I never used Internet Explorer eversince... the first release of Mozilla Firefox. I don't care if the website doesn't support Firefox, I hate IE.

I still use Firefox 3.6.3 but now I'm getting into SRWare Iron. The speed is addictive. Plus I find the search right in the address bar very handy.

As of now I'm using Firefox for stuff Iron won't do yet(or that I haven't found an extension to do yet) such as login automatically when you have multiple accounts on the same site.

Still looking for a way to sync bookmarks and passwords without using a google account. I have an ftp site so I'd like to use it. Also would be good to cross sync Firefox <=> Iron as I use them.

I was running Firefox portable out of a Ramdisk because Firefox doesn't like to load off the HD when it's a bit busy. I dumped all that kludge!! Iron jumps up when you click the icon.

Sure it uses multiple processes, but that's what a multicore is for!!

So far the only download accelerator I've found that will work with Iron is Internet Download Accelerator. Shows ads in the download dialog, not as fast as GigaGet but it will follow redirection to download from AfterDawn(where dragging the download link to a drop box won't even work with other managers.)

It has the annoying feature of creating a blank page to tell you it's downloading.
But whadda' ya' gonna' do?

Oh, and it works with Firefox too. You just have to ininstall the toolbar and plugin that it sticks in there.

Also it does make silly noises but at least you can turn sounds off.

edit: I pulled this off and went with Free Download Manager. I have to drag links to the drop box, but sometimes bandwidth is twice what it is with IDA.

The only reason I haven't and won't use Chrome is because of the Privacy issues, and we all know how google is. I tried Iron before I reformatted recently, and it was blazing fast. My only question is, is it completely cut off from google?
I know it is supposed to be, but I'd like to know for sure before I use it as my backup browser(to Opera). I hate Google with a passion, always have, and their "file keeping" on everything everyone does is a tad unsettling to me.

I loved Iron for the few days I used it, but I want to know it's more private than chrome before I use it again.

I don't know how you'd verify it. This is probably the first place to ask though:
SRWare.net • Forum anzeigen - SRWare Iron Support (English)

Someone made a good point about "private browsing" that unless you are using some "secure" name servers, every time you fetch an IP address for a name using your ISP name server, well, they know what you are looking up!

edit: I do know what you mean about the tracking though. Supposedly Iron is derived from Chromium open source. But I haven't looked through the source code myself. One figures some hacker out there would and if these "googlisms" weren't removed, would be crowing about it on some blog somewhere.
