Here is mine; how can I get my score up. Is the graphics and gaming graphics the same. If I get a graphics card will both scores go up or just one of them.

Hi,

Better graphics card will up both scores - for Vista it's good to have something capable of Directx10 - I guess the at the less expensive end nvidia 8600 with 128mb but I would go for one with 512mb, which should get you above 4.5ish. I suspect you would need 8800 or 9800 series to get the 5.9 score - though these draw more power - not sure your 350w psu is up to it.

Your RAM score is surprisingly high for 3gb 667mhz - especially given your graphics card.

I did go up to a 750w PSU.

Hello Gunther, please I'm not trying to start an argument ... ;)
You just have me wondering!

The only difference I see between these two is ...

Yours ... Stream Processors: 112 8800GT

Mine ... Stream Processors: 64 9600GT

So you're telling me that one thing makes that much difference?

And I see mine is cheaper ... :p I wish I got it for that!

I really do just want to know ... :) please elaborate!

PS: I don't 'game' so it does more than I need.

Thanks Gunther!

8800GT destroys the 9600GT performance wise. I've seen A LOT of 8800GTs for $99.99 recently as well, I'd recommend picking one up if you can find it.

Yeah, I heard the 8800 was a lot better that the 9600, that's why I didn't suggest the 9600 to the OP.

Sorry Ted.

Mind you , I have "only" got the 8600GT 512mb - I am not a gamer, so it's way more capable than I need. It gets WEI of 4.6 - since microsoft says 4 is good, 4.6 must be very good. Buying another would be kind of a waste, just to chase the 5.9 score - still at $99.99 you couldn't blame anyone for doing it.

the 8800 might destroy the 9600 in gaming and benchmarks, but if you're not a gamer, and are somewhat conscious of powerusage....then the 9600 is an amazing choice.
The 8800 sucks a heck of a lot more power than the 9600 does.

By the way, the 8800 isn't even THAT much more powerful than the 9600....

The 8800GT can throw a lot more out than what the 9600GT, though the 9600GT has got potential. I've seen benchmarks over at the SLI Zone forums of someone benchmarking two 8800 Ultras and two overclocked 9600GTs both in SLI, and the 9600GTs were just 2000 3dmark points behind the Ultras.

I went to the NV site and plugged in his 350W PSU, the two that stood out as an upgrade that I compared was the 8600GTS, and the 9500GT, ( these were the two highest end in the 8 and 9 series that they suggested..the 8800 wasnt available for a 350W PSU ) the 8600 was the better performer for graphics...I'll attach the comparison from NV, and the cards offered for a 350W PSU from NV

PS, to my surprise, just for kicks I compared the 9800GX2, and the GTX 260, ( they didnt list the 280 with the highest setting on the PSU meter set to 500+ ) The 9800GX2 was impressive. ( guessing this should be bumped to video cards..sorry all...)

Bare Foot,

There's really no comparison between the 8800GT and the 9600GT. We can blame this on nVidia's naming, but the truth remains, the 88 is a high end card, and the 96GT is a mid-range/budget card. The 8800GT performs about as well as the 8800GTX, with less power, less heat and a lower profile in the rig... that's about the gist of it.

Hi,

Fumz, what do reckon about the 9800 vs. the 8800 series ?

Hi Malkman, Microsoft say WEI score of 4 is good, and 5 is excellent . Seems to me we can get too hung up chasing the elusive 5.9 across the board.
