happens, and I click explore, then Windows says that its no disc in "E:" (drive), pleas insert a disc. the other two games, that doesn't show, it like Vista just keeps trying to read them, until explorer crashes.

Have you reinstalled your optical drive from device manager?

Try these things in this order:
1. reinstall optical drive (fix optical drive driver issues)
2. Replace optical drive (fix defective optical drive)
3.reinstall O/S (fix Windows file/.cab corruption)

Ok, I can try to reinstall/repair it with my Vista DVD. And reinsall, you just mean reinstalling just those files. Or do you mean reinstalling whole Vista?

Reinstall optical drivers- Windows will automatically reinstall- no disk needed, unless you have to manually reinstall the WD drivers-insert disk that may have come with optical drive, and let Windows install the drivers from it.
(delete the device from device manager, and restart. Windows will detect device and reinstall drivers for it)

If this doesnt help, replace your optical drive with another one, if that one works you know its the optical drive that is defective, if not proceed to reinstallation of entire Vista Operating system as you more than likely have Windows File corruption.

hmm
Are these SATA drives? Windows will not be able to install the WD drive if it is sata, you will have to manually reinstall the serial ata driver.
In device manager, under view, click show hidden devices. See if you have any yellow exclamation devices- If your WD optical drive is listed, and it is a sata optical drive you will have to right click device and manually reinstal drivers for it (make sure you know the lcation of the sata/raid driver. If need be, download it into your download file, and manually navigate to it)

The other way to install the wd drive if it is a sata, is to phyically remove it from the computer (while computer is on), and then reinsert it. This will give you the "new device found" wizard, and allow you to install the drivers.

The Raptor drives are sata hard disks...i.e., storage hard drive not optical drive

your Samsung TSSTcorp CDDVDW is a SATA optical drive, so you will need to manually install the driver

WD Raptor is suposed to be my optical drive, but instead its some TSST thing. Yes its SATA, but i can't find a WD driver in the hidden drivers list in device manager. Info of the drive says 10,000rpm and so on, so i supose its and optical drive, never heard of and HDD with rpm.
