Yesterday I ended up back on my health insurance
Now I really, really ache.
I went bouldering yesterday. This is when one climbs a short distance above a big mat, with no rope.
Anyway, I was on a massive bouldering wall, reserved for those who take climbing seriously, so it is all quite difficult.
I was on the vertical (ie not overhanging side) with a total wall height of 5.5m. I was one move away from the top, so about 3.5m from foot to floor - quite a way to drop and shock every joint (mainly knees) in the legs, hour after hour, week after week, year after year; but that is another problem!
Anyway, the hold was very far out to the right. I could have slowly edged my way along, and grabbed this distant hold, but then I would have to pull up for the final hold.
This is inefficient. I am better off getting a small swing, which I can use to grab both holds one after the other, using less energy.
So I solidly placed my feet, and leapt out swiftly, but under control with both hands towards the hold. As planned, my feet followed, in a graceful "leap of faith!, as the non-technical would call it!
I missed the hold, and kept on sailing. Bashed my helmet on a flake. Smeared my whole body down the wall. Caught my stomach on a large hold, and this spun me. Was now lying flat, spinning, sliding down the wall, hitting holds, and eventually crashed to the floor a bit dazed from the hard helmet smack which had left my ears ringing, and bruised from the rest of the fall.
Great. I have done this move before, but yesterday I misjudged it. I sat out for a bit, and then climbing again! Unfortunately, I had a splitting head ache at this point, and eventually was dragged down to the hospital; but all was well!
lol. Still ache.
