Latest NVIDIA ForceWare Video Drivers

These fail to start code 43, same as before, but only in my main Vista. In my test Vista and my 2 Win 7's they install with no problem. I'm beginning to wonder if I should format and re install Vista as it would appear that my driver stack is fubar. (That's a direct quote from someone on the Nvidia forums!).

It's certainly sounding that way Peter, these drivers installed no problems for me, I'd probably just do an upgrade install, may help you more than you think, but you will need to create a slipstream vista disc to upgrade as you're on the latest service pack, Here's the tutorial http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/230249-sliptream-vista-sp2.html?ltr=S

Thanks but wouldn't that be the same effect as a repair install? I already tried that and all that achieved was loss of a few tweaks and the need to install lots of updates all over again.

I have the Vista SP2 disk.

Then I'd go ahead and re-install a fresh copy of vista, just remember to back up anything you want to keep

Yes I'm slowly preparing myself for the day of reckoning...LOL.

I've already backed up docs, pics etc. etc. just have to do my emails and one or two minor things, then I will start.

LOL, I'm trying to decide which day to start where I wont suddenly realize I need something off that machine, because all I'll have to use in the meanwhile will be my netbook which is a rather pathetic excuse for a computer, but does work I suppose, and my iPad, which despite all it's much vaunted features and the fact that I love it but wish they (McAfee) had given me a 64gb version instead of the 16gb one, falls down badly on many web pages because it doesn't support Flash. (I hate Apple like the plague, they charge twice as much for less).

The very last thing I'll do is print out a Belarc Advisor report so that I have a record of all the software that was on it and the licenses.

I've already backed up everything else.

I often find that my computer never gets switched on because I'm on my iPad all the time lol, however I know what you mean about flash, it's annoying when you go to a page and it says you cannot view the page as you need flash player installed, maybe apple will come to their senses and include it in the next update (not likely) lol

Nahh, they just prefer html5 compared to flash, and adobe and apple aren't getting on and haven't been since mac OSX lol
