updated laptop hdd problems?

it was 4 at a time. did not think that was to many but ill try to bear that in mind in future.

however windowes update states they all installed sucsessfully?

also do you think that could be my problem then to do with updates?


forgot to mention it froze after check dsk had completed also so three frezes in last 24 hrs 2 after windows updates restarts. 1 after ch dsk restarts

If you only did four at a time, that should not be the problem. Dont know about chkdsk as you passed all tests.

its only been happening sinc that first batch of updates last night should i try uninstalling them or something?

What you may have to do is perform a system restore to uninstall them and then just put in 2 at a time, so you can find the cause and then dont install that one.

ok but whenever i seem to do a system restore it fails but i can try. and when i find the one thats doing it restore again to before that one and carry on is that right?

You are having a few too many little problems, lets go with that SFC again, if you can.

so dont try the restore point first to undo the updates. or do i try that first then sfc. or sfc first

by the way just thought id mention this is my dads laptop noot my desktop.

the laptop has only had these issues since last night.

Lets try the SFC, it tells us about any Vista corruption and tries to fix.

i only ask as its gone 3:00am where i am if its going to take a long time i may have to call it a day and pick up from this point tommorrow if you dont mind helping me again?

also on the sfc thing do i need to follow all steps or just a particular one? or all in sequence like a.b.c.d.e. in that order?

It takes about 15 minutes and its easy to do. Very few easy steps.

rich where i am using 2 computers i just made the mistake of running the comand thing on my pc not my laptop.? will that be ok it said it found something and needs to be restarted to finish do i have to go thru with it now? on this machine before i go through with it on the laptop ?
