Heve fun!
There's a few skins to choose from in the preferences menu. Just import you're library, then right click the track you want and sent to deck one or two and get mixing! Lol ;)

Not counting the songs that got automatically included with Vista and related software, my laptop "library" consists of about 12 songs and no videos. LOL! I don't use my PC for audio or video. My audio system is far, far superior and my huge TV and tape/DVD unit is much better than a laptop monitor (and both are on another floor of the house).

And I haven't had the time or inclination to tranfer my albums (yes, albums - LOL!) and CDs and tapes and only few DVDs to the PC (and to be honest, I don't really have the space and don't care to buy a bigger hard drive or another external drive just for this).

I'll listen to ilikefree's station or the local radio station or to those few songs I have transferred over if I'm in the mood. If I were just starting out, I'd almost certainly go this way - as I would CDs over albums if they existed back then (and would have considered it when selecting the size of my drives if thinking of using the laptop this way) - but at this stage it's too much effort and even with good quality peripherals, it would never match my main systems (and if I'm going to listen or watch, I prefer to do it on that much, much better equipment).

Yes, I could use it to construct mixes for those systems by connecting up the laptop, but we just don't party anywhere near as much as we used to and no matter how recent I make the mix, I'll change my mind or take requests while listening and choose something else (I'm a bit too impulsive and accommodating that way). Plus even though a laptop, I rarely run it off the battery (except when done merely to preserve the battery and not because I'm away from the adapter).

Plus I have Vista Business which doesn't come with all the audio/video bells and whistles of Home Premium or Ultimate (like Music Center) and chose at the time with that in mind - and yes, I know I could easily add free 3rd party products to get most if not all of those missing features if I really wanted but it just seems like it's too expensive (MUCH more drive space) and too much work (copying everything over - especially albums with all the scratches of being played hundreds of times and not always put back in the covers until later - and special equipment to do that - and then arranging them and creating special mixes) and just not worth it considering how much I use such things these days. When I'm working on the computer (like in the forums) I prefer silence in the background (though not always but nowhere near enough to justify this level of expense and effort).

But as I said, if I were starting fresh now (say I was still in my early or mid teens), I would certainly go this way and buy accordingly and copy as I acquired. It's certainly the way to go these days. When I hear about pac's collection, I'm in awe at the size of it - he's got as much as many stores.

Just installed this program called Mixxx, it's an open-source DJ program, looks really good, set it up so the main audio comes out the back of the pc, and so that I can plug in some headphones to preview the mix before I actually take it 'live' ;)

I was quite annoyed with Dell. The supplied motherboard did not come with recording capabilities. The back does not have a pink Microphone port, and the wire coming from the front has three pins plugged into space (ie the front Microphone port is a dud) I saw no mention of this on the Dell website when I buoght the computer, but then again I have never needed the Microphone, which is why I have never bought an extra sound card. [DEL]What about you, richc46? Does your XPS 420 come with a Microphone port?[/DEL]

^EDIT: Sorry, forgot that not everyone wants to go crawling around under the desk! Alright for me, but then again I am a part time gymnast and climber!

Ooohh, on my PC I have have a "headphone" and "microphone" ports, in quotes because I can channel whatever audio I want to both of them, so I can have 2 streams of audio, maybe three, playing at once, not that I'd want to do that lol. Have you tried looking on their forum to see is anyone else has the same problem?

That is interesting. Have never heard of that before (which is why I am quite frankly a non-hardware sort of person) I shall look into it.

I'm another one that doesn't use the computer to listen to music or watch stuff, I have a hard enough time keeping up with the forums I'm on to have time for that stuff plus if I want to watch things I'd much rather watch it on the TV than a little monitor. The same with music if I want to listen I'll use my stereo.;)

I LOVE YOU! << Well, in one sense at least! With a lot of fiddling, I have got it to work! A lot of fiddling. I feel sorry for anyone else who has an XPS 420. Dell do make it hard. Eventually, it required a driver update, some fiddling, and some tweaking. Have now spent this after noon tweaking some more, and have managed to plug my computer into my big amp, though my mixer board. So: Microphone > Audacity > Line OUT > Mixer board > Big Amp.

Finally!

It was probably all in the too-long manual, but who reads the manual? After all, it is only the manufacturers OPINION on how to put it together. Actually, it needed a driver update. Probably wasn't.

Another cold, rainy day, so that means another day of football.

Only a bit of drizzle down here, so I went outside and did some acrobatics. Was getting back into practice my double twisted one handed stage cartwheel.

A stage cartwheel is a proper one. Don't start side on, but start front on, both hands down at the same time, half a twist, cartwheel, another half twist, face where you started.

One hand is obvious :)

Double twisted means that you cross your single hand over, putting in an extra half twist. This start could also lead into a back flip, or a hand spring.

Before anyone asks, I am not very good, and that is not a very complicated move. I can do more complicated but not my much. I do a very odd sort of gymnastics in reality. I have my partner, and she does the amazing flips and contortions. I just hold her up. To make it more interesting, we are both climbers, and so we actually do it in mid air. It is quite difficult, as the harnesses and ropes get in the way if you are not careful. It it also quite a lot of weight though my harness when she is jumping on me or something like that in particular.

We do it for fun, and are certainly not performers, but we really enjoy it.

Any other gymnasts here?

Mmmmmm, no, but it sounds fabulous to be able to do that --- perfectly or not! Can I do it vicariously through you?

I really love it! I am just getting it really slick (my cartwheels) as I see my instructor next Saturday, and with a big padded hat with a rock solid neck brace, I try to perfect the "Arial". My partner, can of course do this already! She is amazing!

For those of you who don't know, an arial is a cartwheel so fast and with such a hard kick up, that ones hands never actually touch the ground.

Unfortunately, I could not find a very good video. Please note that there is a difference between gymnastics, and martial arts. Martial Arts generally are done at a faster pace, and rely on the speed. Have a look at Progression Four here:

Please note that I do not like this video, because the cork is a combined trick, and not a gymnastics move.

In the above, look at 1:22 for the "Arial".

I would watch it, but my internet sucks at the moment... 0.45mb download, when it's usually about 10mb-ish, tried rebooting the routers but still nothing lol. Looks like I won't be doing cams tonight...
Martial Arts is amazing, one of my mates used to do it, she was really good, you gotta have quick reactions for it though, something I lack unless I've had a couple of Red Bull's ;)

Keep it up guys, we'll have a party ready for you! ;)

Just saw this with the changes. Yes I have a port.

Thanks! So the new ones do at least!
