I'm just playing around. I wanted to learn how to use the snipping tool. So here it is right out of the box, I did add RAM. A vidoe card upgrade is on the list!

Hi all, I think that all this WEI stuff is flawed. According to this article.
Windows Vista Team Blog : Windows Experience Index: An In-Depth Look
My base score of 3.0 I should be having problems with the image on my 47" 1920 x 1080P, 5000 to 1 resolution LCD monitor/tv. I am not, it is BEAUTIFUL no shakes no jitters. I've had multiple windows, two brousers, a bunch of tabs including a full on virus scan running in the background. No problems. Now I do know that I am probably at the limit. I am going to upgrade my video card because I plan to set up another monitor and do HD video recording, I don't think I can go that far with what I have currently. The WEI is "fun" to play with but I don't think I'll put that much store in it !!! Anyway sorry for being long winded. I'll shut up now. :zip: Thanks y'all

lol, no it's not something to put alot of stock in but it does work out pretty much equal if it's what everyone uses. It's all just a bit of fun and to see how other peoples set-ups score with it. If you really want to know how your system fairs you should use a proper benchmarking utility. Which utility to use depnds on what you want to benchmark your machine for, most people use a gaming based benchmark. Try something like 3Dmark06, but don't take too much stock at the folks that have the top scores as they are running LN cooled set-ups that most likely don't run stable at all for more than 10mins. They are the extreme clockers that see what they can push a machine to, Gamers on the other hand push their machine as high as they can while it remains stable 24/7.

So if you rig is stock standard it's hard going by other peoples scores, I find real world use is the best example. Alot of machinces that get very low scores are still very able to do what people need of them. Some people just enjoy pushing their computers like motorheads like pushing their cars is all. Which by all means is fine, everything likes to do different things.

My Computer

;) Yeah to each his own, I'm having fun. Not worried at all what others are doing, as long as they're having FUN !!! Later, Thanks Y'all

I guess I don't feel so bad that I've got all these 5.9's then.
CPU:5.8
RAM: 5.9
Grap: 5.9
3d : 5.5
disk: 5.7

As for disk, I'm not using RAID, so there's lots of room for improvement there.

Now that I've made some upgrades, I'm proud to show the result.
Added: Now I am using RAID. 2x 512 GB 7200.11 (32mb cache) drives in a Raid0 on the ICH9 controller. The 5.7 before was a single 320 GB 7200.10.

Changed: ATI HD 2600xt 256 gddr3 changed out for 3870 512 gddr4. Note: the first card doesn't support PCI-E 2.0 and the newer one does.. VERY visible difference in games, and my H.264 acceleration still works great!

Changed: CPU & FSB. Pushed up to 413/3.3.. I can go higher, but right now I'm trying to see how high I can go with the STOCK cooler and keep the cpu cores under 60C after 2 hours of video encoding. I have a Thermaltake V1 standing by for after I do that.

hehe no thats my main partition.
i have it partioned it into 5 parts
the primary partition is 50 GB
the rest r equally divided
the main hog in that primary partition is crysis man.....i cant understand what is taking up so much of my primary harddisk other than that.
i mean how big is the vista installed?
anyway i keep looking at my add/remove programs and wondering what to remove but cant find anything that i might want to remove

My Computer

I'm so excited!!!

Here is my updated Windows Experience Index Score and thanks to Shawn ('Brink') and 'Sharp' helping me with my little RAM problem, my WEI score has jumped from 5.5 to 5.7 and my Memory is now at 5.9 from 5.5.

Thanks Guys!

Neil

My graphics card is slowing me down I guess. I'm curious what a '10' system is if that is the rating system. Mine's pretty fast but a 5.6 sounds slow.

"Base scores of 6.0 and higher are not defined yet. They will be defined when the time comes and new innovations in hardware allow new capabilities. From past experience, it is expected this will happen at a rate of once every 12-18 months."

This is my first post here. I came across these forums when googling to find out why my new DDR2-1000 RAM was scoring a 5.0. It turns out it was due to me enabling the "SLI Memory" setting in the BIOS. When I set the timings manually it scored a 5.9. Go figure!

Anyway, specs are:
Vista Ultimate x64
Q6600 G0 @ 3.0GHz 1333 FSB (Ultra-120 Extreme cooled)
4GB (2x2GB) G.Skill DDR2-1000 5-5-5-15
EVGA 680i SLI P31 BIOS
EVGA 7900GTO 512MB (w/Zalman VF-900Cu)
3x80GB Hitachi 7K80 SATA-II in RAID-0
500GB Seagate SATA-II Storage
Plextor PX-716SA
SB Audigy 2 (w/X-Fi driver set)
Antec P180
Enermax Liberty 500w PSU
Dell 2407WFP LCD
Logitech G15 Keyboard and G3 Mouse

CPU should be 5.9 with the FX-60 :p
