Hotmail hasn~t helped me,a nd Im in a foreign country.

Ok, I thought the solution to this would be rather clear - Change your password.

Install some AV software and do a scan.

I've been using Kaspersky for 3 years now, I haven't had any issues regarding security since. I'm currently checking out ESET on my other rig. It installs a Soft Firewall that tends to conflict with Marvel NIC drivers. That is nearly impossible to remove, even in safe-mode.
I would go Kaspersky, It Works!!!

Obviously not clear to him and incorrect. Changing password doesn't get rid of a virus, How do you know he hasn't got AV, You didn't ask, nor did you respond. He asked for help. I understood the idea of this particular thread was to provide help. Neverhavemoney got plenty when he had a problem. Short memories and full of hot air. I'll point out to you Neverhavemoney's original post

"I know no one (unless you have gone to college for computer security) is an expert with security. That doesnt mean that other people dont know a lot about security. I am going to be starting a group of security people. We are not trying to have anyone be above anyone else or try to talk down to less computer educated people. We just want everyone to get the MAXIMUM PROTECTION HELP they can. We will be discussing the latest and best software, the highest risk threats out there, some of the best ways to protect yourself, and how to do a few things to your computer to help protect yourself. I will be making a list at the top of this post on who is offically in the Security Team Task Force(sounds very korny and childish but it is true so...) so everyone can ask us questions. If you have a little problem, you can just post in the System Security Forum as a normal post. If it is urgent of you have a serious problem you can either send anyone of the approved members a private message or post a comment in the blog here. Again, our only purpose is to help everyone reach there maximum protection against all of the "non-friendly" computer people out there. "

and ask what happened to those good intentions. All I've been seeing is a lot of waffle about hacking. Hacking is NOT security, rather the reverse.

G'Day wlevyma,

First of all, welcome to the Forums, and be confident that there are members here who are willing to help.

Secondly, I'd like to suggest that you read and take notice of whatever Norm Cameron writes. He's right up there in this field. If you have any other things that are giving you grief, do not be afraid to post again. Also try to add as much as you can to your 'My System Specs' information panel, that assists anyone trying to help you.

If you don't understand the paths you should follow to rid your system of this mess, then just ask again for clearer and simpler information.

Well if he had an anti-virus he would most likely not have a problem and changing the password and not logging in would stop the virus sending emails.

Also, he did not ask in the security team thread.
I also didnt even see the post until you pointed it out and I would have helped.

Did you install some AV software?

Check out Avira or Avast for free options or NOD32 if you are willing to pay.

Well I went with AVG Internet Security again this year and I think after the 25% off as I am a repeat costomer the cost is $39.99 USD. It seems to work well for me, has a firewall and a host of goodies. I also like the updates I receive every four hours, I have had 3 so far today. I can't tell you there the best or that this is the one for you. But I will say AVG is on more than 80 million computers. Now to the issue of ignoring posts or making statements that might hurt someone let us remember what we are here for, TO HELP ONE ANOTHER. Hey I am thankful for each of you, heaven knows I need you help. Thank you for being on the team.

Hey guys,
I just took Macafee off of my grand-mothers computer and put Avast on there. Wow what a different. To navigate to this site from google on her computer, it took 6:32. I did 10 tests before. After i removed it, ran wise registry cleaner, restarted, installed avast, restarted again, then went to this site from google, it took 39 seconds. 10 trials again. I do believe, and have proof, that Macafee slows your computer down.

I used to have what Road Runner gave away free to everyone that subscribed. "CA" which was horrible, not even worth it for free.
Thankfully "CA" has no version for Vista 64 so I went in search of what was rated as the "best" anti virus that also was not some hog like I know Norton and Macafee are.

NOD32 came in #1 in every category.

Best at catching and removing viruses
Best at being the least obtrusive
and on top of that was also the cheapest.

I only paid $24.

So far I totally agree with all the reviews I have seen.
It works flawlessly, it is so small I don't even know its there and it does not slow down my machine AT ALL not even 1 second.

Hi all,

I have tried McAfee, Norton....both of them sucks...i know for sure we had virus problems on our company computers where we had McAfee Enterprise 8.5i installed. It still cannot detect some viruses. Norton 2008 was slow man.....

I have installed Kaspersky Internet security 2009 on my comp.. works very well and cleans viruses i get from my company computer!!!

Although some people say and i agree to it that, the best antivirus is "not inside the computer but is in between the keyboard and the chair in front of it !!!"
No antivirus can guarantee you 100% protection so, even we the users have to be careful about our surfing habits.

Cheers

Geo

Post a reply with what you think or if you want anymore information about any of the 10 software AV products!

Avast should be on the top of that particular list

Norton doesn't even belong on the list. It has a good detection rate, but will slow everything down and has a bad habit of causing system hangs on shutdown, as well as unknown o\s errors.

McAfee will trash your system and disable any competitor spyware you might install in parallel.

AVG has a fair detection rate but has been getting a bad rep lately for removing system files.

I am not sure that Maximum -PC is the best judge of AV software, based on the list they presented.

This chart of comparative AV software might help to put things into perspective
http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/ergebnisse_2008_11.php

Avira, Avast, G-Data and ESET are among the better programs

EDIT :-I believe the comparatives link comes up with a 404 error (Thanks Sassafalco) here is the main article with the PHP link in it
