Windows Vista Service Pack 2

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Build 16489

Microsoft has begun testing Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) and intends to ship this release in the second quarter of 2009. Note that there are no new features in SP2; this is a more typical service pack that aggregates previously-released fixes. Here are some screenshots from the first external build of SP2, build 16489.

Hello WeFish, welcome to Vista Forums!

Yes it would be advisable to install the SP2 or you can wait until it is rolled out from Windows Update but either way it is needed for various reasons; this below from the article in this thread.

There are a few significant additions that are included in SP2: Windows Search 4.0, Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack, the ability to record data on to Blu-Ray media natively in Vista, Windows Connect Now (WCN) is now in the Wi-Fi Configuration, and exFAT file system supports UTC timestamps. The service pack contains about 800 hotfixes. For those interested in a more complete changelog, I've included one below:

You don't HAVE to download it - it is an optional update at present, although in a few weeks time if you have Autonatic Updates enables it will be automatically installed.

However, there are many benefits from keeping up with the latest service pack. As well as further improving your computers performance, it includes very many security and other 'under the hood' improvements. Installing the service pack is important to ensure you OS is secure against exploits that have been developed since SP1.

It is highly recommended that you do install it for security alone, even if the other improvements are not of much interest to you.

Hi guys, after I recieved and install the sp2 from update of vista, VistaGlazz did not recognize or not compatible for sp2.
According their site the VistaGlazz site

" VistaGlazz patch core is now SP2 compatible. Normally that would be a very minor change, but we’ve decided to implement some long overdue upgrades to the patch process. I’m quite happy with the result, I might add.
We currently have an untested SP2 compatible version that *should* work, but given the past, eh, “issues” with our beta versions, we won’t release a beta this time. Next couple of days we’ll spend on testing the core application to make sure it will work without a hitch."

I just got done installing both SP1 and SP2 on Vista running on the Virtual PC beta now available for Windows 7. All went without hitch. Now for a clean install of Vista on a third drive here to see how it goes with the two there.

Yes,I lost my "Ultimate clear" theme as well due to incompatibility of VistaGlazz with SP2. I'll wait for the new version.
If you can not wait,you can patch the theme files manually.

Downloaded Vista SP 2 a little over a week ago from the Microsoft Windows Vista Site. I am not very impressed.

My system boots up slower than molasses and has since the day I installed SP 2. It use to boot like a rocket when I was on Vista SP 1. I am sorry I installed SP2!

Even i faced this issue hence i uninstalled and went back to SP1. I would wait atleast a month so that things will go better.

I went with a clean install of Vista where both SPs were installed on that without any issues. You may have something on that needs to be disabled like a firewall, antivirus, or other since you may have seen an incomplete install.

Uninstalling SP2 and waiting is not going to help it get any better, it'll be the same SP2 next week, next month or next year, meanwhile your machine could be vulnerable as support from Microsoft will eventually stop, until you get it.
Have you tried researching the subject? How many free resources do you have, HDD free space and free memory? Are all your drivers up to date? Are you trying to run software that is out of date? Did you disable anti-virus when installing it? Rather than using Windows Update use the standalone SP2 download available at Microsoft.com. There's a lot of info out there.
Meanwhile a good way to check for causes of slowdowns is in Martin's post #4 here: Slow Boot After Vista SP2 Upgrade
SP2 for me actually speeded up the machine and it's an old machine so something isn't making sense here.

I still have doubt on that as well since an entirely fresh install on new primary for seeing both go on didn't notice any large difference for being slower or faster on the exact same hardware Vista was running without SP2. The installation may corrected something else during the process that was slowing things down a bit.

Let's not forget too that Windows will, over time, clean up the system and eventually it should speed up of its own accord anyway.

I must admit that I thought that my computer was booting a little slower after SP 2. I thought that it took a little bit longer for the sidebar to appear. It doesn't seem to be long enough to be really concerned about however (on my computer anyway). Apart from that the srvice pack seems fine. :geek:

Well, I have now given up on Vista, downloaded the SP2 two days after RTM release, and since then, i have had BSOD after BSOD after BSOD. Windows 7 is fine, not a single BSOD to date. I have a more than capable machine, as you can see from spec below.

Rubbish, Rubbish Rubbish. :sick::sick::cry::cry:

And it did have extra's, like Blutooth, but if i can't even use Vista for more than 5 minutes or less, then no. Waste of Monery and Waste of time, watse of HDD space.

:devil::devil::devil::devil:I HATE VISTA!!! :devil::devil::devil::devil:

Right, now thats out the way, but yeah, i thought it was going to completely sort out my Vista, and... No, nothing, if anything, its got worse.!!!!
