May i please have a link to Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit preferly service pack 2?
currently in ubuntu and tried a method which required some windows executable programs something that linux is limited to.

Hi Peter. I wonder if you could help me.

Could you please post a link for the Vista Home premium 32 bit with SP2 Installed.

I am trying to restore the system files of a working but corrupted laptop that belongs to a member of the family.
A full restore by the Compaq hard drive would wipe out all the installed programs and the discs for some of them have been lost.

I have tried the ISO from the "GET INTO PC" website but it has a file installed that automatically installs windows.
I think it is used for unattended installations.

Another ISO was from heidoc.net but they only include SP1 (for anyone that's interested).

Anyway after following as many websites as possible, and trying to carry out an upgrade, it looks like a full instal is the only way to go unless your ISO can help.

Just burned the ISO file from the link you sent and upon trying to boot from the dvd, it says "missing BOOTMGR".....????

Either bad media or a bad burn. Use IMGBurn at default settings, don't use MAX speed for the burn and use good quality DVD media. Also double check that the BIOS is set to boot from DVD drive 1st and hard drive 2nd.

I'm using Memorex dvd media, and i did use imgburn at default settings, but I didn't change the MAX burn setting...what do u recommend I should set the burn speed at? And I also have the dvd drive set to 1st boot.

Memorex is not the best media so I am told. Better to use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. IMGBurn forums might be a better guide there. My guide is usually to halve whatever the max speed is given by the DVD maker, however now that I check I see my IMGBurn is set to auto for the speed. So maybe you could ignore that.

Yeah I got it to boot with another burn but now it's saying that it cannot find the "install.wim" file. just like all the other times i tried. I'm at a loss here.

Ok. So i did some more research into this issue, and I found a post where someone had said they tried a different DVD-ROM drive and had success. SO....I have this external DVD drive and plugged it up, and lo and behold, its working! (So far, fingers crossed). I've gotten farther on this installation than other previous attempts. So, hope this works!!

I have no idea, sorry. Dozens of people before you have succeeded with these disk images and out of all those this is only the second time anyone has had difficulties. I feel that it's your media quality that maybe the problem.

Sometimes a drive wont burn properly if its firmware is lagging behind so also check the manufacturer's website for firmware updates and utilities.

I tried using another DVD drive (an external) to install the burned image of Vista, and it worked! Its up and running as we speak. Just intalling the drivers back onto the computer and putting the backup files back on as well. Thanks so much for your help and the ISO file as well!
