Thanks Lorien. I will try the bata 9 IE. I have always used IE and has worked just fine until V7 and V8.

Thanks again Lorien for your reply. jrM...

I answered the question in terms of what I use and prefer (and why). But based on your response, I feel compelled to add a few words of caution.

First, this is still a beta product. Many here do not recommend beta products except for people who are very advanced or professionals who can handle problems that might occur (and I've heard of some - actually, quite a few). I tend to agree with that because problems can be complex and require advanced techniques to resolve (sometimes just to get back to where it was before, but usually finding a way to complete the installation).

Second, although my installation was perfect (and I know others where that was also the case), I know of several others here (some quite skilled) who had serious problems - in one case, it hosed the registry and had he not been prepared it might have been catastrophic - but he's very good and was able to resolve the problems and eventually install it (though he uses Firefox as his primary browser anyway).

Third, there are very experienced and capable members here who will simply not install a beta product period because they don't want to deal with the potential problems (and the risk of having them is much greater while it is still a beta). Some won't even install first releases and wait until the second or the first major update before installing the product.

In short, remember it is a beta product and you should consider that and your computer skills before installing it. If all goes well, I think you'll be quite pleased with the new version (as I am) - but I just want to make sure you understand the risks before you decide to do this.

Good luck!

Thanks again Lorien for you recommendations and warnings. The time I have to dedicate to the computer is, at best, limited and I don't have time for closing and re-booting. What I have works so I may just wait until the completed version.

Once again Thanks and I hope I can return a helpful post in the near future.

Agreed. I've tried beta's of all kinds of things, from new programs to browsers. I've never used my pc's for anything important, like banking or anything with highly personal info. Recently i've tried both FF4 and IE9 beta's, and while they both worked great, I didin't keep them. After playing with them for a while, I uninstalled and decided to wait until the final versions are released.
The one advantage I have now is that my newer laptop is my main pc now, while my desktop(with Vista) is kinda like just an extra PC. It's components are pretty old, and reformatting doesn't bother me at all(retail Vista, home built PC). I now have the bit of freedom to use that as kind of a "testing" pc without having to worry about anything. If it gets seriously messed up....oh well, that's why I still have it.
It just makes me feel better knowing I can do that without really losing anything, since I rarely use it anyway.

Anyway....I really like both the FF and IE beta's, so i'm really eager to find out what the final versions are like.

I re-installed IE-8 and I still get the same error when I go to close it out. "IE has stopped working, etc", so back to Firefox. I don't know what it will take to make it work?.....

IE8. Get on with it just fine but curious about Firefox as it’s rated high in the poll here. But since I’m just getting used to Vista I hesitate to invite any problems I might have adjusting to Firefox.

I have used Mozilla Firefox off and on since the beginning of Windows 2000 and have never had and problems. I have always had the small annoying problems with IE. You would think that the company that designed and wrote and the OS could get the browser online with no problems???

I have Firefox configured similar to IE. There are very little differences. There are more options with the newer version. Very stable to say the least. It is a program you would have no problems with.

Once you are accustom to Firefox you will like it.

My Computer

I have the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer installed, but almost exclusively use IE. At the moment, I am using IE9 Beta and I love it and consider it a giant step over IE8 (however I do not generally recommend beta products except to professionals or people who are very experienced and know what they're doing and are willing to endure a few bugs that may still exist - though I've found very few of them once you get past the big one at installation). I have the others for backups and testing and to answer questions in the forums. I've set them up so they look as close to IE as I can get them - but for me, that still isn't enough. I'm a die-hard IE fan with no plans to change anytime soon (or ever at all at the moment).

That said, there are many here who prefer Firefox and even a few who prefer Chrome, but I believe most use some version of IE. There are some that even use some of the more esoteric products, but not many and I would at least stick with one of the "big three" which most web sites at least consider during design. I believe that in time, you could get used to any of them and maybe even grow to like any of them over the others - however, I believe the "big" choice boils down to IE or Firefox, and I believe it is a matter of personal preference as opposed to one beats out the other significantly. Even if I didn't need both for my work, I'd probably still have both installed and configured at the very least for backup and testing.

I'm planning on giving IE9 all the chance in the world to be my 2nd browser. I liked the beta, and the RC was just fine also.

Still curious about FF, when the final finally comes, if the reviews aren't too bad, I may try that too.

For now, Opera is still my baby.

Will try IE 9 on laptop when available.

Just installed IE9 on laptop and everything went as planned.
Rich said to download 32bit version as it was faster but when I tried it wouldn't let me as I am running Win 7 64 Bit.
No big deal anyway as I been on the fast track for most of my 67 years. Time to slow down and smell the roses.

If you have 64 bit you cannot download 32, I misspoke
You need to unpin the 64 from task bar
Then go to search and type internet exploer
Your will see two, Pin the 32 bit to taskbar.
