Windows Vista Service Pack 2

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Build 16489

Microsoft has begun testing Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) and intends to ship this release in the second quarter of 2009. Note that there are no new features in SP2; this is a more typical service pack that aggregates previously-released fixes. Here are some screenshots from the first external build of SP2, build 16489.

I refuse to trust bit torrents. I have missed out on a few free MMOs as they distribute their executable that way. But so be it.

Fact of the matter is, torrents isn't that big of a problem if you have a decent anti-virus running, and don't do anything overly stupid.

The final release is already available if you have a paid subscription at Technet or MSDN. Still nothing posted for the general release maybe in early June if not in May.

Installed mine yesterday and so far everything seems OK but it's going to be the beginning of next month when I really see improved performance with my machine, changing ISP's so wont be paying over the odds for a throttled line speed

Change of ISPs? Boy that sounds all too familiar here lately in order to simply get online in the 64bit 7s! Faster more reliable connection in the process can't be beat! :D

The stand alone still seen on the IT developers download page is the beta not the finished SP2 seen there if you are not a paid subscriber. The RTM for SP2 should be coming shortly however since the RCs were available a week earlier for those with subscriptions. Keep an eye at softpedia since they allways get the stand alones once out!

Is it just me or does anyone else find their computer slows down after installing this , seems to take a couple off days to happen , then it just gets slower

The only problems seen here with the RCs so far is with the 64bit not being able to run one old program even in the XP mode as well as trying out Winbubbles Lite which tossed Windows and left an unwanted IE toolbar on with no option for removal. That ended in a hard boot with the main app removed pronto!

MS has not officialy released it to the public other than to technet and such. there are others sources who have it for download if you want that

NP, I will wait for official release, you couldent pay me to use a torrent, there are easier ways to get a virus or a rootkit on my system.

Installed mine and running...seems ok. Vista is not faster or slower
I can say, it's the same. :D

sp1 did that for me , but sp2 just slows me down mmmmm not good

I still have the SP2 beta on for the time being until the finished version of it is generally available which shouldn't be too much longer now that it's been released to oem manufacturers as well as paid subscribers. I would simply wait the week or so and go with the general release not any torrents for this.

With the beta SP2 here I never noticed any particular boost in performance since it is not intended for that but incorporate a list of updates, security fixes, and other things like any other service pack. Some reported a slight boost with SP1 however maybe due to a bug fix allowing Windows to run smoother seen there.

If all the updated are installed since SP1 and all is well, why update to SP2?
