What the heck is a Mind Map? It sounds like something out of a Sci Fi movie.

A mind map is Like a Spider Diagram we aren't allowed to call it by that Because it can be Racist for some reason at my School

It is were you put your Thoughts and Information into certain Categorys

OK, let's pretend I'm 54 years old and never learned about Mind Maps or Spider Diagrams or whatever. I've looked at Richard's example and it looks like an organization chart to me. How is it used? How does it help? I mean, is it what we used to call a simple "Outline" for the document that will follow or is it for creating programs or is it supposed to be a generalized tool that can be used for both and perhaps many other things? What software tool do you use to create them? At least for me, I found outlines never helped and tended to create them after writing the document simply because they were required (and they were much easier to do after the document was written).

I use them when I need ideas, write the subject in the middle of a page, lets say computer, circle it, then draw arrows from in with the ideas, like hard drive, power supply, motherboard, processor, that kind of stuff...

Lorien, LOL, I guess we're in the same generation, cause that's exactly what I was going to say! Being a lawyer, and being in the corporate/finance world, that looks exactly like an organizational chart (or at the very least, a kind of expanded outline) to me too!

Unlike you though, I always found outlines and charts EXTREMELY helpful, because I, apparently, learn visually more easily than any other way. In school and later, when preparing my legal arguments, or business plans, or whatever, I found that visually mapping or outlining my main points was extremely helpful in getting me where I needed to go!

It is often recommended as revision notes. You put a title in the centre, radiate out sub titles. You then radiate out succinct points from each subtitle, and you have a quick and easy revision sheet. I hate them. I use lists, bullet points, sub titles, numbers. I did have to do one a few weeks back for History, but it was on Hitler, the SA, the SS, and the Nazi party. I won't share, even though it should not be a problem.

You can use some Software for it but you would usually draw it yourself

It helps for Revision of a Certain Subject or Module

You can use it for many Things It displays All the Information of a Certain Category

It is hard to explain

Well, the time has come! I made sure THIS was my 1000th post in these forums (and I only joined on 8/31/10)! Although it doesn't come with a badge (another few months for that), I'm still going to celebrate like a madman. I've been looking forward to this for quite some time.

Anyway, thanks to everyone here for helping me reach this point. I've learned much from many of you. I've made quite a few friends (more than just those listed as friends in my profile though those have a special meaning to me). Many of you have helped me when I got stuck or was stuggling - often without me even needing to request any help. Quite a few of you have given me encouragement and inspired me when I needed it (and sometimes completely out of the blue as a welcome surprise). All that just kept me posting away and now this milestone has been reached.

Just installed this program called Mixxx, it's an open-source DJ program, looks really good, set it up so the main audio comes out the back of the pc, and so that I can plug in some headphones to preview the mix before I actually take it 'live'

There's a few skins to choose from in the preferences menu. Just import you're library, then right click the track you want and sent to deck one or two and get mixing! Lol
