Thank you Peter for the link, it worked like a charm. My old system is purring like a kitten. I've one last question please, and apologies if you've answered this a million times before. I had to remove PowerShell in order to re-install Windows Vista. Should I re-install it now or leave it off? Your help is very much appreciated.

You're very welcome. I have noi idea about Powershell except the online description:

Windows PowerShell is an extendible command shell and scripting language which can be used to manage/administer server environments like Windows Server, Exchange and also SharePoint 2010.

I remember installing it once years ago and immediately uninstalling it again as it was too mystifying for me I'm afraid. The section dealing with it appears to have been archived so not sure if asking around in another section here may help with that.
I would start a new thread asking about that here: General Discussion
It's up to you, the KB article for the latest version (I think) already several years old is here: Windows Management Framework Core package (Windows PowerShell 2.0 and WinRM 2.0)

Note that they only include SP1 so you would still have to download and install SP2. For slipstreaming SP2 into a Vista SP1 disc see here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/230249-sliptream-vista-sp2.html

I have put a copy of my Retail Vista disc on dropbox
It has all versions but you can only use the version that you have a key for.
It does not have any service packs on

PM's are only allowed after a certain number of posts have been made so if you post your email address, - disguised as in abc AT xyz DOT com I will email a download to the ISO that includes SP2. After you receive it come back and edit out your email address. Simple as that.

You can come back and edit it out after Peter sends you the email with the link to download his ISOs from.

I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit OEM. I want to get a total of 8gb of memory so need the 64 bit version.

Is it possible to use my registration key on the 64 bit version?

I think it can be done provided you stick with the same machine as per OEM regulations and, of course, provided the machine is capable of carrying a 64-bit system.

You would most likely have to activate over the phone but usually that is quite simple.
I can provide an ISO of the 64-bit Vista with SP2 but you would have to post your email address disguised as in abc AT xyz DOT com
You can come back afterwards and edit it out of your message.
