Same for me when I went back to BT, the ISP I was with before I used to pay £22.98 a month for unlimited and my speed was 0.50Mb/s download but going back to BT Total Broadband Option 3, which is the unlimited I now get a download speed of just under 4 Mb/s for just over £23, and it includes a hub phone which is free to use evenings and weekends.;)

I used to be on the ANCIENT BT Option 4; it cost me £30/Month for Only 40GB with only 1.84Mb/s download speed (in fact the reason I changed to option 3 was because I was no longer being charges for my broadband because the terms had expired!!!) but now, much the same as Joan above, I pay £23 for an unlimited amount of data and I also got the free Home Hub (which if anyone has any ideas on how to get it running as a printer server please PM me, I've tried it's not working :( ) and my free VOIP Hub Phone which i adore for its free Weekend and Evening calls. In fact I now get 5.72Mb/s since they restrung the broken telephone wires to my house after the snow. :D

I don't have the unlimited call plan and use my Hub Phone a lot but have found its VOIP capabilities exceedingly useful when out of the country. Using BT's softphone app (or when i was on my Mac a SIP client I found on the internet) I was able to call my friends back home for virtually nothing because of the free WiFi available. They didn't even realise I was abroad.

Yes I can see it would be very useful for you in that regard but me I don't go anywhere so have no need of it for that purpose.

Another reason why I don't have the BT Fon active on my hub we don't own a laptop and you can't carry a desktop around with you, plus I'm wired to the hub because I'm the one in charge of it and the only other machine in the house is in the next room and that uses wireless to connect only because we haven't got around to putting a hole in the wall to feed the Ethernet cable through :D

it really depends on your location......

some parts of the country, internet is faster, and in some other parts of the country its slower.

and also, the less people using ur ISP the faster your internet will be, as the ISP servers wont get too much load.

and make sure to use speedtest.net as that FIOS one seems to be fishy if you know what i mean (they dont want to give their customers a bad impression on the internet IF their internet is crappy).
