Too bad Vista dosen't go any higher then 5.9 ...

Yeah, right? Then I installed Win 7 x64 Ultimate, (the RC), and suddenly it's a whole new ballfield. NOW it goes to 7.9! And I STILL score a 5.9 because it's the highest my hard drive goes... I don't have SSC yet, so it stops at 5.9...:geek:

I have a Core i7 965 EE and it is almost the fastest chip on the street and it only scores a 7.6! Although my RAM hits 7.9, even the 1 gb nVidia SSC 285 scores only 6.8...

The whole W.E.I. is just for bragging rights and in my own opinion, I think MS came up with it to force PC gearheads like myself to buy the latest hardware to handle their bloatware! Ooops! Did I say that outloud? :geek::geek:

heh. :p

I'm having troubles getting my score to 5.9

I get a 5.9 on everything, but my RAM.

And I don't see how because I have 8GB of it with a decent speed (check my system spec).

Any thoughts?

I'm assuming you have 4-2gb sticks of OCZ in your box? I don't know what scores you are getting, but I'd try taking out half and seeing what kinda score you hit. I took out 6gb and got faster scores all around because (and I have NO idea what the technical exacts are...), but I do know that at present, nothing has been written to access 12 gb of ram. Nothing's been written that accesses 12 or 8 gb of ram properly (emphasis on PROPERLY).

Just like going from 32 to 64 bit, native 64bit programs are only now being written, (except for server programs that have been out there for years now). For instance, it's one reason Adobe went from CS3 to CS4 so quickly-to get their x64 proggies to the party.

I remember that even with Windows 98, too much ram was a real issue. Except for being able to access only a small amt., by today's standards, there's always been a 'sweet spot' as far as ram amounts go. Sometimes it's been system specific and I know it has also a little to do with how quickly the processor, mobo front-side bus and ram all work together. :geek::geek:

Well, at the risk of sounding more like an idiot than I do already this morning because I don't know the technical way to explain this, try removing 4 gb and see if/how it affects your system. :zip:

Other than that, remember that the WEI is just a bench tool... on Windows 7, my Core i7 965 EE cpu only scores a 7.6 out of 7.9 and it's about the quickest thing out there... my ram hits 7.9, but I'm happier w/ my box with only 6gb in it now. When programs utilize more ram better, (and I QPI-no 'front side bus, basically), I'll have the other 6gb handy.:geek:

Good luck! Let me know what happens.

I know that OCZ memory at 8 gb (4X 2gb)will score 5.9 on Vista and 7.2 on Windows 7. Check my specs. These are my scores.

I personally don't see much I'd be concerned with looking at your specs, Bob. I'd be a little concerned with the timings, if it were mine... 5-3-3-11? Can you level them off at 4-4-4? Or even 5-5-5-11 is still plenty fast. I'm running at 8-8-8 and maxing out the 7.9 on Windows 7 with 6gb of Corsair Dominator DDR3.

What score ARE you getting?

Other than that, if it were mine, I'd just try leveling out the CAS timings and go from there... :geek:

I don't have any issues with my ram and my scores are 5.9 vista, 7.2 Win7. I was replying to Xen00b above and their issue with their ram. They were getting a lower score and I was pointing out that I have a much higher score with the same ram. Thanks for your concern however. Yes I could change my timings to level them out but my system is very stable currently and none of my research shows that there are any benefits to leveling them out, on the contrary I have found that the really critical numbers are x-x-3-11 and that the x-x is far less critical. If I am wrong please enlighten me and I will look into it. Thanks for your input.

I'm currently getting a 5.6 overall. 5.9 on everything but RAM.

I have 8GB of OCz Fatal1ty RAM (was on sale). I have adjusted the timings before to a stable 4-4-4-12. I tried to reset them to the regular settings and my score dropped to 5.4 because of RAM. I'm a bit confused. I've used Memtest but it reads them as being fine.

I don't understand :S

Just made a new system. Has AMD Phenom II X940, 8 Gig DDR2 1066 Crucial XMS2 Ram, Asus M4N78 Deluxe Mobo, 2 X ATI 4870 1Gig Vid Cards running Crossfire, LG Blu Ray reader, Lg 22X DVD Burner(both SATA), 6.5 Tb Sata 3.0Gb/s hard drives, Corsair 100 watt modular PSU, Acer 23" 1080p HDMI monitor, BenQ 19" DVI monitor, and (as an aside, Samsung 60" 1080p monitor, and a THX surround system). System maxes out on Vista windows experience @ 5.9, and on Windows 7 RC gets a 7.3. :)
